Apple today released tvOS 14.3, the fourth update to the tvOS 14 operating system that was initially released on September 16. tvOS 14.3 comes more than a month after the release of tvOS 14.2.

tvOS 14.3, which is a free update, can be downloaded over the air through the Settings app on the ‌Apple TV‌ by going to System > Software Update. ‌‌‌Apple TV‌‌‌ owners who have automatic software updates enabled will be upgraded to tvOS 14.3 automatically.

The update brings support for Apple Fitness+, the company's new subscription workout experience that uses the Apple Watch to track workouts, and a new Fitness app will show up on the Apple TV once you've updated to tvOS 14.3.

Apple does not offer detailed release notes for most of its tvOS updates, so we may not be able to determine what else is new in the software update. Apple provides some tvOS details through a tvOS support document, but information is often limited.

The main ‌‌tvOS 14‌‌ update released in September introduced Picture-in-Picture outside of the ‌‌Apple TV‌‌ app, introduced audio sharing features for connecting two sets of AirPods or Beats, added new HomeKit capabilities, and expanded game controller support and multiuser gaming options. More on tvOS 14 can be found in our tvOS 14 roundup.

I know there was some talk about support for the new Xbox Series S/X controller (as well as the new PS5 DualSense controller) during the beta phase. Do we know if that made it into the release of tvOS 14.3? I won't have a chance to check it out until later this evening.

The one feature that I really, really want to see (or rather, hear) is Spatial Audio. It would make such a difference when wearing AirPods Pro or Max. While it's lovely to have these things on mobile devices, I tend to consume the majority of my media on the Apple TV.

Also, having bought an Apple Watch Series 6 earlier this year, the new Fitness app is only giving me a one month trial instead of three. Bit of a poor show, that.

I'm just hoping that this fixes the compatibility issues with my new LG CX via Dolby Atmos over eARC... also would be nice if it fixed the lip sync issues....

It doesn't fix the Dolby Atmos / LG CX issue. I just tested it. I think it's an LG bug. On their support forums they said a fix should be coming in December, but LG isn't super reliable with fixing bugs.

It’s a shame there is no mention of Spatial Audio. It doesn’t make sense that you can’t experience that on the big screen. I’ll guess they’ll be saving that for a new Apple TV.

Thanks for testing and letting me know. Crazy that such a bug was allowed out the door. I'm considering switching out my CX for a Sony A8H, which hopefully won't have the issue.

Yes indeed, it's not good. I still love my CX for the most part, but I hope they fix this bug soon.

White the new features for the 4th and 5th generation are nice, I hope they introduce a current Apple TV and remote soon. The 5th generation is long in the tooth. Nearly 3.5 years in the tech industry is ancient.
I’m surprised they didn’t release a 6th Gen this fall with HDMI 2.1. But it’s a good bet now that one will be unveiled in the next year or so.

Anyone else getting "Pairing Canceled" when trying to connect to Fitness + via the Apple Watch?

Log in interface for fitness+ on ATV is 🤢, crushed avatar and only shows name of device rather than your own name... very un-Apple

Wonder if the new build will prevent me from having to re-login to Netflix EVERY ****ing TIME I LAUNCH THE APP.

How so? As a media consumption device, it doesn't fail to deliver on any industry driving feature.

I agree, but at the same time I've been holding off on buying another one for the TV in our home office until Apple updates since it's seemed imminent for a while now and it's likely to be a big update by this point (maybe actual gaming potential?)

hdmi 2.1 devices are really just starting to hit the market, and the people who have TV's & receivers with it are low comparatively. i think receivers are only getting it now in the high end? dont quote me

i've got an rtx 3080 and that has its own host of compatibility issues with a CX. it's absolutely a divine pairing when things are functioning properly, but the bugs present are definitely obnoxious.

still the most gorgeous panel on the market.
