Apple today released tvOS 17.1, the first major update to the tvOS 17 operating system that initially came out in September 2023.

tvOS 17.1 can be downloaded using the Settings app on the ‌Apple TV‌. Go to System > Software Update to get the new software. ‌Apple TV‌ owners who have automatic software updates activated will be upgraded to tvOS 17.1 automatically.

The Enhance Dialogue feature first announced in tvOS 17 for the second-generation HomePod has expanded to the original HomePod and the HomePod mini in tvOS 17.1, though the HomePods will also need the HomePod 17.1 software that came out today.

tvOS 17.1 also includes a new favoriting option in the Music app on the ‌Apple TV‌, along with some other minor Music changes.

tvOS updates tend to be minor in scale, focusing on small features and bug fixes rather than notable outward-facing changes. Apple's notes for tvOS 17.1 can be found in its tvOS support document.

Maybe this will fix the Twitch app. The video goes black randomly on VODs. Might be a Twitch issue... might be an OS playback issue. Really annoying either way.

Maybe just affecting UK, but I'm missing the Trailers app! Can they now be accessed via ATV app?

Maybe this update will finally update my lost remote's firmware so I can use the new Find My Remote feature... 😁

i don’t see anything different…

Only these two things:

Does this update fix apple music not displaying whether a track is lossless or dolby atmos or PCM? Previous versions use to display it.

Not true. It also includes a new option for showing the On-Screen Volume Display.

The thing is... I don't see this option.

I'm on 17.1 for a few days now, since I turned on beta updates and probably got the RC, but today my AppleTV says it's up to date. Is the version 21K69 the last?

Mine is also on 21K69 from the RC. I am wondering if the final version released today is the same build as well.

It is only found by my 3rd gen 4k models. They updated fine.

My second gen 4k model is not picking it up, it’s staying stuck at 17.0 currently.

It's amazing that I only have two devices that can run and any of the new software updates out of the six iOS Apple devices that I own, not counting any computers.

Also amazing that my Apple TV which is a 2015 device gets an iOS 17 update versus my iPhone 8 Plus released in 2017 which does not neither my iPhone SE as well.
And Mac Mini 2014 model purchased new from Apple in 2016 stopped receiving updates as well.o_O

This tvOS 17.0 was such a mess. It was in such a state I’d have to unplug it to reset it almost weekly just to get apps to work again. I noticed after 17.1 it immediately force re-downloads every app. Did this happen for anyone else? Never saw that before.

Does anyone know what the public tvOS 17.1 build number is that was released today? I want to know if it’s the same build number as the last RC.
