You might already know this, but while there's no PS Vue app on the Apple TV (and probably never will be), it looks like you *can* choose PS Vue as a "service provider" for several of the standalone channel apps (e.g., HGTV).

FWIW, I don't have PS Vue, but I happened to notice the above when I was snooping around in a couple of the apps.

I use vue for NFL red zone. I could get Sling tv and get red zone. But I had tons of issues with Sling. I have no issues with Vue. I would just use my credentials to sign on to the Apple TV apps. But the NFL app doesn't give Vue as an option to authenticate.

Homekit is still not working with AppleTV after update. I have it enabled and controlling lights from phone and from iPad but AppleTV tells me to add a device? HUH??o_O

Dark mode, yay!

Still no Siri in my country, boo!

Updated iPhoto Library interface, yay! Still no synced smart albums, boo!

HDR basic support in tvOS, yay! No way to use it yet, boo! (Thats okay, I dont have a TV that supports it anyway!)

Any idea if the SSO will ever become available in a future update for previous generation AppleTVs?

Single sign on... this should have been there from the beginning. What a PITA to do it for each app.

This feature was pretty much the feature I looked forward to with tvOS 10. Sucks it is not there.

Signing into every app is mainly a pain because the sign in seems to only last a week or two and you have to do it again.

i had hoped that they would put back the "snap to" functionality when using a keyboard - in other words, while browsing a computer's itunes movies, pressing "S" on a bluetooth keyboard snaps to the first movie that stars with "S". the prior appleTV had that forever. the new one doesn't.

no joy though. this sucks. i ain't about using siri to control this thing; i have a logitech media center keyboard thingy.

Because the headline was factually incorrect. Apple did not release tvOS 10 with SSO. That's why it's a bad thing.
Wasn't an autopost, but yes, we prepared a post ahead of time to let people know about the update right away. I've updated the post to to clarify that single sign on is not in this release of tvOS 10.

Do you know for certain it isn't included? All the developer documentation says this is enabled when the service providers update their apps. Meaning it could be there but the apps have not been updated or pushed out yet.

same here. I avoid so many apps because of this. seems like every time I open one it wants me to re-activate it. pita.

Apple today released tvOS 10, the latest operating system designed for the fourth-generation Apple TV, bringing a range of improvements that make it easier to locate and watch content on Apple's set-top box.

tvOS 10 can be downloaded over the air through the Settings app on the fourth-generation Apple TV by going to System --> Software Update. Those who have automatic software updates turned on will be upgraded to tvOS 10 automatically.

In tvOS 10, Apple has brought improved search, expanded Siri capabilities, a new dark mode, a Continuity option for using the iPhone for text input, automatic download of universal apps, and more.

With tvOS 10, Siri is able to search for movies by topic, bringing up content around a theme like "high school comedies from the 80s" or "movies about dinosaurs," and a new Live Tune-In feature lets Siri go directly to a live channel in a supported app.

A Single Sign-On feature for pay TV apps that lets users sign in once with their cable credentials to access all live cable content included in a cable subscription was supposed to be included in tvOS 10, but it appears Single Sign-On was not included in the first version of the operating system and will be coming at a later date.

Third-party apps can do more in tvOS 10 with developer APIs for recording and live broadcasting, accessing iCloud Photo Library photos, using HomeKit, and developing games with more complicated controls that necessitate a game controller.

iOS 10 features like the Apple Music overhaul and the new Photos "Memories" feature have been ported to tvOS, allowing users to access the new Apple Music interface and view favorite Photos memories.

For additional details on what's included in the tvOS 10 operating system update, make sure to check out our full tvOS 10 roundup.

HomeKit via Siri on tvOS is fantastic! It's actually faster than on the iPhone or Watch. It's instant.

Red lights: BOOM! Turn off the living lights: BOOM! Set the temperature to 23: BOOM!

Siri has always been noticeably faster on AppleTV. My guess is that it can be always ready since it's always powered and doesn't have to save a battery. HomeKit reflects that speed. It's amazing.

This is on CNET....

Absent for now, however, is one of the bigger usability enhancements Apple promised earlier this year: single sign-on. Apple's representative told CNET that the feature, which eases setup of TV apps like Watch ESPN and FX Now that require a cable subscription for full functionality, is coming later this fall.

I found this on reference.com:
In North America, the fall season starts around September 22 and ends around December 21. Each year the exact date of the beginning and end of fall changes, but the dates are generally around those times.

they can give apple tv dark mode but not ios

Let's be honest, though - it's not even remotely the same thing as what people are asking for on iOS.

They can put this on the TV because the home screen is "self-contained" in that it doesn't spill over into every app like iOS does (status bar being the obvious example). They're also not really applying Dark Mode to all of their stock apps on tvOS, which is what people want on iOS.

Apples and Oranges.

Thanks! I wish Apple would come out with statements on release instead of leaving it up to journalist to find out for the rest of us.

Does this mean no Apple TV 5 this year…:(

No hardware reason to update until Apple unveils their Movie/TV service which will likely be updated to 4K and require a new box.

The existing hardware is powerful enough for anything they can throw at it. Other than 4K, what would you want in a new box?

A nice feature not well known in the new tvOS is a Night-shift like ability. Since tvOS inherits the same "Display Accomodations" feature that iOS 10 has, you can bind a further dimming and/or color temperature shift to the menu button. So if it's night and the color accuracy of what you're viewing isn't vital, you can get a more comfortable (or circadian rhythm compatible ;) ) screen. Maybe not something I'd bother with if you had to traverse the menus every time, but just a couple clicks of the menu button makes it convenient enough.

This update has made my AppleTV less functional. Several 4K and HD files that were fine with the previous version of tvOS no longer work with this new version. The problem seems fairly random, with some files playing just fine and others not loading or a "This content cannot be played..." message appears.

I would avoid this update if you watch anything other than videos purchased from Apple.

Wow - I didn't know that was there. Thanks.

I look forward to the day when my TV has the necessary sensors to make "True Tone" a reality. Once you've experienced that on the iPad Pro, you want all of your devices to have it.

Is the apple TV the hub or the ipad? maybe it has to be to apple TV
[doublepost=1473795727][/doublepost]I bet Dark Mode will use less power for the TV- that would make me switch

It can be either. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207057

Set up your home hub
Set up your iPad or Apple TV (4th generation) as a home hub to automate and remotely control your HomeKit accessories from your iOS device. The device you set up as a home hub must remain in your home, be connected to your home Wi-Fi network, and needs to be powered on.

Set up your home hub:

  • On iPad: Go to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your Apple ID. Make sure you turn on iCloud Keychain and Home. Then go to Settings > Home and turn on Use this iPad as a Home Hub.
  • On Apple TV (4th generation): Set up two-factor authentication for your Apple ID. Then go to Settings > iCloud and check that you're connected under HomeKit.
You can check the status of your home hub in the Home app on your iOS device. Open the Home app and tap
ios10-home-app-share-control-icon.png
in the upper-left corner. Then look under Home Hubs to see if your home hub is connected.
Edit to add Dark Mode isn't going to save you much in electricity. Depending on your TV of course: http://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/power-consumption-and-electricity-cost

So did i read that correctly? There is no single sign on with this update? That would be disappointing

EDIT: Apparently it isn't in this update. Classic Apple. Over promise, under deliver. Let's hope we don't have to wait much longer for that feature.

A more accurate description would be "Classic Apple, promise something without actually talking to the other organizations in the industry that need to be involved to make this work." It's not something Apple can just do by themselves.

Right because Apple can't update the color/uielements on every stock app. When they are able to do updates to almost every app in a new major release. Not apples and oranges in the slightest.
