* Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are free on the Mac App Store for qualifying Mac computers purchased on or after October 1, 2013. OS X Mavericks required. Downloading apps requires an Apple ID.
** GarageBand is free on the Mac App Store for all compatible Mac computers with OS X Mavericks. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available with an in-app purchase. Downloading apps requires an Apple ID.

Just checked with Apple Suport: for those of us who placed an order on the Apple Store prior to Oct 1st but had their order shipped on Oct 1st or later: the "purchased on" date is the ship date, so in this example (which is mine) you would qualify.

So, if I purchased my new iMac online on 9/24, but it wasn't available at the Apple store till 10/04, I'm out of luck?

Well, think of it this way, you *ordered* your new iMac on 9/24, but the purchase (where Apple charges your card) didn't take place until just before the iMac shipped. Yeah, it is semantics, but in this strictest sense, you should be good to receive the free upgrades...

not cool as i got my mac book air on the last day of september. guess i will use the money set aside for mavericks to update to the new apps

So do I, I wonder how they will handle the comp. software, whether they will come up in the purchased section?

Or the other versions became more powerful?

That would of course be incredible. But when looking at all the available screenshots now, it doesn't seem to be the case. iWork on the Mac has so many settings and options, including in the menu bar, those could not make it to the iOS or web apps.

Bummer, I was hoping it'd be free across all platforms. The updates look awesome though, so I might have to drop $60...

Just realized that 10.9 Mavericks is required to install and run the new iWork suite. Kinda bummed about that.

They did the same thing with the change from MobileMe to iCloud (wasn't backward compatible with 10.6, had to upgrade to 10.7 Lion). I'm getting kinda tired of these all-or-nothing upgrades. Are these various applications REALLY that tied-in to each successive operating system? :(

i hate to be the one but i dont understand those icons, they arent flat at all

something like this would have made a lot more sense

e. g. iPhoto

Apple benefits from having as many users as possible on the latest OS, so of course they're going to require updating in order to use new programs/features. But really though, why wouldn't one upgrade to Mavericks? 10.9 doesn't seem to be taking away any features...

agree here. Was looking forward to these more than anything else. iWork was so outdated by now.

Not that I was really looking forward to that, but rMBPs and iPads are pretty much incremental, so next year things might heat up.
This year was definitely software's.

OS X is not flat (yet), why should they make the app icons flat?

Agree, I think the flattening of the icons will come when they flatten OS X. Im really happy with the new icons, they look nice and fresh.

So you will see the new iWork in the app store once you update?

OS X is not flat (yet), why should they make the app icons flat?

Since they flattened out the UI in iOS 7, would make sense to go consistent between the 2 OSes.

But anyways, I wonder if you have to pay to upgrade? I have iLife '11 & iWork '09. Also, when will they be available? Not seeing them yet. If immediately, probably just taking time to go through all the download servers.

So buying the new iPad will give me iWork and iLife dree on both iOS and OSX?

Doubtful. You'd get them for free for iOS and when you get new computer you'll get those versions

My questions is are these new apps or updates to the current. Cause if they are updates folks that already bought them won't be screwed. Something tells me they likely aren't

----------

People are asking because the wording says OR, which would mean that you get both versions.

Um no. Or means only one of a set is needed to Qualify. AND means both.

I have paid iWork via disk, and paid iOS iWork apps.

I'm assuming I can update the iOS ones on any devices that qualify, but what about the iWork?

I actually don't have it on my Mini because I got it 2 weeks after school started, and had to use Office for that (it was free). I just last month found my DVD drive so now I can install iWork....

That said, my old MBP still can't run Mavericks even though it is a C2D. Sigh.
