Apple Releases Studio Display 16.4 Firmware Beta

Alongside the macOS 13.3 beta that came out this week, Apple has provided a beta of new 16.4 firmware that's designed for the Studio Display.

All Studio Display models are able to receive over-the-air firmware updates, but this firmware update is limited to Macs that are running the macOS Ventura 13.3 beta at the current time. Studio Display owners running macOS Ventura 13.3 can go to System Settings > Software Update to install the firmware.

Apple has not provided details on what's included in the firmware update.

It’s just through software update. It will show a notification like any other, then you have to reboot.

pretty much the same as you do your os to dev betas...

Saying stuff like this without showing why, only perpetuates the same false feelings for others making the issue seem larger than it actually is. Take the AirPods recent noise cancellation chagne. 2 updates ago, it got worse likely to avoid patent problems they are having with, the last update however has reimplemted a new form of noise cancellation that is up to par with the previous version. I ride a subway 1 hour to and from work, and there's a stretch of it that has a high pitched screeching noise which in the most recent version is back to being muffled in the background.

Why the need to say something like that. I assume you now fear upgrades on every Apple product/software. How can you feel that way and use Apple stuff? It's absurd and makes someone look very unwise. If Apple were really this bad, no one would use their products. And its simply not true. Please stop spreading Apple hate. It's outgrown its welcome and most people are tired of it. Thanks.

It’s still hilarious to me that this monitor is part of the iOS family. It makes sense for Apple, I get it. Why use a different SoC and firmware set when you already have one. Just blows my mind that a monitor has a full SoC and runs iOS.

It just works. No need to worry about strange words like firmware.

Seriously though you’ll probably just get it through System Update when the new macOS release comes out.

Nice, I like comments like this that mention real issues with good examples. I too have gotten a bit wary of updates lately but it’s for specific reasons and overly negative general comments don’t help.

Really, being afraid of updates is as old as computers. One should be afraid, and wait for others to take the plunge. But I think most of us on this forum, myself included, just can’t help ourselves and dive right in on Apple Update Day.

Every LG display I have seen has been flaky in exactly this way. I doubt there will ever be any firmware updates. Had the same issue years ago on Windows too.

Well, to be fair, I've had intermittent problems with all of my external displays, including Apple branded ones. It's been so rocky in the past that I used to wait a minimum of 6 months before updating to new OS versions in hopes that the display issues get discovered and ironed out before I have to deal with them.
