How come the gays get a gay pride parade and I don't. Where's the gay pride parade for regular style guys
When "regular style" guys are repeatedly singled out for being regular style in a widespread manner, and widely shamed, discriminated against, beaten up, and sometimes tortured and killed, specifically because they are "regular style" and for no other reason, then maybe there will be a reason for them to push back, band together, and march in a parade. But usually, it's those "regular style guys" who are doing most of the shaming, discrimination, beating, torturing, and murdering.

Until that point, of rampant severe discrimination against "regular style guys" for them simply existing, trying to organize a "regular style guy" parade is just going to make them look like the people who responded to the civil rights marches in the 60's, by having their own marches, wearing white robes and hoods. Effectively marching against something, rather than for something.

Would be nice for them to release more wallpapers for everyone, regardless of your sexual preference
Oh they do release new wallpapers for everyone, every single year, with the new iOS release - around the same time that the forum here is busy complaining that Apple has conformed to the latest Unicode standard by implementing new emoji - perhaps that's why you missed it. They also release one or two new bits to mark Pride month, around this time of the year, likely in part because it's shortly before WWDC, when public focus shifts to the next version of iOS.

Can't we just have cool tech products without focusing on sexuality?
Sorry, did you buy the "Gay iPhone 16"? The "iPhone 16 Super Gay Edition"? I didn't know they offered those. I never seen them focus on sexuality.

The general public has no idea Apple has Pride watchbands or Pride wallpaper - they're mostly using the watchband they got with their watch, and one of the default wallpapers or a photo of their child/pet/partner.

You know about it because you read a website that puts up an article about every single press release Apple puts out. The vast majority of people don't do that. I'd hardly call one or two press releases a year, and one watchband out of 20 or so a year, a "focus". The more interesting question might be, why are you so focused on sexuality that one press release a year sets you off.

Rampant severe discrimination ? Wide shame, torture and beatings ? The language used here is over-the-top.

I regretfully concede that "it is impossible to convey sarcasm in writing" is a boring lie that is apparently becoming increasingly true every day

I am a citizen of a western country that is trying to legally mandate conservative christian style conversion therapy as a first line public health defense against the existence of transgender people. It's getting Very Bad very quickly dude

Any company is allowed to choose its causes. The "what about" argument rarely gets us anywhere. You're free to choose a different company more aligned with your priorities if you prefer.

Easy.

The issue here is Apple is selectively choosing its causes. The company says they care so much about marginalized groups rights and support them…but only if it’s in the right country and location. Apple needs to show its support across the board, regardless of locale, if they really cared as much as they say they do. Otherwise, it’s just a cheap money grab that the entire world can see.

More pride watch faces :( honestly, the Apple Watch faces are awful. Let’s hope the next is brings some good ones.
I don't care about them being "pride" faces, but "Pride Harmony" is terrible. Just a jumbled mess. Why won't they allow 3rd party faces? Emerald Sequoia made AMAZING clock faces in their iPhone app, and would probably have been very popular on Apple Watch if Apple had allowed them. Instead they had to shut down because no one is concerned about having cool "watch" faces on your iPhone. What a waste.

Here's an example from this side of the planet.

Heck, here's an example of discrimination in the United States.

Closing your eyes to the reality of the world does not make it go away. Neither does moving the goalpost.
Again, none of this widepsread and rampant. When you start showing data representing those qualities, then I'll buy the claim. I'd particularly like to see the stats concerning beatings, torture and killings. I'm open to changing my mind, but I need the evidence.

And while I personally believe trans people should be able to serve in the military, I don't think anyone can seriously claim service is a civil right. Hell, I was never allowed to serve because I was born with terrible eyesight. There is no constitutional right for anyone to serve in the military.

So let me get this straight. You don't care about evidence of evils presented to you because they're not widespread enough to impress you?

How bad do things have to get for you to care? Genuinely curious.

The issue isn't that civil service is a right, the issue is that preventing someone based on their sexuality or gender identify is a violation of existing civil rights.

Your inability to serve for medical reasons (did you try and get rejected?) is not the same as not being able to even consider applying based on the whims of someone's political agendas.

As for your need to pump up those numbers of beatings, torture and killings how many does it take to trip your empathy bar? A million? Or just one you know?

Precisely this. There was a time when the military kept black people from serving, or segregated them into their own groups, given worse jobs. That was effectively based on political agenda rather than on capability. And was also a bad call.

I find it kind of sad that this has to be in the 'political news' section :(

It’s extraordinarily sad and reflects very poorly on the community.

But… when ones reads some of the replies in the thread, I can see why it has to be in Political.

Putting them on everyone’s devices is indeed imposing.

Why aren’t there backdrops/themes for other communities? I can think of many potential communities — Christians, Jews, people with Autism, disabled people, Veterans, etc. Would you be ok if your device had backdrops/themes available for each of those, and more?

The fixation on sexuality — and ONLY sexuality — is objectively strange. Why aren’t other communities represented?
Let it go, buddy. You clearly have an axe to grind, and your argument is in bad faith. Go out and touch some grass.

Instead of three threads on the sub forum h ok w about a sticky thread?
