Safari has given me an error "unable to load page" on a few things today, including Apple's own Downloads webpage!

Sent a bug report.

Why is Apple have this inability to release stable updates?

I'm not sure if someone else has come across this problem or if it's been addressed, but i had the developer preview for Safari 4 installed, however i tried to install Safari 3.2 and it said it couldn't install it as i had a newer version installed, so i deleted Safari 4 with Appzapper and installed Safari 3 from my install disc and tried again, however it still says the same error message. Can anyone help?

Try the instructions here, they seem to apply to the issue you are having.

Crash, works for 5, crash

Did they test this?? I'm betting 3.2.1 is out before the weekends up. Or they are trying to make the iPhone safari crashes look better.

Resolved Crashes

yep Its definitely PithHelmet that was doing it, removed the bundle as you suggested and now not a single problem, now, whats actually changed? :p

Does the anti-phishing work??!

http://www.phishtank.com/

If I go to any of those sites reported that were "phished" safari loads it and doesn't report any problems.... What is wrong?

Any of the ones that aren't truncated with a (...) give me a phishing warning. If I click into the ID on the truncated ones and get the full URL those also give me warnings.

I tried this obvious phishing site from phishtank.com, and Safari doesn't warn me.

The install from the Software Update killed my Bluetooth and Airport on my Gen 1 MacBook.

I had to download and reinstall the Safari update manually this morning and now Bluetooth is back but I can't surf or connect over WiFi. Airport sees and connects to my Airport Extreme fine but I cannot connect to my PMG5 over the network or get any of the browsers to open a single page.

Better be an update today or I'm going to have to do a wipe of the system.

UPDATE: I had to reset my SMU on the MacBook and now everything is running as it should. Don't think you should have to reset SMU for a "simple" web browser update.......

I've been running Safari 4 BETA for so long now without any problems that the new 3.2 release seems like a step back.

I wonder if they updated the 4 beta with the anti-phishing capabilities.

Disappointed to see that Safari still waits until a webpage is fully reloaded on a refresh before going down to the specific part you were before going down to that point.

I hate that. I end up waiting ages for the last little bit of detail to be loaded - I can scroll down manually to where I was before the refresh while the page is still loading. Why it does that still is bloody annoying.

My guess is that most people have fast enough Internet connections to make this a mute point. At least that is true for me. Are you limited to where you are?

I'm on a 10MB connection.

It isn't my connection speed - it is the speed of the website. For example, I'm checking the football scores on the BBC website, and I refresh to get the latest, and it goes to the top, then lags away then takes me to where I was before. The whole webpage has literally reloaded apart from one item, and Safari waits until that item is loaded before scrolling back down to where I was.

Firefox keeps the exact location during a refresh, where as Safari takes you right to the top and waits until the page has loaded.

Pretty daft and it needs to be sorted.

Note to crashers:

Reboot the computer.

Can anyone confirm that 3.2 has more security embedded than 4.0? I'm still sticking with Safari 4.0 Dev Preview unless 3.2 has more security.

No hackware here

Why the hell are people installing hackware then coming onto this forum to whine about their crashes. Dear god - they should do us all a favour - put their computer back into its box and sell it. They don't deserve to own a computer when they're that stupid.

Not only have I not installed any "hackware" but my MacBook Pro was less than 2 weeks old when I did this update. It had nothing but what Apple installed from the factory. Did that update and started getting crashes every 5 minutes or so. Something isn't right.

Well if you weren't just relying on Apple (or Microsoft ) to fix then do the simple by going to OpenDNS, use the service and sign up for a free account. In an account you can block phishing (reported from PhishTank) along with many others. You can even block any site you wish too.

Not to impress, at lease add squirrelfish. Since apple is saving squirrelfish extreme for safari 4.

If you're referring to the Safari update, then no, it didn't. Nothing in that update messed with Bluetooth or Airport drivers.

You don't have to reset the SMC for a web browser update. You have to reset the SMC if the SMC settings get hosed (which, given your non-working Bluetooth and Airport, it sounds like they did.) Remember: correlation != causation.

AFAIK, they're both up-to-date as far as security goes. 4.0 might actually be a little behind, but there should be a new seed sometime. Either way, it's not a big deal.

Safari crashes all the time now.

Anyone else having issues with the SafariStand and PithHelmet plugins and Safari 3.2? It no worky for and keeps crashing Safari.:(

Safari keeps crashing for me, especially when I have more than one tab open. I have Tiger, btw.

I almost freaked out after installing this. Apple slipped up an turned on some Universal Access feature for people with poor eye-sight. The desktop was bigger than the screen and kept following my mouse. I almost did a Windows wipe and reinstall, but luckily I found a forum message about the same problem after an earlier Security update.

Nice QC Apple, not!

Reproducible Safari 3.2 crashes and console log

[Request in advance: please, no flames about "hackware". This post is simply intended as another data point for debugging.]

I had a very reproducible crash in 3.2 (visited a particular page on npr.org and popped up their media player) that went away after I removed DuctTape/PithHelmet 2.8.2 and rebooted. Disabling PithHelmet via its menu control didn't help.

The problem returned after reinstalling D/P. I now have stable operation of Safari after removing it again.

Crash logs however don't always show calls to PithHelmet in the thread that crashed; for instance, this one:
