did they fix that ios9 bug where everytime you opened an app the screen would shimmy for a second then settle into place ?

Thank you for that, in other words same crap as with Yosemite. Nothing has changed.

I don't know if I was not entirely clear in my post or if you are just being funny, but to be clear...

All of the issues I have had with Mail in Yosemite and even in Mavericks, which is where I believe they broke Mail to begin with, seem to be resolved. I would have issues with new messages not appearing for hours, messages read on other devices (iPhone, Gmail, other apps) would still show as unread in Mail. Same thing with messages moved to a folder or deleted. Basically it was all syncing issues. Mail never reflected the true state of the inbox and would often times need to be restarted to update.

Now, all of these issues seem to be resolved for me in El Capitan. The only issues I am having now is that the Mail app needs to be force quit sometimes because it hangs up or because it has some kind of error when deleting or archiving an email. I truly believe these are just little quirks that can be fixed before release. The major stuff seems to be resolved.

For me, I am actually considering switching back to Mail once these are ironed out. I hope this helps others.

Are the El Capitan public betas pretty stable? I'm signed up for the beta program but haven't upgraded because I'm concerned about stability.
I find it to be very stable. There are few programs that do not work, such as TotalFinder, but these issues are generally caused by the new security that El Capitan has.

If you're concerned about stability, don't subscribe to beta..

This. Betas are well, betas. One version make work beautifully, and in the next something may be broken. Maybe it's a little thing, maybe it's a major thing, or maybe nothing breaks. And in the event something is broken, you never know when it will be fixed. (Could be the next version, could be put off until release. Next version can come next week, 2 weeks from then, a month from then...). If you're nervous about it or depend on your device for daily work, don't install a beta. Only install it if you accept those things and won't be bothered by them, or on a device you use solely for testing things and are not dependent on.

That being said for me it's pretty stable, no real issues with the things I personally use. But I only installed it on a machine I don't need and won't be bothered by if everything had to be wiped tomorrow. I wouldn't install it on my main machine even as stable as it feels right now.

No sidebar fix, no usb fixes for my audio dropouts, no time machine fixes, safari still slow. I don't notice anything improved to be honest.

OS X El Capitan beta 4 focused more on performance improvements and bug fixes with few outward changes to the operating system.
I certainly hope they are concentrating on performance because Final Cut Pro X & Logic Pro X are the worst they have ever been on my 2012 Mac Pro, FCPX is full of spinning balls and hangs, whilst Logic is simple sloooow, man that thing has a snail speed GUI.

I'm sure once El Capitan is out and FCP and LP are updated to support it that will go away. Right now apps that aren't optimized for it certainly will do strange things from time to time.

  1. I uninstalled the profile to install Developer Beta 4.
  2. I re-installed the profile for PB 2 on DB4 and restarted.
  3. I checked for updates, and it stated that iOS 9 was up to date.
  4. The Feedback app is now back after re-installing the profile.
Public Beta 2 is the same build number as Developer Beta 4 (except that it came out a day later). It's fortunate this little trick worked, but I was happy to try it out even if it didn't. Glad to have the Public Betas on iOS and OS X now!

Thanks!! I'll wait for Dev Beta 5. If it doesn't let me install it, I'll reinstall the Public Beta profile and wait for Public Beta 3.

I find it interesting how buggy a major OS release can be just a couple of months before release. Apple must have a bloody lot of engineers.

1Password was constantly crashing on me with PB1 - it looks like it has been fixed with PB2. Otherwise everything seems pretty good my time machine volume refuses to change to the green icon but thats about it.
