That's the thing. It doesn't hang but the progress bar wasn't moving. Looked like it was stuck so I was watching and suddenly BOOM it was the login screen. No estimated time and the bar never moved higher than about 10%.

Interesting, maybe it really is only the installation progress bar that is not working. I waited about 10 minutes or so before restarting the computer.

Apple's software team must be working around the clock. Say what you want about the hardware, but they've been pushing out some rock-solid operating systems recently. Certainly they hold themselves to a higher standard than I can ever remember.

Good on them.

Fret not, there's still that one jabroni who refuses to upgrade from Mavericks because of flat icons.

Ah, a change - the input icons on the menu bar no longer show country flags for keyboards. Now ISO country codes instead.

You're updating wrong!

i noticed that too....glad I just left it alone instead of corrupting anything by a restart.

Font rendering on my non-Retina display has become a lot worse after this update. Previous Sierra versions were an improvement over El Capitan.

seemed to hang at progress bar, waited and it worked. the update button in app store kept flipping from download/cancel as it was downloading.

Yes, it may finally be true. so far the betas have been good for me. Will try this one too. Will have to change my attitude with apple if this behavior continues... I will be happy to relent.

Apple today seeded the third beta of an upcoming macOS Sierra 10.12.1 update to public beta testers, one week after seeding the second public beta and one day after seeding the third beta to developers. It's been two weeks since Apple released macOS Sierra to the public.

Beta testers who have signed up for Apple's beta testing program will receive the 10.12.1 macOS Sierra beta through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store.

Those who want to be a part of Apple's beta testing program can sign up to participate through the beta testing website, which gives users access to both iOS and macOS Sierra betas. Betas should not be installed on a primary machine due to the potential for instability.

macOS Sierra 10.12.1 appears to focus mainly on bug fixes and performance improvements to address issues that have surfaced up since macOS Sierra was first released. It also includes album support in Photos for the new Portrait feature in iOS 10 on the iPhone 7 Plus.

macOS Sierra is a major operating system update that introduces features like Siri support, cross device copy paste, improved iCloud functionality, the ability to unlock a Mac with the Apple Watch, an Optimize Storage option, and more.

They need to fix the external monitor bug. My super widescreen setting are now gone and I'm left with low res on only 80% of my sceeen.

My iMac's Wifi won't reconnect after wakeup after I upgraded to Sierra. I have to reconnect manually. Is this still a problem with the beta?

Yeah, because it's not like anyone who installed iOS10 in the first hour had their iPhones and iPads bricked is it?

I honestly feel like we've been beta testers for most of the last 6 years the way their software quality has gone.

I hate to sound like an old timer, but the final 10.6 release felt like one of the more stable versions. The final 10.11 release felt pretty good, too. 10.12 feels a lot like 10.7 to me - a lot of strange issues and rushed features that work pretty halfassedly.

They need to fix messages on MacOS. It's super buggy since the last public update. AIM doesn't work and iMessages lag really bad when trying to type a message.

Are you being sarcastic? They have had more and more bugs with every update. MacOS Sierra is like Windows Vista. Too many bugs on launch. iOS updates launch with more bugs lately too.
