I have to ask... what is so much better about Chrome? Or Firefox for that matter? I have tried Firefox and found it to be frustratingly sluggish.

Firefox 4 is said to be released in one to two weeks. It is said to be far faster than the current version (Firefox 3.6) in many ways.

I use the internet all day long. For work and for pleasure and really don't have any issue other than with Yahoo Mail can be a slug at times... but honestly, I think that's Yahoo.

For the average consumer, really... is there any real difference? Please tell me or is this just a case of you liking red vs blue?

I've always seen it as a red vs blue thing, myself. For the day to day user, does a few milliseconds and the results of various speed and rendering tests REALLY make a whole lot of difference? Sure, if you're using an archaic piece of software like IE 6, then speed is a huge thing.

You got Firefox if you want extensive customization. Safari if you want the most "integrated" feel with OS X. Chrome/Chromium if you want a bare-bones browser that handles certain functions (like Flash), better than others. For example, I've just recently started using Chromium because of loading issues and RAM bloat on certain websites with Safari.

So in the end, it's whatever suits your needs best. And like you said with Yahoo, it's not always the browser's fault for being slow at times. Sometimes the website developer and their coding protocols are to blame.

I want a browser that doesn't take forever to load a website, because it's busy loading all the goddamn advertising first!

Safari is almost like Internet Explorer... It's irrelevant, left behind in the dust of innovation by Google Chrome (10.0 just released!) and Firefox 4.0 (in final beta stages).

Safari could be so much better if it only did data mining like Chrome does.

I've never had an issue with Safari. Has, for me, always been faster than any of the other browsers. It also eats up less RAM, and just about never crashes.

I'm not noticing any real difference with this update, though.

What about Opera? Literally the fastest browser. I still prefer Safari. We'll see if this update does really make it faster than before.

5.0.4 Available?

My Software Updater in 10.6 is showing Safari 5.0.4 but when I choose to go to Apple's webpage, the Safari download page and the download itself are labeled 5.0.3. Does anyone else have this problem?

I prefer the standalone installers over the updater simply because I can update my dad's Mac more easily.

I really do see it this way, too. Safari is so far behind that it hardly matters any more.

Speak for yourselves. Still a great browser to me and i prefer it to everything else out there (yes including Chrome)

same here. These guys having "daily Safari crashes" have other problems with their systems.

AKO does not work now

Wish I did not install it on both my wife and I's macs. Now AKO does not load past the login. WTF:mad:

Well if it's ads that are troubling you, look to Adblock, Adblock Plus, or the equivalent. Adblock is available on Safari (although it's performance is debatable), Chrome, and Firefox. Opera also has a similar extension. Preventing ads from loading (along with blocking Flash) will drastically reduce CPU load, and open pages a tad faster as well!

Do I need Safari with my iPad Too?

I have an iPod and I don't download Safari when the iTunes updates are sent. Do I need Safari with my iPad Too?

Which doesn't tell us much at all since it depends virtually completely on the computer used... Either run both browsers on the same system and compare, or run a single browser before and after updating to compare.

325 in safari

Opera is a very nice browser, but definitely needs some work. Just like with Safari, Opera needs to focus on developing a solid group of extensions, as well as fixing issues with webpage rendering and such. I had huge issues with 4chan, and my mobile banking website not loading/refreshing properly when I last tried Opera (the most recent version, I might add).

Wow, i'm actually noticing a change here. It's smoother.... seriously smoother.

but

After today's new Safari update I had Flash 10.1 on my system, and it was telling me I needed to update to 10.2 on Youtube homepage. With the previous version of Flash and Safari, Youtube was running fine in 64-bit. Now after these changes today, it's back to the same problem.

Flash doesn't run in Youtube with the latest updates. Just a black box once again, I guess i'm going to have to change it to 32-bit Safari 5 again.

The browsers

There are advantages and disadvanges with all the browsers:

The one that i won't use is Chrome! Imagine..., you can walk in the street enter some store, chat with friends, well, that's the street, it's a public place, maybe someone follow me and take note of what I do and say!. Even in public places I won't like to be tracked. But, if I'm at home I won't resign to my privacy.
There are alternatives to Chrome: SRWare and Chromium FreeSMUG.

Opera v 11, is a very good one, It's fast, really customizable, but, it's not much intuitive. I think it wil become more and more powerful, maybe it will become the best browser. maybe!

FireFox, has always been my alternative browser, customizable, but even less intuitive. Version 4.0 it getting much better. It has the best plug-ins.

Safari, is fast enough for me and stable, hmm not customizable, It's my main browser, because it share the same user interface with Mac OS, obviously it's Apple's. I really can trust Safari.

So, for me, I use Safari, Opera, and FireFox.

And of course, I use ClickToFlash, Ghostery, AdBlock, and everything that guarantes my privacy or surf more smooth.
