Apple Releases Second iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia Public Betas With Apple Intelligence

Apple should not have released the iPhone 16 lineup until the AI stuff was available. Many who don’t read these blogs were under the impression the AI stuff was available right away.
Watching football this weekend, I don't see why they wouldn't have that impression. Every other ad was for an iPhone 16 with Apple Intelligence. The ads did nothing to let you know it wasn't available yet.

I smashed the button and it's not showing up yet... I have like a big water thing on my thumb from pressing too much... /s

Can someone let me know if Siri can once again tell me when a song came out? That function disappeared a while ago and I am hoping it'll make a comeback. On a side note every member of the Siri team really should be slapped and fired.
I don’t know, but it no longer waits to see if you have another inquiry, once it answers your current question the Siri icon remains, but it is not still listening. I had really gotten used to that feature and loved it so of course they took it away. Also, I had gotten used to telling Siri to reboot my device and that is gone too.

Weird. On my phone, Language and Region alone doesn’t make it. Only with the US- or at least non-EU ID
It seems like they locked call recording to English speaking countries for now, so you need an Apple ID from any of the following:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • Ireland
  • New Zealand
  • South Africa
  • United Kingdom
  • United States
Changing the language & region alone doesn't suffice.

All iOS 18.1 users can now access phone call recording and transcribing
My iPhone 11 doesn't even have the option for call recording on iOS 18, although I've seen it show up on an iPhone 12. So is this capability going to expand to all iPhones that are compatible with iOS 18.1, or is "all users" intended to pertain to geographic limitations?

It really is going backwards fast isn’t it.

Please mention that this Beta does not have Sleep Apnea detection
unlike the main 18.0 release

Ugh, does it really still not have it enabled? Hoped that would be fixed in the second public beta. I wonder if they will keep it disabled until the final release. Wanted to try out Apple Intelligence but not willing to lose the sleep apnea feature that was part of the reason I just picked up the new watch.

I am waiting for my new M4 iPad Pro. Will I be able to install iPadOS 18.1 on it?

I lost my M2 iPad Pro and need to restore I a backup of my M2 iPad Pro (iPadOS 18.1) onto the new M4 iPad Pro.

iPhone 16 users will see a Control Center reset option and a Camera Control icon to activate the front-facing camera for selfies.

Why only iPhone 16?
Reset option is of course also available on older models.
Camera control option for sure only for 16 and 16 Pro iPhones.

Can someone confirm if iPadOS 18.1 Beta is available for M4 iPad Pros? I know it was pulled ten days ago, and the question is if it has been re-released now...

I got a new M4 on Sunday and installed the dev beta 4 without knowing about the bricking issue. It bricked my one-hour-old M4. :( The Apple store swapped it out for a new one for me, and I can still install Public or Dev betas on it, but I am too scared to. The non-beta iOS 18 has not been re-released, and I can find no information from Apple or anyone else on the status of the M4s and iOS18. I don't think we will get an official fix until 18.1 is released to the public in mid-October. I am tempted to roll the dice and try 18.1 public beta 2, but I am worried Apple won't replace a second iPad for me.

I can no longer keep both transparency mode and noise cancellation turned off. What? I’ve just had these for a week, are they forcing me to return them if they’re going to be removing features for real?

EDIT: never mind, they’ve added this as an option but it’s turned off by default and they don’t tell you about it lol

As a follow-up...

I got my M4 iPad Pro today, and iPadOS 18.1 B5 showed up in Software Update. I updated it, and ALL is fine. I restored my iCloud backup of my M2 iPad Pro (iPadOS 18.1 B2).

Hope it doesn't take too long to roll out the official 18.1 as waiting until then before updating from 17.7

Would guess mid or end of October. Probably more mid Oct because they want to release the AI features as soon as possible.
