I used the App Store app to update. It took about 7 minutes, then when it restarted, I got a disconcerting black screen. I was unable to restart for some time, and the cursor was active on a black screen. A few minutes later I tried to restart and the desktop finally became visible and everything seemed OK. However when I checked the App Store, there was no record of the Security Update having been installed...but neither was there an available update listed. So I assume the update happened. Very odd behavior though. 2012 MBP 9,2, OS 10.11.6

UPDATE: It took a while but now the App Store lists the completed update.

So we are currently beta tester for the new update?

After the update, my Mac Pro 2008 doesn't work anymore.

- Mac Pro has no start up sound anymore
- I can login, but it takes forever to load my desktop and the files on the desktop
- when I want to start some application, it says "Sie können das Programm <app-name>.app nicht öffnen, da Es möglicherweise beschädigt oder unvollständig ist." Something like: you can not open this application, because it's damaged or incomplete.

Seriously apple???

Any help appreciated.

Actually, your last issue is most likely with gatekeeper. Go to your Security and Privacy preference pane and select "Anywhere" then launch all the apps you commonly use. It resets itself after a period of time, so you might encounter it again with apps that you haven't used in the next 30 days.

I had this happen on Sierra and they have removed the "Anywhere" so I had to go all terminal on it, but you should be OK with this.

Be wary if you're using a Mac Pro with the Nvidia web drivers. This broke the current Nvidia driver (346.03.15f02) so no more nice 4K retina display until the Nvidia update is posted.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm using the Web Drivers on my 5,1 and an update that breaks them on a non-Apple card is a PITA to deal with.

Install seemed to be going OK on my 12-core Mid-2010 Mac Pro. Progress bar got to about 95%, then text "Restarting" appeared beneath it. Then the "spinning gear" or "segmented circle" appeared superimposed over it in white (like when restarting). But it's been sitting there like this for about 30 minutes now.

This Mac Pro has an ATI Radeon graphics card, not Nvidia, so that shouldn't be the issue.

Any suggestions besides a force-shutdown and restart??

**EDIT**

I finally gave up and did a force-shutdown. Mac Pro started up OK but with some of the delays and the black screen for a couple of minutes that others have mentioned. I'm hoping that's just on the first start after the update.

Apple: "They are important just because, anyway you are holding your mouse wrong."

Not my fault the mouse isn't smart enough to know which way is "up"... I should be able to hold it any way that I want, and have it figure out which way is which. The "puck" mouse could have been an interesting idea if it had been able to automatically orient itself, and didn't have a cable.

It installed fine for me (2013 MP) but for the first time, after restart the update didn't appear in the list of updates installed. It's as if I never installed it (but it actually is installed). Weird.

Same here (MP 2013-Late). Also, the UI for the update looks different. Might just be me and had not noticed the change.

My update is hanging at a progress bar. No text on the screen. Am I safe to force shut down?

I am not qualified to answer. But it seems to complete in stages, with longer pauses than you'd expect, so maybe it will work itself out. I'm sure someone else on here can answer your question though.

Well, this update just screwed me completely. I installed it, restarted, and my ENTIRE Downloads folder was wiped out. Every file is gone. No trace left. Of course I set Time Machine to not back up this one folder and that's what I get it. I'm incredibly outraged. Good luck everyone.

installed on my MBP 2011 running Yosemite - restart booted up to half loading line then stayed there for 5 minutes then suddenly loaded finder, but finder acted glitchy.. drives not selectable in superduper , so restarted again and stable now.

I have to test to see if they fixed the Youtube lag issue.
If you're talking about Youtube freezing when going full screen, you want to download the Safari Technology Preview. It's fixed in that version. (Once you upgrade to MacOS Sierra, I think you can use regular Safari again, it should be fixed there.)

From what I've heard yes the Safari Preview has the fix and Sierra is still a bit of a wait.

After applying the update my 2013late rmbp can't connect to internet. Wifi stats are as usual but it can't connect or ping any site.

Network issue doesn't happen in safe mode, but still happens after a normal startup. (Already disabled any login items.)

Any help appreciated!

This update kills nVidia web drivers. if you have a new nV card you will be down to a single monitor and bare bones functionality. DO NOT INSTALL IT IF YOU HAVE TO RUN nVIDIA WEB DRIVERS !!!!!! this update is really messed up

Does this mean the end of OS X Mavericks support has come earlier than expected? Seems like Mavericks could use this one last security update...

I also expected a final security update when Sierra drops. I guess that it is now the end of the line for Mavericks. Which is a huge shame, I am not ready!

In case you didn't notice, there's an update for Mavericks users as well!

Only Safari, not the security update.

It is entirely possible that Mavericks doesn't have the security issues that Yosemite and El Capitan did as a result of all the "extras" and iOS hooks added. Remember with ALL tech: One step forward, two steps back.

How do you uninstall this update? I didn't read the thread first, and now I have no nVidia drivers.

Edit: Installing 10.11.6 back over the top does not work; it says that the volume "does not meet the requirements" (with the combo update).

This was a mess for me. After the re-boot, my Mac Mini would spin forever after entering my log-in. Tried booting in safe mode, no such luck. Reinstalled from my back (always a treat) and figured I'd try again...same result. So after my second re-install, I'm staying away from this one.
