I have had this swipe back problem, virtually every time I have updated OSX or Safari (happens with betas and final releases). What cured it for me, was doing a safe boot immediately after it happens. This has cured the problem for me and it doesn't happen again until the next update.

Ha. No. The whole loading process locks and up freezes for about 3 seconds once the blue loading bar reaches the end. The delay is very noticable.

I've had that. After browsing for a while the progress bar just hangs and I have to quit the app and restart it.

Since this update I can no longer see 4K/2160p videos on youtube. They only show a max of 720p. While on Chrome there's no issues.

apparently, apple became the number one in ruining people's lives with stupid updates that gets worst every time.....i guess this works.

That certainly has not been my experience. I've been with Mac's since 10.4 Tiger and I haven't had an update ruin my life yet.

yes, of course

Well then, right there's your answer. Safari on Mavericks is, dare I say, snappier. But seriously, Safari is lighting-fast, can utilize iCloud Keychain, and isn't near as much of a resource hog as Chrome is. Plus, it isn't Google, but that might just be me.

Sorry for the late reply.

But....

Apple stopped development and support of Safari for Windows a while back, I think when Safari 6 was released. So it's not really "abandonware" as much as it's just been discontinued for a while now.

do they announce that in a public and explicit way?....If so, I had missed that................

I actually disable AB on sites I visit, it's mostly the sites I don't visit that I prefer to keep the adverts off of.

  • Popups (which use hacky javascript to bypass blockers)
  • Popunders (which have largely replaced the above)
  • Fullscreen click-to-continue ads
  • Those link popup things within the text
  • Ones smart enough to push download of a trojan installer but not smart enough to check too see if I actually run Windows
  • MacKeeper anything, ever

On my family's computers that run Windows, I usually install Adblock as a security measure alongside the usual anti-malware software, and teach them how to disable it temporarily when they are having problems with a particular site.

Alright; that's reasonable.

Yes mr. righteous. Who said I also blocked MacRumors? I was talking about youtube video ads.

Those people provide free content for you, though, don't they?

Some of us out here never buy anything ever based on ads. Not ever. They're just an annoyance so why not get rid of the annoyance if it's possible?

They're an annoyance to you; they're a source of revenue for others. It doesn't matter whether you like the things that they advertise: they're how some people make a living.

I will say that some go crazy with them and do shady things, in which case it's not acceptable. But MR and others respect their users enough to not mess with them.

Not seeing 6.1.4 Mountain Lion 5-25-2014

I'm not seeing the 6.1.4 update as available via software update (App Store application) in Mountain Lion.

Wondering if other folks are still seeing it (and my update software is having a hard time) or if Apple took it down?

Anyone (who hasn't applied it yet) still seeing it as an update option they can select?

Could you provide any statistics showing where the majority of people have lives ruined due to OS X vs people who have lives not in shambles?
i don't mean ruined lives as in they can't survive..i'm saying these updates are giving much problems...and no i can't provide statistics..but i'm sure you can read the comments...and it gives you an idea about what they are talking about.

Cant check it now, but I had it show up when I installed it as recently as this past Friday (just two days ago).

New version is definitely snappier than previous - but, need to run some benchmark tests
before estimating the speed difference
