This thing totally borked my M1 Max Studio... can only boot into safe mode... regular boot just hangs... what a piece of crap... after 13 years on macOS, I may have to return to Windows... So much for "it's Apple. It just works".
Go to system settings, then general, then about. You should be able to remove it from there.

I guess if your doctor prescribed "small white pills" and "oval yellow pills", you'd have no issue taking them and wouldn't ask what they were, because, you think your doctor would prescribe something bad for you? It's human nature to want to know. The fact Apple keeps everything so in the dark all the time seems like they always have something to hide.
Yes I agree they should expand on what is in the actual update, but unfortunately almost every company does this now and it’s annoying. And no, I would be far more concerned with what’s going into my body than what’s going into my phone, but I get your point.

Always have a backup handy just in case. I don’t install macOS or Windows updates without backing up first. There was a Windows update a while back that wiped people’s entire hard drives. Horrific things happen so you gotta be prepared.

This worked for me on my iPhone and iPad, I applaud Apple for taking this big step in security!

Wish they would release press releases with security updates to fully describe what the emergency is. Important for the public to read the threats out there.

Obviously this was a hard fail, but Apple's intentions are good with providing faster security protection.

Hopefully Apple learned and and corrected the issues for future releases.

I tried this again a few minutes ago. (I had the "internet" error yesterday, like many). Quick update...phone restarted and all is well I assume.

*STILL waiting for this to install on my old iPad Pro 2015 however, it's been saying "Preparing Security Response" for almost 10 minutes. 😐

Yeah, I have backups... and was able to recover, but was really annoyed that Apple pushes this stuff out, borks our computers and then we have to deal with the mess... THANKFULLY, as @Lounge vibes 05 pointed out, with Ventura, rolling back a system update is reasonably simple.

That’s not what I said, if Apple were to have released an actual update, it would’ve not been as easy to go back.
But these rapid security responses are able to be installed and removed on the fly with nothing but a simple restart, so… yes.
Happy it worked out for you.
Maybe this will lead to Apple being more flexible with software downgrade’s in the future but I highly doubt it.

 !!!! Now I understand why my iPhone's "System Services" used all my prepaid data allowance in one hour!

Even though I have Automatic Updates switched OFF in Settings > General > Software Update, System Services sucked down hundreds of MB of data over my prepaid cellular plan on Sunday afternoon.

I have my iPhone (a SE2 running iOS 16.4.1) configured to NOT use cellular data for updates, but Apple ignored that setting and used up my 30-day cellular data allotment. I could see that in the sudden high volume of traffic under Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data > System Services.

That cost me €7.50! Thanks Apple, you really blew it, again!!!

Well, FWIW, this update seems to have fixed my weather widget bug, frequently gleefully showing “-12°C” every morning before yesterday. All of a sudden this morning it jumped to the real temperature, hooray! 👍

This is EXACTLY why Apple SHOULDVE continued with their own server business and expanded exponentially since the Xserve/Xserve RAID days.

Relying on an external host not only leads to bandwidth issues yet also possibly tampering with the code.

It depends, as we do not seem to have so many outages with Amazon or Google services/servers.

I somehow doubt they sent out a rapid response to fix the weather widget 🤣
