I know...It sucks!

Damn my MBP is early 2008 ... but I like updates! :(

I am wondering what the dev's at Apple have been up to in the last few months...This issue is quite common and spans across different Books' releases/years. Mine is a mid-2007 and has been doing this for years...Only with it being my first Mac after 10 yrs on Win, I had no idea it was NOT supposed to happen...You know, when you have a Win computer, your system is guaranteed to freeze and require a reboot...and do it on a regular basis...I was just happy to discover that the spinning ball didn't necessarily mean 'time to reboot system AND fix coffee'

BTW: I am not kidding!

question - when the beachballing occurs, does it sometimes get so bad that every app gets a beachball and finally you have to force reboot the computer? that happened to me twice after i finally used my new 2009 MBP for a full day the other day.

i have a corsair x256 drive and i'm trying to figure out if the drive is bad or if i'm just seeing this same problem. i just installed the patch...

just curious, what about those of us with mid 2008 iMac's. I am also getting the spinning beachball, but the update does not apply to my computer.
will they come out with another for the rest of us?
still, trying to learn my way around the mac, so sorry if this does not apply to this update issue.

regards

Don't worry, bug fixes will be rolling out for the next 4 to 6 months.

So far so good...

I installed this Monday and have yet to see the SBoD on my 13" MBP that I upgraded with a 320GB 7200RPM drive from WD. :)

Anyone noticing batter life seems lower now? I used to see over 2 hours off a fresh charge and now it says much less...

I'm getting a little less too.

After a 2.5h class, I usually go from ~98% to ~70% or ~68%

Today I went from 96% to 62% I think. Might have been my use, but I dimmed the screen way more then I usually do.

Bad News: My Hard drive still stalls

After updating my macbook pro with the new performance update, it stopped the stalls after installation, but after a couple of days I've been getting the beachball, today being the worst and ironically the Beachball just occurred when I was typing "Bad News: My Hard drive still stalls" in the title....this is driving me crazy, 10.6.2 better fix this problem.

The processor is pretty much limited by the hard drive, so my processor could be a 3ghz quad-core i7 and it would not matter...

I hope SSDs drop in price soon =\

works for me totally

Why is wanting things to work right whining? Happy?

had start up problems with the stop sign very often

start up if it did 2 mins.

beachball like mins all the time.

this one seem to have solve it.

problem started when i installed a thrid party seagate 500gb HD

it's a MBP 13 inch.

i'm happy.

So here is something interesting... since running the update, Safari wont play video content from hulu, NBC, CBS, ABC, crashes on various sites and locks up on others. This never happened before.

After being annoyed with constant beach balls on my MBP13", I installed this update and presto! no more beach balls!

Although I do feel as if battery life has decreased a bit.

Well its been good for me anyway. Before, VLC was practically unusable on my Late '08 MBP. Every few minutes, or if the computer was even moved slightly while playing a video the sudden motion detectors would go nuts, the HD would click, and video would freeze or skip for about 10-15 seconds. Completely gone.

I personally think one of the issues was that there are two motion sensors in these machines - one in the top case and one in the hard drive itself. When it detected movement, the sensors would conflict slightly causing a delay that was longer than it should be. Seems to be gone now. No discernible difference in battery life or anything for me. Haven't heard a single hard drive click since the update.

Thanks Apple :)

Skimming this thread gives me the impression half the people are thrilled with this little update and the other half is pissed because it actually caused problems or made things worse.

If I'm not having the mentioned issue at all, should I just avoid this particular update?

After seeing this thread I am inclined to stay away from it. :p

lol,

I took my Macbook Pro in the day this update was released because my mac was freezing every now and again. Well I got my mac back today and they replaced the logic board. How pointless :p

Worse!

Worse!!!

I have the Macbook pro 13 mid 2009
I used to get the spinning wheel that last for 3 to 5 sec
suddenly I got this update on my “software update”
but after the update, the freeze last for 30 to 40 sec!
the whole system freeze with only mouse pointer moves and the spinning wheel!
OK, the update delayed the freeze so its every 4 to 5h not like before every hour or less.. but now its creazy! almost a minute!
why don’t apple call the owners of those machines and replace the defect! even if the ask me to pay up to a 100$ I wont mind!

Fix for Safari hangs

It isn't beachbaling anymore but my logs still show this in just the time it came for me to come here and post.

Oct 14 20:27:54 skittles Safari[175]: INSERT-HANG-DETECTED: Tx time:4.587113, # of Inserts: 23, # of bytes written: 197066, Did shrink: NO

Quit Safari and then:
rm ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db

Actually, it is relevant since Apple never fixed the underlying hardware problem with the computer, therefore while OS X runs fine since the fix Windows and Linux in boot camp are still unusable
