I am not sure if I should download Yosemite on October 16 do not want to go through what I did with iOS8 on my iPhone 5 too glitchy.

I'm running the previous Public Beta to this one, and it seems like they really made a good move doing these public betas, as opposed to the closed ones iOS had. There's really no discernible bugs in my experience.

As stated above me, it was only a 55MB update for my MBP in my signature (build number 14A388b). One thing that I'm loving about Yosemite is that when the download completes and the screen shut off and you see the first progress bar, it was accurate. It said two minutes, and so it was. The kicker is the second progress bar after the chime, which said seven minutes, and two minutes later it was done. Well done Apple, it only took about twelve years or so to perfect the progress bar.

I expect Yosemite to kill my 2011 imac

Will it kill my 2011 imac, the same way ios8 killed my ipad 2?

I used to believe that Apple cared enough about usability to make sure that all the products they claim can handle an OS upgrade would continue to have decent usability.

That didn't happen with ios 8 on the ipad 2.

Will they do the same with Yosemite?

Upvote if you will be downloading and installing Yosemite on all your Macs on day one.

No, because I am not insane.

After being bitten by the iOS 8 no cellular connectivity bug, Apple are going to have to work very hard to gain my trust back.

Right now Apple are behaving like complete amateurs with sub-standard software and abysmal quality control.

It doesn't look modern at all. Unless 2005 is now considered "modern".

TBH.... what has really changed since the first release of OS X?

Yes, it looks prettier, has more features, but in no way has any desktop OS had a revolution.
Nothing like "mobile phone to smartphone".

In short:
Of course, OS X Yosemite looks more "modern", but it is not revolutionary.

Just updated,

not sure whats happened but it seems to be running so much faster now! very pleased!

Don't be so obtuse. OP never said that it looked like Tiger, just that it doesn't look like what he would consider "modern".

I'd love to see what he considers modern.

In fact, what doesn't he mock it up for us and put it up on Drrible?

Because transparency and flat effects were so common back then. Why heck, I remember how XP was so transparent I could actually see inside my CRT and watch it at work.

Actually, transparent CRT's were hot in 2000..

Stop bitching like old ladies and talk about if any of the issues we've raised have been fixed.

Have you heard of OS X Tiger? It was released in 2005 and it was plenty "flat". Just about as "flat" as you could ever imagine.

Literally everything in this image looks like you could wrap your fingers around it.

This is the most un-flat OS I've ever seen. You could not have picked a worse example if you'd tried. Even the menu bar looks like you could slide your fingers up behind it.

Do you think that if you say opposite things enough times we'll all believe you?

I can only see public beta 4 still. Do I have to download that then incrementally update?

Depends on how important it is to be running the latest thing just as its rolled out.

You could just wait and see what pops up for the folks that do...there's going to be alot of new iCloud integration etc....if its a glass smooth release with no bugs you install after a couple of days, no sweat, but its never glass smooth for a big OS X release and iCloud is nearly always a (re)learning experience for Apple.

Remember...there will be bugs.

I happen to prefer the 2005 screenshot here. All the graphics in Yosemite look like placeholders. Compare Safari:

Old Safari Icon
New Safari Icon

I really hate to say it, and its water under the bridge, but I like the old Safari icon, alot better...
