It does not delete messages from your iPhone or Mac Messages app.

It doesn't. The Apple Watch doesn't sync the same way other devices do. Messages are pushed to the watch and that's it. The watch also only keeps the last 30 days of messages. I've stopped managing messages on my watch because of this, since they'll get deleted automatically anyway.

At the 3:12 mark Aaron claims that messages do sync from watch to phone.

Has anyone tested this? I dont want to update until I know.

I can confirm that the iMessages are NOT synched between phone and watch.. Of course if you have iMessage enabled in iCloud they will synch like always.

This was tested using a watch on 9.3 and a phone on 16.2 so maybe if both are on the newest releases it might synch.. Will update my post after updating my phone

I just went to the Messages app on my Apple Watch and found a large number of message threads I've deleted either on my MBP, iPhone, or iPad. Still all there on my Watch, though. Once I cleared those out on my Watch, I deleted a message thread that was still on my other devices, and after about 10 minutes or so, that same thread is still listed everywhere else accept my Watch. I then deleted that same thread on my MBP and within a second or two it disappeared from both my iPad and iPhone. Watch is definitely not syncing for me...

All devices are on current OS/update from yesterday.

Appreciate you both testing that out.

Not sure why people are reporting otherwise.

Watch is on 9.3 and iPhone is on 16.3. Deletions aren't being synced for me. Deleted a conversation on my watch, it still remained on my phone. Deleted a message and conversation on my phone, they still remained on my watch. (I also use Messages in iCloud, but the watch does not support that anyway.)

I feel like this would have been more widely publicized/announced if it was a new feature or "fixed". People have been clamoring for better syncing with the Apple Watch for ages.

If apple ever decides to allow syncing between the watch and other devices for messages I hope they give us the option to disable it too.

As someone who uses both IMAP and POP3 for email I can understand both sides. Some emails I want to sync and some I don't.

Currently I'm glad my watch does not sync with my phone. I'm also glad,as someone else pointed out, that all messages are deleted off the watch after 30 days. That seems to be a good storage management strategy on Apples part.

I noticed this on the RC and now still continues even after rebooting-

Placing my Watch on the charger, it displays the charging animation, come back 30 min later and the battery is almost dead because it’s totally not charging anymore.

I had an issue last week were it wasnt fast charging. After 45 minutes it only added about 25% from 30% to 55%.

Only happened the one time thought. I swapped charging bricks to test if it was the cable. No issues. Switched back and it started fast charging again.

Maybe it wasnt properly seated on the watch when you went to charge. Although I dont know how that could happen since its with very specific magnets.

Has anyone had a issue with the sand sensor, I updated yesterday at 8 pm I have 21hrs standing (with 7 hours sleep last night)

Annoyingly the Mail notification pop-up still uses the first line of the message body rather than the subject (but the actual notification does use the subject). It's been this way since watchOS 9 and it drives me crazy as the first line of the body more often than not isn't enough context to tell me what it's about.

I've filed feedback after 9.1 and 9.2 about this but it's still broken. Maybe it's an intentional change but seems wild to me that they think it's a good idea.

Just the tip if your watch won't update, try updating from the settings on the watch instead of the Watch app on the iPhone. None of my Apple Watches would update from the Watch app. It would either get stuck on "Verifying" or say the update failed.

If you delete a message on your iPhone it should now delete on your Watch. It definitely works for me. Some users report this only works IF you go to “Recently Deleted” on your iPhone and also delete the message there. Some users report the procedure does not work for them. It could be a problem with iCloud for those who find it doesn’t work. BTW, this does not work in the opposite direction. Deleting a message on the Watch does NOT delete the message on your other Apple Devices.

Yeah, I'm not seeing this to be the case at all. If I delete a Message on my iPhone, iPad, or Mac, it's still there on my Watch. Even if I go into "Recently Deleted" and clear that out.

I just tested it again. I've updated to ios16.3 and watch os 9.3. They do not sync. If I get a message and delete it off my phone it stays on my watch and the reverse is the same. I'm not using icloud. Not sure if that makes a difference.

I'd also like to point out that when I say delete a message, I mean the individual text and not the whole conversation thread. On the watch you can only delete the thread but on the phone you can delete either.

Also of note, I've got "Mirror my iPhone" selected, so whether iCloud is on or off, my Watch should still reflect the changes made on my iPhone.

Same!

Im not upset by this. I didnt want what I did on my watch to dictate what happened on my phone. Especially when I though deleting a message thread on my watch deleted the whole thread on my phone.

My watch is on 9.3 and my phone on 16.3 (mirror iPhone enabled) and deleted messages are not removed just like @gank41 and @surfzen21. I don't have iMessage synch enabled in iCloud so I expect the above result, I prefer to delete iMessages separately on each device any change would be unwelcome

update: It is synching, iMessages removed from my phone are also removed from watch even if they are still listed in the "recently deleted" list. Apologies to Mr.Luigi as the info he has given is correct

I DO have iCloud enabled along with the mirroring.. Between them both, you'd think it'd be more accurate. Nope!

I just corrected my post, deleting messages on my phone does delete the message on my watch.. Guess I just didn't wait long enough as it doesn't happen right away

anyone else see a big decline in battery life after downloading 9.3? I just noticed i am down to 12% after coming off charger this morning at usual time. normally would be 60-75% at 2pm.

Glad to hear some are now seeing the feature working. As I mentioned in my initial comment, some users are finding the updated message functionality does not work for them. If you have Messages in your iCloud settings turned on, you might want to try turning this switch OFF, waiting a minute, and turning it back on. BTW, when I delete a message on my iPhone now I get a message that says "Deleting this message will delete it from all your other Apple Devices." For those who are having no success with the new functionality, are you getting this message? If not, hopefully turning Messages in iCloud off and then back on will encourage iCloud to start syncing all your devices again.
