How about fixing issues such as broken copy/paste and long press on an image to copy URL in iOS Safari first? iOS 8 Safari has to be the worst pre-installed app Apple has ever shipped. It's ridiculous that it has been broken for so long with no signs of ever being resolved.

How about updating your OS to a version that's not 6 years old. Unbelievable

Why? At work I use Windows 7 Pro. I works great and has another five years of support. W7 doesn't get screwed up every year by yearly fashion show OSs that break things that used to work. W7 isn't caught up in new paradigm, latest-greatest marketing BS. It's kind of nice that way.

And they have yet to fix a glaring UI issue! When you are on a tab, enter a new address in the address bar, and open it in a new tab by pressing command + return, the newly typed URL remains if you switch back to the previous tab. What's more, if you reload the previously opened tab it will not reload but instead load the typed URL!

You answered your own question. Business support for W7. Old Apple software is only worshiped by a rather small group interesting individuals. No money in supporting them when most have moved on.

I have a MacBook Pro that is not capable of running anything beyond Lion because it is not fully 64-bit compatible (I would've preferred Mountain Lion over Lion, but that's a no-go). So it's possible the users who are complaining couldn't upgrade their OS even if they wanted to. We're way past the point where the average person needs to upgrade their hardware every couple of years just to run most of what they do from day to day.

That said - I don't expect Apple to maintain support for it at this point. And I use that old MBP as a streaming video server for use on our home network, not as my daily driver. Plus if I did want to take it out and about, there's always Firefox.

Keep in mind I know some users figured out how to install up through Mavericks on the 1st two releases of Mac Pro's - might be worth it to check it out and see if they have done that for MBP's from that era as well (as long as you have at least 8GB RAM so it doesn't crawl).

That would get you into all the security updates that have been coming fast and furious over the last year.

They need to update the windows version... its wayyyyy behind the others. It would be nice if they would give it the ability to watch the Apple keynotes as well. Since my MacBook Pro toasted its main board I don't have the money to shell out $1500 to $2500 for a new laptop so guess I'll have to stick to the apple TV or my iPhone :/ I would enjoy being able to access the keynotes on the PC more though (I know there is a somewhat annoying method of watching it through VLC Player and what-not but being able to directly access it from apples own browser would be preferable).

I am unable to replicate this issue. For me the new tab opens and it keeps me in the original tab with the old url displayed.

Broke compatibility with Apple's own site.

It seems you have to have this option checked in preferences > tabs: "when a new tab or window opens, make it active", or press command + shift + return to open it in the foreground instead.

Why are you still using Snow Leopard?

Many of us have machines that Apple chose the prevent us from installing newer OS X versions by artificial means.

Our machines can run the newest versions, but Apple has chosen to prevent us from installing the new versions. For those who understand how to edit Apples installation scripts, it can be worked around.

Sad really. Apple's attempts to force people to buy new machines only ends up discouraging people because we've already seen how fast Apple will artificially render our computers obsolete.

At least microsoft hasn't written it into their code to refuse to install if your computer model is on some list. Windows will install if your processor is fast enough and you have enough memory. Very simple.

Windows version was discontinued quite a bit ago.

Oh okay. Thought you people were just refuseing to update. Didn't occur to me that your Mac was not capable of running 10.8 or newer.
We happen to host a website and threads that provides instructions on installing newer versions of OS X to be able to on install on unsupported macs. Mountain Lion is fine but Mavericks and Yosemite will have graphics issue due to lack of OpenGL support. Not really artificial means but failure to push hardware.

Snow Leopard and Lion...

Really???

Yes, to some a surprise....

Snow Leopard and Lion are the only OS X's left that have some very expensive equipment (32 bit) that still have to use the OS X to run. They will not run on OS X after Lion due to companies not updating drivers, especially for the audio recording industry..

You may say, "Why then do the companies NOT update the drivers....?

Well, of course so the users HAVE to buy new products (keeps the machine going)...but in some cases we have no choice because there is not other products similar to purchase and upgrade too.

Most of the major audio recording companies fall under this. Tascam and Alesis are some to include. The say that it is difficult to make drivers for the equipment due to OS X changes in architecture....translated that they do not want to spend the money on updating "legacy" items and desire us to "buy" new stuff. Well....nothing like the Alesis MasterControl or Tascam's US-428 out there to buy...so we are left with not updating...

This is why you still see users on Snow Leopard and Lion. ;)

Just downloaded it. Hope it stops these random Safari self shutdowns.

Sounds to me like you might have a crashing extension, plugin or possibly a misbehaving website. I use Safari 16 hours a day and never experience that problem. Can you elaborate about your setup and when this problem occurs?

----------

And still Safari won't save zoom level. Crazy...

Curious why you need it to? Readability?

I just tried all of those and none of those problems happened for me. Everything worked perfectly.

Just tried this, as well. No problems. Everything worked perfectly.

I'm on the 10.10.3 PB, which includes Safari 8.0.5 already :) In case someone is wondering why their update doesn't show up on the app store.

They are becoming more like Google every day...

Or... some users are becoming more like Google users every day...

Current version no longer supports 32bit CPU running 10.6.x

But the page doesn't specifically tell you.

CoreDuo and CoreSolo CPUs are pretty screwed as far as browsers are concerned. Just been thru this for a client.

You can always install linux in these machines.
