I just quickly ran NovaBench and here is the result. Quite improvement for a 7MB download. I'm hoping that others are seeing same improvements :)

This prompted me to re-run GeekBench - trial version, so only 32-bit - and it recorded 11,776 compared to 11,161 when I first got my rMBP (running Lion). Don't know what it was on 10.8.0 but at least it's moving in the right direction :D

I got a notification without having to check for updates or having App Store open. Nice surprise this morning, usually find out about these updates on MR first.

Are you running an admin account, or standard? I run standard day-to-day, which requires typing an admin password to check for updates, so I'm trying to figure out if I'll still get notifications or not.

I didn't have a battery life problem on my rMPB before this update at all, in fact I got over 9 hours at a full charge. Before I installed the update i was at a 98% charge and my battery life indicator read 9:03 remaining. After the update I was at a 97% charge and my indicator read 6:18 remaining.
Reset the SMC.

Ok, I am really confused now. I clicked on my about this Mac link and its says 10.8.1 is already installed. The only update I installed today was one from HP regarding my printer. Somehow I'm upgraded? I never had this happen before. VERY strange.

And when I run update it says no updates available. BTW it is downloading now, yet the icon for the dmg file is nowhere to be seen.

So they still haven't fixed the black screen after logging in problem that occasionally occurs if you don't have auto-login enabled and use a resolution other than 1440x900?

Flagged mailbox still stuck in place! Boo!

I HATE that the Flagged mailbox can no longer be hidden or moved. 10.8.1 doesn't fix this.

I don't want every damned message I've flagged stuck in my face all the time.

What moron decided it was good to take away the hide/move functionality Lion had?

Both are listed under "Software Update" as a single update. If you had clicked "show more," it would have shown you that it was installing both. You have 10.8.1.

no battery life improvement?

how's ML?

Is there cut and paste or still the old way of copying and then deleting the file?

Im waiting on a newer version of Total Finder, but I hope stock Finder gets cut and paste.

On 10.8.0 battery life [ fully charged ] showed 7:xx remaining ....

On 10.8.1 [ fully charged ] shows 5:50 remaining

What's running: Firefox with two tabs open ; Geektool ; Caffeine ; Gfx ; iStatPro
Brightness : two blocks short of full
keyboard light : two blocks on

There is! But it's kinda hidden and named differently. To use it, you copy the file you want to cut (stick with me), but when you're pasting, hold option. This will change "Paste" in the menus to "Move". cmd-opt-v also works for moving.

My guess as to why Apple does it this way is that cut and paste can be conceptually weird if, for example, you cut something, but then cut something else without pasting the first one. What happened to the first one? Is it back in its original location? Is it gone? Not rocket science, but you can see how it's a little strange. This way, you know the file hasn't moved until you tell it to "move". Of course, this has its own confusion, since you originally hit "copy" in order to "move", but oh well I guess.

Ok...why is there no icon showing the download progress of the full version? Should I just cancel it since I've updated? If I could see the icon, I'd save it on a USB stick for later.

Here in the uk i just hit the download for 10.8.1 in software update and it tells me i already have 10.8 installed - do i want to install it again ?

Then it proceeds to download a 4.something gigb file

Hmm

I stopped that

Edit....
Okay - if you wait an extra minute or two then a second mountain lion will paear in software update- this is the small updater not all of 10.8.1 - be patient people and all will be okay

It's the servers...The download should be 7.68MB..I've just done three Macs in the UK...Apple software update is slow..Only to be expected. Not much of an update really.

I just ran Software Update twice but 10.8.1 doesn't show up. I'm running Mountain Lion on an rMBP. Strange.

heard the update was about 24.xxMB mine was 7.xxMB - was so scared but then its good to see others having the same size of update:)

its one of the reasons am on this site and always watching it.

I wish Apple would release an update that stopped people from making a "its snappier' joke every ten posts.
