Just right-click the icon in Prefs. and choose the "Remove Preference Pane" option. It won't uninstall Flash, and you can access Flash settings from right-clicking a Flash object on a website.

I've found a way to change the icon if it really bothers you. (I changed mine).Tell me about it. I've been contemplating uninstalling Flash just to get rid of that damn icon in system preferences.

The LED is there since at least Mavericks.
