so my retina mbp still crashes after some use. this thing is the most unstable mac i've had. smh
Is it certain Apps that crash or random Apps/processes? Or the OS itself "panics" and reboots? If it's random Apps or the OS it might likely be a hardware issue. I haven't had any crashes on mine and I use it VERY heavily.

Same here, machine works great, zero system crashes.

Weird, after installing 10.8.4 my rMBP booted in non-HiDPI 800x600 resolution. Then after logging in, it switched to 1440x900 non-HiDPI. Of course I manually changed it back to "Best for Retina" and it's fine, but still f ***ed up my desktop icons. grrr. I guess I needed to clean up my desktop anyway.

Anyone else finding their dock refuses to dissapear now when watching youtube videos?

But your corporate IT shop should be able to make its Exchange server work with OS X, assuming it wants to, no?

True, but that's beyond my sphere of influence. And again: it works with iOS, why not with OSX ?

Well well well

This update fixed my Firewire800 connectivity to my OWC Mercury Elite AL-Pro. 10.83 would cause the second drive to not be reliably seen and most of the time simply not spin up. Under 10.84 it worked from the first boot and has worked ever since.

iCal...

In an Exchange environment still stinks. If I create an appointment, and have invites, and change the time, or day, it repeatedly sends invitations. So it will send one after the change, then it will send it again in a few hours, then again, and again...

I've given up, and just use my iPhone or iPad to create appointments when others are invited. Not sure why OSX can't use the same pieces as iOS? iOS works nearly flawlessly...yet OSX seems pieced together, and inconsistent.

iMessage bug

Hi.

Can anyone help me?

I just updated the software to 10.8.4, but I am having a problem with my iMessage. I keep getting "an internal messages error has occurred".

Try quitting Messages with Command-Option-Q then reopen if it still doesn't work then quit with Command-Option-Q and quit IMagent through activity monitor then it should work and you should be able to do everything normally (Including quitting)

Thanks! That saved it :)

Just installed, no difference on my 13" MBA 2011 so far.

But for me, 10.8.3 was flawless already. I feel sorry for all the people who don't like ML and would rather to stick with SL, but I think the majority are quite satisfied with Mountan Lion. Interestingly, I never had any of the issues mentioned above (save for iMessage).

The only bug I'm experiencing occasionally is that when I click "change desktop background" right from desktop, the settings windows doesn't pop up, I have to open it manually. Besides that, I can't really think of anything that behaves improperly. Yeah, the boot/shutdown time seems to be a little bit slower than it was with Lion, but that's no big deal for me, as I usually never reboot my machine. So from my side: "thumbs up for ML" It's a solid OS.

The whole "My Mac takes so long to shutdown" problem isn't a bug at all, it's a feature. Software that installs a file into "LaunchDaemons" or "LaunchAgents" is the likely culprit.

By default there is a 20-second delay on shutdown for all launch daemons/agents, and that is the cause.

In the "LaunchDaemons" and/or "LaunchAgents" folders inside /Library or ~/Library any file in there can cause the shutdown delay. It can be avoided if the developer of the offending software uses the parameter "ExitTimeOut 1" (not zero which is interpreted as infinity). That will force a one-second delay on shutdown of the offending background app instead of the default 20 seconds.

We experienced this slow shutdown/reboot issue where I work due to our own background software daemon in development, and the above was the cause and fix.

And as for OpenGL - Nvidia is hiring an OpenGL engineer for their Mac OS X Drivers software group in the Austin, TX area. Might be about supporting newer cards, adding newer features, or someone on the team recently left and needs to be replaced. Make of that what you will.

I checked and the default timeouts in Lion 10.7.5 are the same for these processes as in Mtn. Loin. Lion 10.7.5 shuts down almost instantly; M. Loin takes forever. There's definitely some other underlying cause(s). Also, shutdown was fine in 10.8.1. 10.8.2 is where the shutdown lag appeared. On a 3500 dollar SSD machine it bothered me so bad that I went back to 10.7.5. My computer is portable, connected to many devices, and has to be shut down and restarted often. The shutdown times with 10.8.X are just crazy inconvenient !

