Nice Apple, keep up the BS where you keep security updates from newer devices in order to force them to update to Anal Dye's Liquid Ass OS. No thanks, I'll just keep running my insecure OS on all my devices in order to avoid the Liquid Ass garbage you're forcing on people.
It isn’t “Liquid Ass”, its actually a pretty good design, but ok then. They aren’t forcing it on anyone, as clearly shown by the fact that you haven’t updated. And for the record, most of the effects of Liquid Glass can be turned off as of 26.4, including the transparency effects.

Your post comes off as awfully immature.

Nice. I know someone who’s still rocking an iPhone 11 Pro Max.
I might still be using my iPhone 11 if I hadn't smashed the screen a few weeks before the 17 came out!

I really like my sage green 17 though, although it's a pity I can't use my 11 as a backup.

Instead, I have to keep using my 6S. Downloading today's 15.8.7 update as I type.

Let's go ! Why people still buy android at this point if you get 13 years of software updates !?

The average user doesn't really care about software updates and usually views them as an annoyance.

Edit: 9 times out of 10 a non techie hands me their phone, there is a system update they are ignoring or actively putting off. The number one complaint I get from friends/family/colleagues is that their device is nagging them to update while they refuse to do so. Average users care about phone, battery, screen. If software updates were a deal breaker for non techie people then nobody would have bought android since android OEMs offering more than 2 years of software support is a relatively new thing.

This is great to hear. A company that is worth trillions and says it’s committed to doing good for people of all walks of life should be taking care of customers (or second hand customers) who are not able to afford upgrading to newer products. This is how they can do it.

Not really worthy of a reply, but get over it, eh? Liquid Glass is customizable to a wide degree to address your issues.

Good stuff, my old iPhone 8 still gets some use and it's cool knowing it's still in a semi-supported state. Hopefully this means it'll be a long time until iMessage and other services stop working. Don't even know how far back it still works at this point.

also I can't help but notice The tops of the XS/11 seem distorted/skewed in the image, looks funny

I can't even describe how I would feel if they released an "iPhone Classic", with whatever limitations were needed to fit in the chassis about the size of the iPhone 5s/SE.

I might faint.

I'd probably buy 2 straight away.

Yea, but then you'd be obligated to report on your next MedXPress for the AME. Could be a real fly in the ointment. I'd hold off on the purchase. 😉

You like it, others don’t. Okay then?

Apple is forcing people to iOS 26 if they need to stay secure on their current device. Kind of an obvious strategy.

The quoted post comes off as condescending.

I use my iPhone SE for game development (Unity Remote, it is handy not having to plug and unplug my regular phone), and it makes my iPhone 12 Mini look huge and clunky.

I would love an iPhone SE sized device with the screen covering most of the front, like the newer devices. Have a simple camera so the back stays flush, and keep everything else basic to keep the cost down. I just want something simple and small to keep me connected when away from my large screened Mac and iPad, not as a principle device. It doesn't need to keep up with the features of the larger devices, as the iPhone Minis did, because that puts them too close in price.

If you disable auto-download and auto-update, then Apple does not force to update/upgrade iOS, however, it is also a fact that those who decided to stay on iOS 17.x and iOS 18.x [if compatible with iOS 26.x] do not get any new updates and only has iOS 26.x as the option, so whether you like it or not, Apple forces its users to either buy the latest device or update/upgrade to the latest OS release.

Another thing, Apple should still provide iPSW file for those who want a full reinstall or restore/downgrade.

Yeah I was hoping the iPhone Air or even the 17e would get me close to that (knowing it would never be “all the way”). So I was both disappointed and unsurprised.

You and me both.
I left the Apple Store today saying to myself:

"If I needed to buy an iPhone today ... it would be another preowned 13 Mini".

I don't really enjoy any of the current phones.

I'm like literally the only person with an old phone. 1st gen SE naked and shattered but still going.
“No, no, no!
You’re not alone…”
- r.e.m.

Check my history… I’m right here with you! Updating my rose gold SE now!

Installing 15.8.7 on my Air 2 from 2014. 12 years!

And in other news... I just pulled the plug on a 1st gen Apple Time Capsule that's been running 24x7 since 2008 and backing up Macs at home. 18 years! It could've gone longer, but Apple is phasing out support for TM backups to Time Capsule Disks in 2027.

Apple stuff lasts.

Yep. I fully admit, tho, as I wrote in my mini review.. I wanted to like (love?) the Air. I actually was foreseeing it as my new device. I was willing to go for it. But the weirdo compromises and for the price point… I even dig hard through Accessibility settings and managed to turn off Liquid Glass (yes, folks, it can be done… you just gotta work for it). Even then, I couldn’t do it. Air 2, maybe, apple has to fix those weird corner-cuts they did. (Why does the base model have the better camera!?)

I’ll look over the 17e this weekend probably, but I’m not visualizing it as a replacement. I mostly want to see the MacBook Neo for my daughter. At 600 clams, I’m willing to just buy it and use the 14 day return window option.
