It's now no longer possible to choose speaker output via the "Video and Audio" settings. How do I set HomePod as my speakers now?
You access it now by holding down the monitor/computer screen button on your remote and choosing the airplay speaker you want.

**Fingers crossed** Scrolling in the YouTube app will be possible again without having to restart the whole device!
If this is the issue I think you have, I believe you can solve the problem by closing and relaunching the Youtube app (double clicking the app then swiping up) instead restarting the whole AppleTV.

I have an idea for Apple. Create a software download center in TV OS so that in a household with multiple devices, one software copy for each device type could be downloaded and stored on the Apple TV storage and then devices on the LAN could download those software updates from the Apple TV.

I have four Macs, two Apple watches, three iPads, three iPhones, and two Apple TV’s. I would love a feature where I could specify all the devices I own in the Apple TV interface and have the Apple TV automatically download the updates when they come out. Then, I would choose when each device would get their updates from the storage on the Apple TV.

A 64 GB Apple TV could store a software update for every device in the household and help not to exceed data cap. Also, for those with slower download speeds, this would be a huge improvement. The Apple TV can be downloading software upgrade for all home devices overnight and then the users can quickly download updates over the LAN.

tv speaker + homepod function is not available anymore? would love to play together though

This tvOS release seems to be the same as the 14.2 release candidate since it tells me I have no update available.

After updating my Apple Tv 4K tvOS to 14.2 all my screensavers are gone but one
In settings I do not have the possibility to choose Themes . That menu is gone too
I still have it on an older Apple Tv HD and there it shows Themes
Is it happening to someone else? What can I do?

"You can't choose a specific Aerial to play on your Apple TV, but you can choose a theme. Just go to Settings > General > Screen Saver > Themes. Swipe and select a theme to Show or Hide it when your Aerials play."

Not sure what you should try other than a restart, but my AppleTV 4k does still have the Themes menu, right under the Type menu in Screen Saver. You do need to have Aerial selected as the Type for it to appear though (it really should be some kind of submenu or something, not the best UI decision here).

Not seeing any of the homepod atmos integration in 14.2 (even following instructions) with the 18K57 build, but at least I can select homepods as default speakers and they seem to stick. Oh, and they must have fixed lag enough to allow for the UI click sounds to work

I was having the same issue but I’ve figured it out. In the Home app on your iPhone or iPad you have to go into the HomePod settings and move it into the same room as your Apple TV. Once you do that you a dialog box will pop up asking you if you want to make it the default speaker and you can go into the Apple TV settings and change it there as well.

Thanks, I do have it selected and restarted few times but nothing is happening , sigh

Exactly my thought on this matter, Apple can do better
Like seriously. Every WWDC is the same. I'm eagerly waiting for new awesome features. And all I ever get is some new random screensaver.

I'm also trying out TV+ for the first time. Who designed the TV app??? I can't for the love of god find a list of just TV+ shows, it's just trying to make me watch shows from networks I don't subscribe to.

Still no 24 frame support - most annoying when watching Netflix and the stutter.

Well it is a serious issue occurs to me time to time. I always thought it was on Youtube app side. just restart the app itself would work.

I’ve had no issues with the YouTube app. I don’t think it’s a widespread problem. Have you tried resetting your ATV to factory settings ?

Tried... It doesn't work on my AppleTV.

After one day and few more restarts, I got 6 screen savers back (6!) when you have one download a day max.
And Themes menu appeared . I guess my screen saver are still in my Apple TV already and they are resurrected time to time
Go figure it!

I used to use this shortcut all the time. I think it must have been removed in tvOS 14? (it was definitely working in 13). If so, looks like use the hold down TV button instead. (Which is not terrible, works in apps while I think Play/Pause had to be in the home screen, can’t exactly remember now)

Maybe, just maybe, spatial audio will appear on my ATV 4K after the update.
In the tvOS "full roundup" on this site, I read "A new Spatial Audio feature for the AirPods Pro works with the Apple TV and allows for a surround sound-like experience when wearing the earbuds."

Can anyone confirm this information to be accurate?

Thanks a lot

Any info? This would be exciting.

I've updated my 4th generation Apple TV (so, not the 4K ATV...) and the spatial audio is nowhere to be found with my AirPods Pro. I get a wonderful spatial audio on iPhone and iPad, though...

This can be related to the generation of the Apple TV or simply not accurate, since in Apple support page the Apple TV is not among the spatial audio compatible devices.

Regards

I pointed out the thing to MacRumors editors, and now every reference to spatial audio has disappeared from the tvOS 14 roundup page.
That’s the tombstone, for now, I’d say...

tvOS 14.2 sadly hasn’t fixed the biggest issue that’s ruined my setup since updating to 14: Home Sharing (via the ‘Computers’ app) no longer plays Dolby Digital 5.1. It outputs 2CH PCM stereo when playing the surround track, no matter what you set the “Change Format” setting to..

Weirdly, if you rewind then resume playback it suddenly switches to Dolby, but often still 2CH stereo instead of surround :(
