I never really noticed, but Firefox (my default browser) does the same. It's never bothered me, but that could be because we still have favicons to identify the site.

They are using the html <TITLE> tag as set by the site. It should be a short unique label for the page, but many sites either load it up with SEO terms or don't even both to make it different between pages.

i’ve legit never encountered a website that doesn’t work in safari in at least ten years i want to say?

i guess we do different things on the internet
Just to give everyone an example, if curious: www.playstation.com

It even used to give a Safari-specific warning, like, "This website not optimized for this web-browser." It no longer gives that warning, at least on my computer, but the issue persists as I can't even log-in using Safari; I have to browse that site using Chrome. I also have problems with www.xbox.com so I just browse it in Chrome, as well.

There's quite a few popular sites that work best in Chrome, but those two are top of mind.

I am assuming the built-in password manager with the 2FA system isn't available for this preview? I see the updated password list, but no input to add any 2FA. I guess that is a system-wide feature only on Monterey and iOS 15.

I honestly dislike the new Safari tab animations thing ... sigh.

I managed to dl before it got pulled.

Thanks! I installed this and now it won't open at all and gives an error. Probably why they pulled it. Curiosity killed the cat.

The 2FA isn’t a direct function of Safari, it’s included in macOS 12’s System Preferences. Not Safari.

Thank you.
I have successfully installed on macOS 11.4 without any errors.

Crashed on launch for me. The crash report gave the hint that the history was at fault, so I moved that aside, and it worked.

Does make me wonder if the reason this was pulled was a crash bug.

This.

It's always

  1. Blink (Chrome) implements feature
  2. Blink submits spec as draft standard; adds "oh look, we already have a reference implementation!"
  3. Web devs happily adopt it
  4. Web devs immediately blame Gecko (Mozilla) and WebKit (Apple) for "lagging behind"
  5. Spec is actually still being heavily discussed and nowhere near Candidate Recommendation — but since Chrome already has it and websites have already started relying on it, the damage is done
I totally agree with this statement. Safari doesn't support a lot of specifications (or isn't enabled by default). Here are the ones that just bumped into my head. The list should be much longer if we add everything to it.

OffscreenCanvas,
WebAudio, quite buddy, Not usable in production
WebGL2
WebCodecs.
ImageBitmap
ImageCapture
WebRTC, a lot extension and sub specs

In most cases, for most users, the problem is simply that users need to press a button to disable content blockers or pop-up windows. It's probably the biggest error from Apple to not make the "website preferences" icon a default part of the menu bar. I had to add it manually.

Does the new Safari Tab groups NOT save when quitting Safari? I made quick organization of all my tabs only to find they're all gone after relaunching Safari Tech Preview this morning. Serious WTF, not what I would expect. Safari is set t relaunch all tabs and windows from previous session. This better be a bug, not a design choice.

yea they gone. no more tab groups at relaunch

be advised.

Even my private browsing websites vanished, though the private browsing window relaunched; empty. this version has serious issues.

I can't find the "Reload Current Page" icon. Command-R works.

Click on the 3 dots to the right of the URL. More needlessly hidden functionality. Taking a page out of The Book of Windows. The fluid nature of this UI is going to take some getting used to.
