All right that was easy enough. Now for a last question on this matter.
How will it affect my new Powerbook, if at all, if I were to work with it plugged in, via the ac adaptor that it comes with or the extra dc adaptor that you can get from the apple Webstore. (Like for use in an automobile)

after conditioning it, plugging it in whenever you want is ok. once its full ,the battery just sits idle, running the computer on mains power, but ready to take over if you unplug it.

battery capacity?

Do the newer 12" Powerbooks now use a higher-capacity battery than mine did (rev. B 1 GHz)?

I can't remember what the specs were on my battery, but I wonder if I buy a new replacement 50-watt-hour battery for my 12", if it would be slightly higher capacity than the one I've got now.

just spoke to apple - its going to take another week (approx) for my PB to arrive, there was a delay in china .. :

I couldn't help myself!

Dang! after I said I wouldn't check for at least a week I just checked my order status and it looks the same as it did yesterday.

"Open" Arrrgh!

How long does it usually take for an order to change from "open" to the next thing wich I gues would be "recieved"

It goes from "Open" to "Shipped" then comes the torment of checking the tracking number every 5 minutes so you know exactly where it is at. Mine should be delivered tommorow, but there is a major snowstorm coming, Oh the agony.

New PB's and Apple 30

Does anyone have any experience with a new 15 or 17 PB and an Apple 30 lcd?

pb schipped 2 luxemburg

i called my apple freinds again since i can't track my powerbook at the site, technical issu blabla, but the man on the phone told me it was in luxenburg right now, and that they aspect it thuesd ore wensday to be deliverd :D

Mine's Shipping!

I received an email saying my shipment was being delayed from 2/8 to 2/24 on Tuesday, then last night I received an email saying it was being shipped and would be delivered either today or tomorrow. I called FedEx and they said that when Apple prints out the shipping label, it automatically updates the FedEx site. That's why it says "Package information transmitted to FedEx", not an actual scanning record. That means FedEx has been informed to pickup the shipment, and it means I'll probably see some meaningful status later today after the shipment is scanned by one of their trucks.

How long does a typical order stay "open"? I ordered a 12'' PB SD about seven hours ago. Just antsy to get my new PB and get rid of my windows pc.

You're in for a treat.

:D You're in for a treat. I ordered my PB about 60 hours ago. Your order will remain open until your order can be filled AND shipped out. The date that is generally expected to happen can be found on that order status page.

So you'll be waiting for it to actually be shipped, at which time they will bill you as well.

I ordered my PB on 1/31/2005 with an expected shipment date of 2/8/2005. On 2/8/2005 the shipping date changed to 2/24/2005, then on 2/9/2005 I received an email saying my credit card had been billed and my expected delivery changed to 2/10/2005. Today FedEx said they had picked up the shipment from Apple here in Elk Grove (where their distribution center is). I expect to see it on the delivery truck in the morning. :p

Triple-tapping with new PB trackpad?

Hi gang,

I picked up a 15" PB w/SD tonight at the Apple Store in Orlando and it's great. I installed MouseZoom, which I learned about from you guys and boy does it solve the slow trackpad problem! One thing I can't figure out is how to triple-tap (or quadruple) using the trackpad to select a line of text, or a whole paragraph. I've checked the different settings, but nothing seems to work. It's only letting me double-click to select a word. The button does it fine though. Have I missed something? I first noticed this when I tried to triple-tap in the address bar in Safari. Thanks again for all your help and the great advice I get from this site!

Sincerely,

shuffle1

PS: Now, if I can only convince my wife this thing was $1200!

PPS: OK, it's working now. I think in all of my frantic clicking, I must have imagined it wasn't. "Falls down a well, eyes go crossed. Gets kicked by a mule, they go back to normal...I don't know."

Due to an unexpected supply delay, we are unable to ship the following item(s) by the date that you were originally quoted:

Z0B6, PBG4 15/1.67/SD/CTO
will now ship on or before 02/28/2005

Please note that product availability can change rapidly, and it is possible that your order may ship much sooner than we anticipate. You may even receive a shipment confirmation between the time we send this email and the time that you read it.

I woke up this morning to find this in my In-box.

I'm looking for something to throw.... arrrrgh! :(

It makes you wonder how this is possible?

I feel your pain. The above order by Dave Marsh is the exact order that I placed. And I had mine in at 7 am PST (I can't imagine that he got his in much earlier than I did). I got the same note this morning - delayed until 2/28. But, what can you do? I wish I was in Dave Marsh's shoes.

Bummer. :(

Maybe more?

I just called Apple. The lady on the other end was very cool about things. The only thing she said, is that it depends on where you are located, dictates what "warehouse" your PB is coming from. Some are doing better than others. Mine is being manufactured overseas, then has to come to Sacremento for finishing. She wasn't able to tell me exactly why it is being delayed, except for the fact that there might be another delay.

What's another 2 weeks when I have already waited 6 months??

Good luck to you all in getting yours in a timely manner!

weird. i bought a new 15" pb on 2/1 and got it on 2/8. i even tweaked it from the stock config to have 128mb vram and 1GB ram. yeah i know the G5 powerbook is "just around the corner" but the G5 = G4 + hype + faster clock. And the hype is the controlling term in my opinion. The reality is what really sets the G5 systems apart from the G4 systems is the faster bus. The chip itself isn't much of a net gain from the G4 other than you can clock it faster.

Plus the I/O subsystem is still vastly slower than the I/O system on the G4. This is substantied via some-guy-on-the-webs-benchmarks so take it FWIW.

The real problem with Apple's notebooks (and all notebooks for that matter) is the battery life. That is where there needs to be some huge improvements. The speeds are getting pretty decent but the battery life sucks donkey balls.

So I guess that's why I opted for the Rev. D PB vs. the PB/G5. Not that anybody really cares but there ya have it.

It's Here!

Well, my PowerBook arrived today and I spent most of the day reformatting, moving my data over from my old iBook, and tweaking everything to get it working right. Overall, I have to say I love the speed increase from my old 600MHz iBook. Oh, and all the new features are very cool too.

So far I've discovered only one defect. My right speaker (the one by the power button) doesn't work, so it'll be off to service on Monday. Other things I've noticed: the trackpad is much firmer than the one on my iBook, and I've noticed that there's occasionally a pause of the cursor when quitting applications, especially when the cursor is in the dock (I've noticed this pause is noticeably longer on the 17" PBs at work).

At this point I'd have to say I'm thrilled with my new PowerBook, and look forward to years of fun with it. :D

Well my powerbook 12'' SD says shipped on my order status page. It took about 36 hours before the status switched from open to shipped. It says open est. ship 2/15/2005 in light grey. Should I get my hope up about a Friday delivery next week? Im in the Twin Cities.

Late shipping suprising

The thing I dont understand is how I ordered my laptop around 330pm PST on the day they were released and got my by 10 am this monday whereas I have heard of people who actually ordered the book hours before me still getting pushed back on shipping or just now receiving them
