Does the iPad offer tabbed browsing with Safari now? I'm getting the new iPad, but I think I'm going to update my MacBook soon too.

Tabbed browsing has been part of the iOS 5.1 beta for a long time and now is part of the iOS 5.1 golden master that was just released wednesday with the new iPad. I have as a developer been using tabbed browsing since the iOS 5.1 beta came out.

Apple wants us to use technology without even having to think about what makes it work. Dropping version numbers would be a logical part of that.

Doesn't stop me from calling it the iPad 3 though, and the next iPhone the iPhone 6. (Yes, they skipped 2 and 3 when they did 3G and 3GS, so they should skip 5 as well).

Why is it that every time that I read one of these threads I see lots of ppl name calling and acting like disrespectful teenagers. Everyone has a right to ask a question and share their opinion without being called names or mocked.

Some Apple users are just posers. Very immature and think they're awesome but in real life have no social life so they spend most of their time on youtube telling everyone how the PC are copying Apple.

I mean, one youtube video, and there is this guy who spend a good amount of time talking smack. Must be nice to be a 30 year old living in your parent's basement and don't have to work.

And yes, it would make more sense to call it an iPad 3. I mean, everyone else does. Look at Amazon, the best way to search for an iPad 2 is to type iPad 2.

Honestly i would love to know what people really want from apple its like nothings good enough, I by no means think that you should accept anything a company gives you but apple so far has been stellar, put yourself in a billion dollar companies shoes, you have this hot product you want to make it better but you still need to make a profit so what do you do? you improve on what you think will have the most impact for the customer this time around its the display, and i believe once it hits shelves its gonna take off like wildfire ,we are humans, visual creatures, we like shiny and pretty things so the display is the next logical step, apple knows what there doing, because whats going to happen is as the tech crowd is lamenting the exclusion of sd usb nfc and other acronyms the non tech crowd is just gonna see a gorgeous screen to look at photos and read books and paint all the things in the commercial and honestly that's apples target market now..the average Joe... whats funny is that if apple were to say add a sd card slot, usb 128gb, stereo speakers and make there own stylus but leave the display alone then average Joe wouldn't want it, there are plenty of android tablets for that, but none with a screen that sets the industry standard

You still dont get it do you.

When someone asks which iPod Touch you have, you dont say "The new one from 3 years ago". You say "3rd gen". Apple dont call it an "iPod Touch 3rd Gen", they just call it "iPod Touch". The same is happening here.

They couldn't rename the iPad 2 to something else as that would be a mess. So instead they called this one just "iPad", but on the marketing refer to it as the new iPad. Once they stop selling the iPad 2 later this year, it'll just be "iPad" with a yearly refresh.

Seriously, how can you not get this? Its mind blowing that people can be that dense.

amen.

I don't remember them calling any iPod Touch "The New iPod Touch". They may of course have said "Here is the new 'iPod Touch'", which is different. That is the only thing people are questioning - the fact that they cross the line between presenting a new 'iPad' and branding it 'The New iPad'. I hope that's accidental, and that they'll drop "The new" from some of the confusing material, that's all.

You, however, are a different kind of annoying. Since you don't get what we're discussing, you're assuming that we are imbecils for not making the same assumptions that you do about Apple's new naming strategy. You may be very young, or have other excuses, but your way of adressing other forum members leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion.

Apple often refers to new products as "new" in advertising:

I can't believe they didn't bloody name it!

Mr. Potato Head!....Mr. Potato Head!!....
It has a name, and that name is iPad