That being said, DOES EVERYONE AGREE THAT RESETTING THE TIMEOUTS SOLVES THE SHUTDOWN LAG in 10.8.X? If so, I'll install 10.8.4 on my machine. Otherwise, I'm hoping 10.9 will be better, but considering everything, I kind of doubt it.

I used this trick below, already solved in my 10.8.3. Upgraded to 10.8.4 still shutdown instantly. Hope this helps.

sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.securityd ExitTimeOut -int 2

sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.coreservices.appleid.authentication ExitTimeOut -int 2

sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder ExitTimeOut -int 2

sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.coreservices.appleevents ExitTimeOut -int 2

sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.diskarbitrationd ExitTimeOut -int 2

Thanks for that quick summary of the terminal commands!

Did the upgrade to 10.8.4 overwrite your timeout settings (i.e. did you have to enter them again?)

Thanks!

Subtracting the regular group of people complaining about the iniquity of the machine as per usual, I find this MacBook Pro with Retina to be a big improvement over the PowerBook G4 I am replacing. The G4 is still usable, but some websites bring it to its knees, not that it can't handle them - it just takes too long in the fast paced culture of today. I am impressed not only by the speed of the MBP, but the stability, responsiveness, graphics, sound, battery life, portability, weight, and nearly every other aspect that I can think of. Not to mention this machine is cheaper than what I paid for the PowerBook at the time? Honestly, I don't get what people are complaining about, but I am happy receiving a machine so much better for that much less.

If Apple didn't have the PC competition driving margins ridiculously low, I wonder how the quality of Apple hardware would be and how many people there would be complaining.

Sure, Paypal me $50, and you should receive your SSD in June 2019. You understand that I can only send information back in time, not solid objects. But it probably wouldn't have been compatible with your current system anyway.

My GODS! Ok I'll send you 50 bucks and some extra to get me the Sports Almanac ok? Oh and the lottery numbers too, and while you are at it, please get me:

• The complete Set of all three films of the Hobbit on Blu-Ray (cheap on sale)
• Star Trek 2, 3 and 4 on Blu-Ray also in 4K
• Stat Wars the new Trilogy (Eps 7-8-9)
• Interstellar
• Elysium
• Prometheus 2 ( need some comedy too you know ;)
• Surprise me with some cool film!

An iPad 8 and an iWatch 5!

Also, some shoes with auto laces, and a hover board! NAY make that two hover boards! I want to reverse engineer one of them so I might accidentally break one. :)

Some lists over amazingly rich companies not yet on the market so I can invest money into them!

I'll wire you $5000.... done... did you get it? :D

Done! I shouldn't really disturb the time stream, but you seem a nice enough guy.

I'll send you all those things, but they won't be new by the time you get them. I can send you the movies now in glorious 4K. It might take a while to download them via that primitive copper cable.

I also included the The Social Network 2: The Downfall Of Facebook, all seven seasons of Game of Thrones, and that Aquaman movie which was actually quite good.

My God I have struck gold!!! Not only did you future anticipate my wishes (Aquaman AND Game of Thrones! But you knew my hatred for Facebook and decided to let me enjoy the end before it happens!) Man you are a wizard! Are you?

I'm actually about to go out to buy two boxes of baked beans to send back in time with a guy called Jeb from 1813. We correspond through snail mail and he sends me confederate money which is funny but ultimately useless. So I asked him to go track down the family of John D. Rockefeller and start collecting dirt on them and start getting in on the deals they do. Once he did that he'll have to put a substantial amount of Gold in a Cave somewhere on the Cayman Islands for me to retrieve with tons of valuable information about the Rockefellers.

My plan is to get someone around 1980 to invest in Apple for me with the gold Jeb collects for me as he collects it from the Rockefellers... ;p

Man I have it all figured out... it's gonna be big! I'll go check my bank account tomorrow morning if my future self happened to have deposited something substantial... ;)

Have a groovy time in the future and I hope they fixed the copy paste issue in your Mac OS X 10.12... what is it called? IS it what I imagined? Mac OS X Walrus?

messages bug is not fixed at all. still randomly inserting NEW messages into random points in the history. i don't understand how when the time stamps are correct, it can't just perform a simple flippin' sort operation properly.
