Bah, they didn't fix the annoying UI bug that makes the "X" disappear on the miniplayer so you can't restore it to the normal player without resizing it. :p

Yep, I thought this was only happening to me! Annoying! It's happening with iTunes on Windows 10.

That and when I drag to resize the mini player to show album art it's really glitchy.

Why is the Apple media universe still called iTunes? Are movies "tunes"? This is like building an outhouse, then later adding a mansion around it and still calling the whole thing an outhouse. It stinks. And it is very awkward since expansion has been piecemeal and they refuse to dynamite it and start over. The attitude seems to be "if it ain't broke" with iTunes. And yet with everything else they have no problem "breaking" things (e.g. remove headphone jack, only USB C on MBP, etc.).

Oh I don't know, they seem to have no problem breaking things in iTunes. The fractured, scattershot ui they've replaced the previous clean and straightforward navigation pane with has been an inefficient tangle, and now that iTunes beachballs upon opening 3 out of 4 times and must be force quit, I've moved on to just using vlc for everything, which actually works.

Have you tried rebuilding your library? Are you an iTunes Match subscriber still? I was a former Apple Music subscriber for 2 months, still an iTunes Match subscriber and Genius works fine for me.
Fyi, Genius still isn't working with new music. Apple claimed a few months ago they are aware of this issue when I brought this up to a senior advisor, so far it has not been fixed.

Hi logic!

No i haven't. Should I?
No, i've never been an iTunes Match user only Apple Music sub.
Yeah, Genius is broken for sure i've noticed a few days ago i can't play new purchases.

Oh sorry, I think my response was presumptuous you were an iTunes Match subscriber. Oops. :p
Rebuilding your library might be a good idea as a last case scenario, doing so is essentially starting over from scratch, meaning you lose all metadata like heart/star ratings, play counts, playlists etc, but there may be less extreme measures to test out first.

If you are only having problems with Genius, the first thing I would suggest is to quit iTunes, drag the file iTunes Library Genius.itdb found in your music folder to the trash and re-launch iTunes. This simply deletes a potentially corrupt genius file. When you launch iTunes, Genius should automatically start updating.

If that fails, I would suggest de-authorizing your computer, logging out of your Apple ID in iTunes (which would also effectively turn off Genius) and in iTunes preferences, resetting store cache/preferences.
Quit iTunes and once again try deleting that Genius file
Relaunch iTunes
Login again with your Apple ID & reauthorize your computer
Then update/turn on Genius

Hopefully that works.

As a final note, yes, Genius is broken for recent music but it still works well imo for older stuff. The issue with more recent music has been addressed on here and other forums and many users have given voice to the issue by giving Apple feedback. If you have the time, you can send it here.

It is more impactful when they hear from a plurality of people on the matter.

Nothing worked.
If i go to the subscriptions i still can see that i have the Apple music sub marked as 1 although i'm not a sub anymore.

and today i just got a new bug, after updating my ipad air 2 to ios 10.3 i can't synch it anymore via iTunes. :(

Bugs and more bugs each day.

That's too bad. Bizarre that Apple Music is still showing up in your account even though you are no longer a sub. I would suggest if you have an Apple Store in your area, book an appointment and see if they can clear up all these issues for you. I find the Apple Store can be hit or miss, I have met with genius associates that sound like they are from the engineering department at Apple and others that know less than the average user. lol
If you don't have an Apple Store in your area and you are no longer covered for telephone support with your products, you may want to try going through the iTunes Support
https://support.apple.com/itunes (button at the bottom of the page)
A chat or email option will appear, just randomly select one of the iTunes Store topics. Usually with more complex issues, they refer you to a phone advisor even if you don't have warranty and if that advisor can't help, you can get bumped to a senior advisor.
Anyway, good luck.

Thanks for your help-

[doublepost=1490446685][/doublepost]It's called iTunes because that's what it's called. If we had to change a product's name every time it's function changed, everything would need to receive a new name with every update. Initial names are used in order to retain product identity.

By this line of reasoning...nothing would ever change. Apple changes things all the time. There used to be this product called Aperture...the replacement is no longer called that.

The identity of that app and it's name were not as engrained as some other ones?

I tried to redeem my Rogue One code on a new maxed iTunes computer today but iTunes said I could only deactivate all computers once a year! Needed to choose another provider midstream so picked Google Play Store out of the hat. It went very smoothly. Goodbye to iTunes and the dumb limitations.
