My Apple TV somehow says the software version is 7.2.1 (8011). Any ideas?
I was about to type the sameLet me guess...this update slows operation of the 3rd gen Apple TV to a crawl, forcing us to upgrade the hardware?

"For customers who continue to use the third-generation Apple TV..."
Almost sounds condescending, doesn't it?
I have all 4 generations and use them all... I love the 1st gen for no other reason than taking advantage of the "analog hole" to archive my iTunes movies.
My point is that there is a use and purpose for each model.

Just updated mine (in the UK). All went very smoothly as an OTA update - takes a good few minutes to download, restart, then sat there for a while until it got to the 'Step 2 of 2' stage.
Might be some performance improvements - but no visible changes AFAICT.

How about "For customer's who choose to commit to Apple's base-level ATV, without annoyingly inaccurate features such as Siri, and aggravatingly absent and lackluster apps found (or not found) in the newly established app store."
One could only hope they refreshed the UI like on ATV4 but never gonna happen.
Still no Apple Music. I'd buy an AppleTV 4 today for Apple Music support, if it wasn't for the missing optical audio (Toslink) output. Spending $200 for an aTV is fine - spending well over $1000 for a new Denon receiver, considering my current one is likely to last another decade or three is out of the question.
I don't understand how there is not even an option of Apple Music on the 3rd Generation. Especially after they took away iTunes Radio.Still no Apple Music. Why would I update my perfectly working 3rd gen TV ... ?
