"Real" computers always have a place for me - they are my primary means of doing everything. The iPad/iPhone are excellent, but are naturally secondary devices, the way I see it.

IDA. My iMac has been dead for nearly two months now, and honestly, my iPad has kept me from buying a new iMac.

The only think I miss about not having a computer, is the ability to directly download a file to the iPad. If I could do that on the iPad, I would never need a real computer ever again.

That screen looks amazing. I really, really want to buy this. But I think I'd rather wait for next year and hope for 128GB. My 2 is more than sufficient.

I have a slow iPad 1 now. Maybe the iPad 3 will change my mind. :)

Never thought I'd find myself saying this (before its launch) but I'm afraid I have to fully agree.

It's not the spec hike I expected somehow.

Maybe I thought Siri was going to be built in for starters.

Best wait for the new Macbooks methinks before adopting the the usual knee jerk instant "buy first-ask later" of the 'dedicated followers of fashion' in 'ere! :p

Yeah Siri would have been great, maybe would have changed my mind, but I mean it also looks exactly the same, kinda boring.

You can't even store documents locally.

So the 5GB of sheet music I have stored on my iPad don't exist? Interesting.

My Pages and Keynote documents don't exist either. Crap. That sucks, as I spent a lot of time creating them.

Logic pro 9 was released in 2009, that is 3 years my friend.. And now you are suggesting I keep waiting another year and keep quite in the meantime?
Wow!

So what if it was released three years ago? It was last updated *three months* ago.

I run Logic on a three year old Mac Pro and it runs as well or better than the day I bought it.

You're just here to complain anyway. In one post you're afraid of the next Logic upgrade and in your next post you're complaining because it hasn't been updated recently.

You do realize it's just called "iPad"...right?

"The new iPad" simply means it the new "iPad".

I have no idea how people are thinking they are calling it "the new iPad".

They would never do that. Please....sorry...but, please.

A little bit of research and looking around would have given you the answer. Or if you were to buy one, you would see it's just called "iPad". Or if you watch the TV AD...at the end it says "iPad".

iPad

What is sad is last night on my local news they were telling everybody that Apple named it "New iPad" and were laughing about it.

What exactly are you expecting from a device, who's main objective is to contain a flat screen to look like?

Would you feel better if it looked like a spaceship?

Well, they just contradicted the iPad 2 title. So the iPad 2 will forever appear newer than the 8th model or something.

I have no problem with them just calling each one the "iPad" without numbers, but they've already numbered one of them.

The local news is sometimes retarded. They talk for 10 minutes about some random, insignificant story, 10 minutes about the weather that you can just look up in a second, and 20 seconds on the bombings all over the Middle East.

Every once in a while, they have a story about computer viruses and tell everyone not to download illegit stuff. I just chuckle.

Upgrade from Ipad2

Can someone help me figure out whether to upgrade from ipad2. I love the iPad -I use it as my main computer and use it to show videos, recruiting info and going online. I am often in locations traveling that don't have wi-fi easily available, so 4G is appealing. I don't mind spending the money if it is going to perform better and faster for me.

is it me? or are people expecting too much?
Siri?? there is dictation on the device, adding Siri is a small thing down the road in software. Siri is very Beta and works well but has flaws and issues.

BTW, dictating is still not a natural process on any electronic device. I have used Dragon Medical for 8yrs. You have to talk differently.

Dictation and good voice commands needs alot of cpu and ram to run well. Apple has nice implementation given the devices and ram.

What did the next gen iPad need to make people happy. I can understand 128gb of storage but then the cost approaches a Mac Air and things seem to get more gray.

I personally only see the need for a better front cam for facetime but do people really use the iPad as a camera? I never once used my rear camera.

I bought one but kinda have buyer remorse given the neg. response and my wife is probably not going to be happy.

I wanted the new Screen and LTE as my current iPad is wifi only.

I just cant imagine what was left off in reality.(Apple is never going to give us a usb or SD slot. At least it feels that way)

Sounds like the nice screen and LTE make it a great upgrade for you. Why would you not. The images will look sharper and more detailed. Sounds like cellular service is important and unless you get iPad2 16gb 3G, but then the tech is lacking.

I say get it, good business decision, IMHO. You can always sell the old one to re-coup some cost or keep at the office or home for work too.

