I have all 4 generations and use them all... I love the 1st gen for no other reason than taking advantage of the "analog hole" to archive my iTunes movies.

My point is that there is a use and purpose for each model.

The only feature I am missing on the 3-rd is Apple Music.. and it ain't cool if Apple is hiding it.. even though I pay 20 euros for their service !?

I bought the ATV4 for my Mom thinking she could use Siri to do everything. Wrong!!! When I said something as basic as "Start movie over" Siri came back with "I can help you with the following".... What a joke. And that micro touch pad is EXTREMELY difficult to use and she has an older iPad which doesn't support the remote App. At least I was able to program one of her existing remotes so she can use the arrow buttons on that in lieu of that trackpad. But what is the point of the remote if you still have to use other remotes to supplement functionality? I might buy the old remote (with the tactile buttons) for her because the new one sucks. And I am sticking with my ATV2 until these things get sorted out.

How about an update that allows it actually stream? On my same network, Amazon Firestick, and even the built in Smart HUB on my Samsung flat screen, stream movies flawlessly, while the AppleTV continually buffers. Getting tired of watching the spinning wheel on the AppleTV screen - even after multiple resets and restarts.

Still no Apple Music. I'd buy an AppleTV 4 today for Apple Music support, if it wasn't for the missing optical audio (Toslink) output. Spending $200 for an aTV is fine - spending well over $1000 for a new Denon receiver, considering my current one is likely to last another decade or three is out of the question.

Yeah, I only home share from iTunes and airplay content from my iPad. All the apps on my ATV3 are hidden. So it looks pretty bare bones. I have no real use for a 4th gen ATV. Don't think I'd ever get one.

Just updated mine (in the UK). All went very smoothly as an OTA update - takes a good few minutes to download, restart, then sat there for a while until it got to the 'Step 2 of 2' stage.

Might be some performance improvements - but no visible changes AFAICT.

Yeah, just finished here and nothing looks different. The ATv3 software is now 7.2.1 (8011)

I love my 3rd gen, don't seen any reason to upgrade to the 4. They are both 1080p, and i enjoy using a remote that doesn't shatter

How about "For customer's who choose to commit to Apple's base-level ATV, without annoyingly inaccurate features such as Siri, and aggravatingly absent and lackluster apps found (or not found) in the newly established app store."

I have both ATV3 and ATV4. Siri on the ATV4 is remarkably accurate, and incredibly powerful, at least for me. As for Apps; the streaming TV Apps work much, MUCH better on ATV4 than ATV3. And the remote is a giant leap forward. But you are right in that the non-streaming are pretty limited.

One could only hope they refreshed the UI like on ATV4 but never gonna happen.

I have both, and the interfaces seem very similar to me. The biggest difference being the black background on the ATV3 and the white background on the ATV4. But I greatly prefer the black background.

You can get an HDMI to HDMI+Optical splitter (also called an "optical audio extractor") for about $30-$40.

I don't understand how there is not even an option of Apple Music on the 3rd Generation. Especially after they took away iTunes Radio.
