Have the DVD version of iLife and iWork. No updates to either on mavericks. Kinda poor show as so far I've always had the updates, but won't lose any sleep over it. Do i think the 'upgrades' are worth the ~£40? not for me from what I saw. Happy on the old versions until I get a new mac next year. iPad/iPhone are covered by my recent upgrade :)

**** I just bought a new iMac 2013. Why isn't it included in the bundle...

Edit : Just to clarify a few things, I have my iMac in front of me and it's $20 per app.

Any news about Pivot Tables ?

I just re-ought the Pages, will get Numbers and Keynote when I need them — I didn't really use them recently. Pages, on the other hand, I use now for my master thesis, so any updates are welcome ;)

For anyone who is in the "I got it on DVD" camp. I have emailed Apple support about the issue, will make sure I post what they respond here.

Thanks! I'm running out the door, I'm trying to find my disks - the boxed set is missing iWork. Which means on the fringe of my brain I have a memory of seeing them somewhere they shouldn't be.......

Somehow I doubt we will get an update for free. I'm not buying them though, hope to get a new Mac in the next 6 months so maybe then!

I am rather curious about this. I think it's great that Apple is embracing "free" software, but I really think they should just go all in on it and not tie it to new devices. All it's doing is leading to confusion and problems for people, which isn't what Apple generally goes for. I get the reasoning for it, but I think they'd be better served with iWork and iLife to just treat it like iOS and now Mac OS and just make it a free, basic update or download. Keep it simple and friendly.

After all, even people buying new devices have been royally confused by this as many of them dismissed the initial "download now" window that pops up, at which point they show up in the app store as paid apps unless you go to a specific place that's somewhat buried in the App Store, simply restarting doesn't work consistently.

Old customers: Meh. Pay us.
New customers: Here, have these just because you're so awesome.

Not such a feel-good strategy. It's not like I'm going to boycott over it or anything, but it does make me feel second-class when considering how many products and money I have tied up in Apple products at home and in my pockets.

Wait, so if I bought Pages and Numbers off the App Store early this year I won't be able to upgrade for free?

Seems to be free

But will it be a free update if you already have all of the ilife apps and iwork apps?

I just updated my iLife. I got it on DVD and in the store I went to Purchases and simply hit Install and I got the update downloaded and installed. I am not sure why it does not come up under updates.

Well dammit... I bought my 2013 iMac on 9/24/13... the day they were released.... no iWork love for me :(

EDIT: Well what do you know, I woke up this morning and had a notification that I had iWork apps to install from the app store, for FREE.

Did you activate it after Oct 1st? When did you actually get it and set it up?

From: http://www.apple.com/creativity-apps/mac/

* Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are free on the Mac App Store for qualifying Mac computers purchased on or after October 1, 2013. OS X Mavericks required. Downloading apps requires an Apple ID.
** GarageBand is free on the Mac App Store for all compatible Mac computers with OS X Mavericks. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available with an in-app purchase. Downloading apps requires an Apple ID.

I bought the newest iMac on 9/30 and I don't get it? COME ON!

I set it up on 9/24/13

Never had iWork before.

I'm not sure if it matters but when I installed Mavericks I formatted and did a fresh clean install. I did a similar thing when iWork on iOS became free, tricking the app store to think it was a new device.

BACKUP everything prior if you try it.

I actually went as far as to sign into my iTunes account on a new iPhone, but it still hasn't shown me that the iOS apps are free. Weird.

Maybe I have to actually activate the phone?

All,

If you have a friend that has the iWork 09 DVD (or can get the dmg from someone), you can install it with no serials or anything. Skip the registration and open pages and it will automatically say you have an update.

Sign in to the app store when it tells you and it will tie the free apps to your account and start downloading.

I have a 2011 MBP with pre-installed iLife '11 and I was able to get the new iPhoto and iMovie to show up in the Mac App Store by creating a new admin account and running software update.

I tried the method of logging out of the App Store, etc. but it didn't work. Now I have new apps :)
