Photos may be "faster" but...

...we upped our iCloud allowance to access a potload of Photos from all our Apple devices, and upload to Apple servers is slo-o-ow. Much slower than an FTP of the same pix to my website server. By leaps and bounds. So, the increased speed of Photos is moot.

Photos supports GPS in multiple ways.
1. Get info (Cmd+I) on a picture (or all the pictures you want), it will show the location info, if it exists.
2. In Photos mode (not Albums), only Years or Collections, click on the title of that year or collection. It shows you a map with all the pictures. This works the same as in iOS.

Is there no way to tag locations for existing pictures in Photos?

So Photos has added an extra 50GB worth of photos to my library...

Aperture - 370GB
Photos - 420GB

I'm guessing it's all thumbnails and stuff, no added images.

Does anything think theres anyway to fix this? I don't have the storage space on my Mac lol

Seems you're a fairly new Mac User, it has been in the Utility Folder for a long time in OS X.

Airport Utility was under the Utilities folder. Network Utility was under System/Library/CoreServices/Applications. At least on 10.9.5 it was already there.

Any way to access Faces albums from Photos OS X on Photos iOS? If yes, it doesn't seem obvious or very discoverable.

Late reply, but the Faces album appeared on my iPhone with the latest iTunes 12.1.2 update. Sync and have fun!

No Im afraid they haven't added this yet. :(

What wireless router are you using ? I found that upgrading my router to a newer one fixed my issue. For some folks switching channels also helped their issue as 2.4 GHz is usually very congested.

Have you posted on the Apple Forums ? I posted there and someone from Apple got in touch with me, just in case thats helpful.

When I was running the developer beta when it originally came out, the WiFi was unstable then. It gradually got worse and worse. The only way to fix it was to turn off bluetooth. With 10.10.3 - even turning off BT didn't help.

I skipped 10.6 and 10.7 but I am pretty sure it was still in the Utilities Folder until and including 10.8.

It changed precisely in Mavericks.

From the Apple support page:

Locating Network Utility

Use these steps to locate and open the Network Utility app on your computer.
Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion

In OS X Mountain Lion and earlier, Network Utility is located in the Utilities folder of the Applications folder.

From the Finder, choose Go > Utilities to go directly to the Utilities folder.

Mavericks

In OS X Mavericks, Network Utility is located in the Applications folder of the CoreServices folder (/System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/).

You can quickly access Network Utility by searching for it with Spotlight.

I'll probably hold off on trying to use Photos until I can do more reading, but if the main big feature is still iCloud I hope Apple grasps there are folks like me who will never put our photo libraries in iCloud.

I will say though, much like when I almost took the dive and bought Final Cut Pro, I'm certainly glad I never bit the bullet and bought Aperture. I came really close. Apple's bad reputation on professional software really seems to precede them at this point.

You are lucky, I change to other WIFI networks and it (was) is the same, I say was because up until I updated to 10.10.3 from the beta's I had WIFI issues.
It's buggy OS X 10.10.X, never had a problem before and I started of from the first OS X 10.0 beta.

All works well for me, need to get used to the app.

Although.....every photo I have which has a GPS location tag is showing as some unpronounceable place in Central Finland. Every one of them!

Anyone else getting this?

Well just updated and it killed iPhoto. I opened the photos app, it automatically imported my iPhoto library, and everything seems to be in the photos app now, but I can no longer open iPhoto, I get this error. It worked before the update. I mean Photos seems nice, but I would like the option to use iPhoto for a while until I'm sure I like Photos.

Did you read the text in that error message? The answer is right in front of you.

Has anyone noticed a improvement in memory use?

Nope. I still forget stuff.

Interesting. Just updated to new iTunes today and some of the "Featured Stations" on iTunes Radio Channels are unable to play. Anyone confirm?

I suppose I should have been clearer, I'm using the latest version of if 9.6, and it was working fine on Yosemite before the 10.10.3 update. Also clicking on search the app store does nothing, it just says "this item is not available in the us store."

I'm sorry I jumped the gun too. If iPhoto is no longer in the App Store, there is no way for you to update to the current version.

Quit iTunes and relaunch. That'll probably fix it.

Tried it. I even logged out and logged back in to my iTunes account. Restarted the Mac. Nothing. Strange, NPR, ESPN are the only Featured Stations that play. Must be Apple servers. I suppose it may clear itself up later today.

Okay that part I got wrong. I have been using Macs since 10.2 Tiger days so no I am not a new Mac user.

You can double-click the images and page through them, at least I can

Thanks for the reply. It did not work in my VM. I'll try on a real machine and see if it works better. That said I think the product is missing too many features to move back from Aperture. :(

Are we still able to have "hidden" pics in photos?

I see my hidden pics, and when I right-click on them I get the option to 'unhide' them. But why am I seeing them if they are hidden?!?!?

Full disclosure, I still see the 'hidden' pics in my iPhoto Events. I understand that they will be hidden from "Moments" "Collections" and "Years" - but I never use those on my MAC.

thanks,
michael.
