Why should I open Safari if I have Chrome?

Give me some reasons, please. I use Safari once in a year when something does not work in Chrome - just to understand that not Chrome has a problem.

Really - explain me, why should I switch to Safari??

So.....

no love for Windows users of Safari?...........

Can then, call Safari for Windows "abandonware".....?

I use both, plus Firefox, but the main reason to switch? Chrome is very resource heavy and drinks battery juice for fun, whereas Safari doesn't.

Safari also works much better with gestures.

What about Google Drive and google powered services (calendar etc)?

For Calender, surely you use the native OS X Calender & Mail app with your Google account rather than through a web browser?

As for Google Drive, I presume you would just have the agent/app installed so there's no need to use a web browser unless you are trying to access your stuff from another computer. Any web browser will allow you to do that.

Mail app eat up my traffic - I disabled it permanently :)

So, Safari has no any advantages upon Chrome??

Safari? Yes.

My MBP? No.

I just rebooted yesterday and I'd rather not do so again so soon (I have an irrational fear of constant rebooting =/)... and frankly if the update requires a restart to fix it, I find that pretty disappointing.

The issue with Safari gestures freezing is very common. Either put your computer to sleep and immediately wake it -- this'll fix it. Alternatively, restart the computer and it'll fix it.

100% guarantee in-out of sleep will fix the problem, I get it all the time.

Seeing as they haven't updated Safari for Windows for a couple of years now, and it's no longer available through Apple's website, you can definitely call Safari abandonware. :)

It depends - are you on Mavericks?

So, Safari has no any advantages upon Chrome??

It really comes down to user preference. I was using Chrome for a good long while and then about 7 or 8 months ago I was fed up with it. Google kept making little changes to things here and there and I didn't like how it was working and performing. I was having issues with GMail in Chrome, both Google products, and it was becoming annoying.

I dumped both GMail and Chrome and went back to Safari and my old @mac.com account.

But, at the end of the day, it's about which browser you're most happy with using. They both do well.

How can Mail 'eat up your traffic'?! That's simply impossible. Gmail is configured using IMAP!

I gave the main advantage - Chrome chomps up your resources which would be an issue if you were on the road whereas Safari doesn't. But you don't need me to tell you what browser to use, choose whatever you want.

The multitouch gestures in Safari alone makes it worthwhile. Pinch to zoom, double-tap zoom and swiping. If not for them, I'd still be using Chrome. Only advantage Chrome has are the extensions which far outnumber what's available for Safari.

I used Peacekeeper to test speed on chrome beta vs. safari. Safari was way slower. I'm using a late 2013 mbp.

Got the update installed and no issues so far. Actually, I haven't had any issues with Safari in a while.
I wonder if people having issues have upgraded from Mountain Lion to Mavericks instead of a full install.

In my case, my hard drive died so I opted for reinstalling and just restoring my user data from TimeMachine, instead of a Full System Restore.
And I do remember having issues in the past, most likely caused by the pile of OS X upgrades I had in my Mac.

I have had nothing but problems with this update. I am running a top-of-the-line iMac that I just bought last week that I paid a fortune for, and complicated web pages are loading FASTER on my old 2010 MacBook Air running 7.0.3.

Dialing Apple now....

Safari 7.0.4 pulled?

I installed this update on my Retina MBP and I had no problems. However when I went to install it on my Mac Mini running 10.9.3 about half an hour later, the update to 7.0.4 has disappeared and the latest update to Safari showing is 7.0.3, which is already installed.

I actually disable AB on sites I visit, it's mostly the sites I don't visit that I prefer to keep the adverts off of.

  • Popups (which use hacky javascript to bypass blockers)
  • Popunders (which have largely replaced the above)
  • Fullscreen click-to-continue ads
  • Those link popup things within the text
  • Ones smart enough to push download of a trojan installer but not smart enough to check too see if I actually run Windows
  • MacKeeper anything, ever

On my family's computers that run Windows, I usually install Adblock as a security measure alongside the usual anti-malware software, and teach them how to disable it temporarily when they are having problems with a particular site.

Just got 7.0.4 right now, so no, it's not pulled.

I just had it pop up now (hadn't updated yet) so barring other options (restarting Safari/App Store) I'd just restart and see if it pops back up.

Yes mr. righteous. Who said I also blocked MacRumors? I was talking about youtube video ads.

Oh excellent, now I can stop using Chrome Canary as my go-to por buying gifts browser. I hate when my bookmarks get all mixed up, ya know? Now I won't have all those popups showing up on...um...Amazon.

XD I never used Chrome since the fan on my Air goes crazy with flash ... flash videos. :p But only youtube videos ^^

Apple stopped development and support of Safari for Windows a while back, I think when Safari 6 was released. So it's not really "abandonware" as much as it's just been discontinued for a while now.

Some of us out here never buy anything ever based on ads. Not ever. They're just an annoyance so why not get rid of the annoyance if it's possible?
