BTW I don't want to rip 1000 DVD's and CD's, so can I simply buy a mirror of your drives and save myself a couple of man years of ripping and Handbraking?

If it were legal, someone would be making a nice business out of doing that! Believe me, I have often wished for the same thing. I wonder if Apple will ever do for movies what they're doing for music with the iTunes Match service?

I mean this in good humour...

Ive had my Macbook Pro for 5 months now, I think I have used the optical drive once or twice... I think they have become obsolete, (not to everyone obviously, but to the majority of users) I would much prefer having a larger battery or a second SSD HD and just having an external optical drive. Thats just my opinion.

OWC (macsales.com) sells kits to swap out the mbp optical drive with an ssd drive. You can then put the optical in an external case (they sell that too).

I've been waiting for the new mac mini hoping it would make a good 'always on, headless, home server'. It seems to have gone in that direction, e.g. no optical drive, but it seems it's annoyed all those that wanted it to be a full powered mac. Anyone else thinking to use one like me?
