Hard to believe it would be a series 3 only update. I mean literally no one has a series 3 these days.
Here’s one more here and it’s working perfectly fine.

And it’s not actually hard to believe it would be a Series 3-only update as Series 3 will not be getting watchOS 9 so it’s probably one of the last updates, barring any security fixes in the future.

It’s right on Apple’s site stating 8.7.1 is only for Series 3. Surprised no has has said this yet, or even mentioned in the article.

It's weird and I am confused. My phone shows an update is available for my Series 4. The update says 8.7. My watch says it's currently on on 8.6. So the update to 8.7 should be available. But when I go to update it says updating will resume once connected to a Wi-Fi Network. Well, I am connected to a Wi-Fi network but I cannot get the update to continue. Any ideas?

Update - So I guess I missed the Watch update to 8.7 in late July. I never got any notification of it being available on my phone. Strange. Now if I could only get the watch to finally update to 8.7 from 8.6 I'd be happy.

Can’t wait for Apple to finally dump the AW3 (and AW4) so they can finally unleash the Apple Watch category. 🤣

For some reason I can't update my series 3, once it tries to verify a pop up comes up saying "Unable to verify update"
Tried restarting my watch and phone and even re paired but nothing seems to work

Does the Series 3 still require unpairing/re-pairing to apply updates, due to its small storage size? That is always a huge headache when updating my wife's watch, but I seem to recall that it was not necessarily with the last few updates.

Apple changed the way the S3 handles updates so that it is not necessary to manually do that anymore. Instead, it automatically manages clearing space during the update process and puts everything back when it's done.

Wow, that's great, and also frustrating that they thought it was acceptable to do it the other way initially. I hope there was at least a good reason.

watchOS ‌8.7.1 can be downloaded for free through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to General > Software Update.

Hello it’s always Free lol.

Ever since 8.7 I’ve started getting unsupported charger errors, where my S3 won’t charge in my Belkin 3-1. A reboot fixes it for a couple days. This also happened a couple years back but imagine this patch fixes this.

Why does MR keep using a photo of a purple Apple Watch which of course doesn’t exist? Unless they know Apple is releasing a purple S8 and they’re trying to give us a hint???

yall didn't even read the second sentence:

"The watchOS 8.7.1 update is only available for Apple Watch Series 3 models, and those who have a newer Apple Watch will not see the update."

"those who have a newer Apple Watch will not see the update."

Probably the last software update for S3 before killing its support completely.
Isn't it weird that they keep selling the S3 up to this day, yet they will not offer major updates for it?
Honestly, I don't get it....

I mean mine has no issues whatsoever but one would assume that if they sell a product they will provide updates for it in the near future...

Hands off the series 4! Still a great watch and a light year away from the S3. It’s essentially the same internals as the current SE, and barely behind the newer models.
