Does the new Safari Tab groups NOT save when quitting Safari? I made quick organization of all my tabs only to find they're all gone after relaunching Safari Tech Preview this morning. Serious WTF, not what I would expect. Safari is set t relaunch all tabs and windows from previous session. This better be a bug, not a design choice.
I noticed the same thing. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Not sure if it is a bug or a feature though.

Also, pinned tabs do not show up in Tab Groups. What is the point of a Pinned tab if its not always there?

++ on the not saving tab groups.

I played with Safari 15 in Monterey and soon started liking the tab groups. Back to Big Sur (main dev machine - can't yet upgrade) and tried STP. Great to have the tab groups. They hadn't synced :-( So set lots up nicely only to lose them on restart - so not even local save is working. Nothing in release notes. Hope they fix this soon. Couldn't see any setting etc that may affect...

I did raise feedback issue FB9219350

I also cleaned out ~/Library/SafariTechnologyPreview - but this also made no difference even to local saving

In most cases, for most users, the problem is simply that users need to press a button to disable content blockers or pop-up windows. It's probably the biggest error from Apple to not make the "website preferences" icon a default part of the menu bar. I had to add it manually.
Thank you very much! Often asked to 'quit blocking ' on a specific website....and this is the way to go! Hope Apple wakes up to it...!

Does anybody know how a website changes the toolbar background color?

What a great question. I think Safari has its own internal method. I can't see any markup for this on any web page. On some sites, the color doesn't change at all, on other sites Safari picks the header color and the toolbar matches that exactly, which from a UI perspective is annoying. Some sites, like Mac Rumors the nav bar color is matched.

The whole thing is inconsistent and annoying... particularly where the page header and toolbar colors are matched perfectly, effectively incorporating the toolbar into the webpage. It sucks. Hopefully it can be turned off.

Not sure but I always thought it was done simply by transparency of Safari???? Or am I trying to answer the wrong question?
Current Safari has a little transparency on the toolbar which gracefully and minimally takes on some of the underlying page color as it scrolls.

Safari STP treats the toolbar like a chameleon which changes colors entirely or not at all depending on whatever-who-the-hell-knows.

Toolbar picks up the header color:

Toolbar picks up the nav color:

Toolbar picks up nothing: (yes I still read /. no I don't know why)

127 just came out. Don't see a news article yet.
Tab Groups seem to be gone completely (big sur). !!!
No sign of any comments in the release notes

I did notice the same thing, there should be something particular to be done, I personally like it, not great with some sites, but some looks great like the homebrew site, not looking good trakt

Edit: In most cases setting it picks up the <body> background, I tried on different websites including MacRumors, it works except the forum, and in a personal website that I use locally.

Thanks for the I was about to update, will keep a copy in case, even though I have use groups tabs yet.

1. How to use the "quick notes" feature?, does it work only on M1?.
2. Is there a way to sync regular Safari bookmarks to Safari Tech. Prev.?. Safari TP has some of my bookmarks from some weeks or months ago, but not the recent ones and cant sync the new ones. I checked and STP is not listed in the iCloud apps. Nobody else has this issue?. Any version of STP has synced my latest bookmarks, it finds an old copy of my bookmarks somewhere and does not uses the current ones. Any idea?. I forgot that I changed in the regula Safari the pointer location to my Favorites to be more similar to the previous version of Safari that showed the favorites in the start screen.
Nobody misses that you could pin websites to the start page?. I REALLY loved that. That feature alone made Safari quite different from other browsers, now Chrome, Edge, Safari, have very similar vibe, no efforts from Apple to really add value to the Chromium base anymore. Trillions of dollars and just copying other peoples designs...

Used to be able to drag the Favicon from the URL bar to the Bookmarks Bar to add that site as a favorite, but doesn't seem to work any more. The icon turns into an x to close the tab rather than allow it to be dragged to the bar.
This is a major issue. How can it have possibly escaped the developers' attention? It's no longer possible to drag-drop the current page into either the bookmarks bar or the desktop.

It clearly appears that these changes were made “because”, not really anything specific. What a **** show Safari has become.

He still works but you have to click on the tab, hold and drag, it will probably be hard if you have many tabs open and the tabs are tiny.

My favicon are still showing ....were pulled over from Safari proper into STR. Loss of Tab Overview is much more of a bummer to me.
