Had to take my Apple TV HD to my brothers house to use his WiFi to update from 14 to 15.3 because the update was so large for my hotspot it said it would take 5 hours.
Is the 15.4 update incremental or is it large update again? How do we know the size of these updates?

Apple has always been steadfastly against this for some reason. It's to the point that web browser apps aren't even allowed to be submitted to the App Store for tvOS.

Notice that even with this change, you authenticate on your phone, not the ATV itself. Apple REALLY doesn't want you to load web pages on tvOS.

Seems like Apple's decision is profit driven so you have to buy another Apple device to authenticate Apple TV. If you're somewhat tech savvy you can just use a travel router NAT'd behind a single IP for phone, tablet, laptop and Apple TV all for authentication.

The WiFi network can be a factor. To determine that, try connecting to an Ethernet cable instead of using WiFi. If you notice a difference, then the WiFi network is the culprit, not the Apple TV itself.

Not mine, I have full signal in every device, I use Eero Pro 6. And all my other streaming apps work fine, it's only Netflix I have the issue with. It could be a setting in the Apple TV playing around with it somehow I guess.
I'll see how it goes with this new update.

Welcome feature. A lot of people have been missing out on taking the Apple TV to travel with them, I think for not being familiar with the MAC address spoofing trick. This just makes it simpler for everyone (as long as you have an iPhone as well). At least the MAC trick is brand agnostic, any laptop will do ;)

Anyone else missing earc support after updating? The option is just plain gone.

Anyone know if this fixes the issue with Audio cutting out when playing Atmos content on a receiver?
Just in csåase you firgot about it, it might help to update the firmware on the reciever, personally I've never had problems with atmos from anything on Appletv ( appart from that one tine netflix apperently screwed up the encidung in a letivular move, I don't remember which ).

I did not have these issues after installing tvOS 15.4 on my ATV 4K 2017. It did take a lot longer to install 15.4 than other recent updates though, and it required several reboots that were done by the update itself. Perhaps you jumped the gun before it was completely installed. Apple never has had good on screen prompts for updates on any of its devices, so it is best not to even touch them until you are sure the updates are completely installed and ready to go.
When it's on the main screen showing the apps I can safely say the update is done.

In the what' new after the update, it says picture in picture to see you connect cameras. Is this new, or is it still the side menu that slides in to give you access to your homekit connected items?

Wow! I guess my parents would simply tell us to control our desire and do something else.
Would it not be more affordable and less cumbersome to just connect an iPhone or iPad with an HDMI connector to the TV. If the favourite Disney movie was saved to local storage it would be even better.

Most hotels have a tv...you do not need to bring your own.. and Apple Tv is quite portable...am I missing something?
More portable than an HDMI connector for either iPad or iPhone, probably be cheaper too.

Omg yes. This is driving me nuts with Netflix right now.
I used to have an AppleTV 2 and 3 a long time back but never found any practical reason to keep it, most of it and more can be done with a more affordable HDMI dongle to iPad or iPhone and with BT mouse support it’s more flexible. Most TV’s sold now have AirPlay support and AndroidTV boxes and sticks can be found even cheaper and have AppleTV+ support and other apps such as Netflix, so what exactly is the point of this overpowered, underutilizes and overpriced AppleTV set top box compared to it competitors.

One can even limit or restrict the amount of data connected with AndroidTV which takes under 5 mins to do, so privacy is not a major factor either.

LOL. True, most hotels have TVs in the room. I was thinking about what other possible situations would one lug around an AppleTV.

It reminds me of the days when Wifi was just becoming popular and Apple made the Apple AirPort Express, a very portable WiFi router. That was an item that I did carry with me and was just the size of a MacBook Pro charger. Back then, hotels may have ethernet connection but no WiFi. Those days of needing something like an Apple AirPort Express is mostly gone, if not totally gone!

This is really nice, though a bit late for me as I ended up buying an Amazon FireTV 4K stick for travel since it can do the same (on the device).
No it does not do the same. Can you access your photo library? Podcast library? Music? Purchased iTunes movies?

While I agree that the included apps do the job, in my personal opinion, I like the convenience and smoothness of the Apple TV. I like the multi function aspect. And I'm pretty vested into the ecosystem so it's nice to have that fluidity.

Basically is a nice to have not an actual need or filling in a gap in what is already available.

I have a shield and GoogleTV and it works pretty well on both. The shield is far superior and as smooth if not more so compared to a close ecosystem such as the AppleTV.

Even an iPod Touch/iPad Mini would work just as well with more flexibility as the little one can be entertained while ln the road.

This update has issues.

The Apple TV is now not deinterlacing correctly.
I see those "scan lines" especially with motion.
I have been watching old shows, like All in The Family, on Amazon Prime, and these scan lines are terrible.
Was NOT doing this before the update (15.4) came out on Monday.
It does it on any streaming app with interlaced content.

Amazon Prime video app is now not usable.
After it plays an add, and resumes the program, the audio continues to play, but it shows a black screen with text on the bottom "Your video will resume in 0s". can not back out or close app. Have to Power cycle the Apple TV 4K.

Other bugs...

The Siri Orb does not auto turn off after you trigger it and use it. it just stays there until you press the back button.

I saw there was an update for my Apple TV third-generation as well, nice to see them still supporting it.

I have a Sony X900H which has Android TV built in as well as Airplay and the ATV app. The user experience on that has been excellent but I wanted to switch to the ATV4k to have a unified Apple experience. Since doing so I’ve regretted it. The audio output is limited compared to the Android experience and now I have to deal with the Atmos audio dropout issue. I’ve been finding myself reverting back to the Android UI more and more lately because of the subpar viewing experience the ATV has been giving me. I may just end up moving the ATV to a bedroom TV in the future and upgrade to an Nvidia Sheild TV unit for my family room.
Watched an entire movie last night without it doing it. So far so good. *knock on wood*
This was off of the Apple TV app.
I'll try with Netflix content next.
Unfortunately it’s still present for me on Netflix. If anything it’s worse now. The cutouts were every few minutes last night for me.