I don't remember them calling any iPod Touch "The New iPod Touch". They may of course have said "Here is the new 'iPod Touch'", which is different. That is the only thing people are questioning - the fact that they cross the line between presenting a new 'iPad' and branding it 'The New iPad'. I hope that's accidental, and that they'll drop "The new" from some of the confusing material, that's all.

You, however, are a different kind of annoying. Since you don't get what we're discussing, you're assuming that we are imbecils for not making the same assumptions that you do about Apple's new naming strategy. You may be very young, or have other excuses, but your way of adressing other forum members leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion.

I think it is because they want to change our view for their upgrades and link the expectations for changes in Macs to be the same as in case of iPads. New Macs are basically only hardware upgrade. Apple want us to think in a same way with iPads, as iPads in future will be less different from each other with design, but have different hardware as it happens with macs. We've seen many revolutions in iOS devices, like enormous jump from iphone 3gs to 4, ipad 1 to 2, and Apple noticed that people pay too much attention to an actual name of device and decided to get rid of it. It will change the expectations of people and their whole view on Apple upgrades.

Remember my words: While Apple has a monopoly for tablets and is almost a single leader of post-pc devices, you can forget about revolutionary devices. You'll see mostly slightly changes of hardware that will keep their devices up to date with current year demands.

But it is just my opinion.

This is a great beginning, but can the new iPad replace a MacBook? I want to know if I can get by with an iPad in place of the MacBook, or do I need a new MacBook?

Only you can answer that question. Which one provides the most benefits you need? Which features and benefits do you absolutely need and not need? As with any purchase, you need to determine what you need and want, then make the best choice you can.

Exactly that! We could call it the Enterprise ... Or the Entry Price ... This would actually be given to the iPad 1 to encourage newbies to move up to what will now be known as the iPad Death Star.

This of course will be only available in black. And cause the prospective buyers to adopt a deep, breathless, guttural utterance...what's that?, they do that anyway ...

Seriously. Why no Siri?

And no stereo speakers built in to complement the screen?

I'm never happy am I?

All this hype for the iPad when all it has is a new screen. That's the only difference. I'll wait for the iPad 4.

All what hype? Apple didn't release a single word about the new iPad before it's release. And, if you think that all it has is a new screen, you need to watch the presentation again, perhaps several times.

The iPad has evolved into one of the greatest devices known to mankind, and keeps evolving.

So whats the story on "The New iPad" and not iPad 3..

It's great I love but it ain't a reinvention..

I don't understand the confusion. It's the iPad, newest version. Like Chevy announcing the new Camaro. It doesn't say "New Camaro" on the fender. Apple also announces the "new" iPod Touch each year. But it isn't part of its nomenclature. I am glad they are just referring to these by simple, un-numbered name now with generation info being the future way to distinguish updates. We have also been use to this with iMacs, Mac Pros, MacBooks, etc, for years.

Really wasn't looking forward to buying the iPad 27 someday.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

If Apple expects to lead the post-PC market, they need to think way outside the box like Steve did. iPad could have included:
More basic memory and ram.
A 10 megapixel camera.
Production invironment. Not everyone uses only Word and PowerPoint to earn a living.
A stylus, for Pete's sake.
External USB or even Thunderbolt.
And finally, but not completely, mend relations with Adobe and allow Flash compatibility.
Post-PC implies replacement. I am sure that the direction to smaller, more portable devices that amplify our ability to create, build and think are the future. I am disappointed that Apple didn't take a larger bite and present a device that is little more than an iPad 2 with a high resolution screen.
I remember the last time Apple was without Jobs and that very nearly destroyed the company. I hope history isn't repeating itself.

Wow, you should work for Microsoft. You think just like they do.

Well said.

Sent from my "New iPad"

What is sad is last night on my local news they were telling everybody that Apple named it "New iPad" and were laughing about it.

The point is... people are talking about it.

They would have talked about it anyway if it was called iPad 3... but the extra response of it being named "the new iPad" is more free advertising.

----------

I knew someone would post that, but the dongle is quite impractical since it can be easily lost and is ugly.

A SD card port on the bottom of the iPad (maybe tucked beside the dock connector) would cost nothing to implement and would not impact the aesthetics of the device.

And the REAL professionals would demand a CF card slot too.

Apple can't cater to all...
