This is not a list of 'companies with the best products', but companies with the 'best name recognition'.

You've never heard of McDonald's or Coca Cola?

It's also about BRAND VALUE. Not only buzz about the Brand or "hearing about it"... lol

I guess you're laughing because it would appear those two companies should be on the top of the list since they've been out longer than most of us here have been alive?

I'd say with more vegans surfacing the planet and more ways to create tasty healthy foods and beverages it might be the reason Micky Dees and Coke are not at the top of the food chain.

What I meant is quite the opposite.

It's awesome to see so many American companies on the list! People can say what they want about the current state of America but we've churned out some awesome stuff.

Given the meaning of this list, then you must mean that American companies have been able to insert themselves everywhere awesomely. As a true infection, yeah.

Firstly before quotes and replies
Good Job Apple! Thumbs up and applause from me keep it up
( insert iOS emotes that I don't get why Mac rumors doesn't support/allow to appear in posts yet/still )

Innovative tech companies going up while companies that unethically create unhealthy products are going down, I like it! i3 :p

I wholeheartedly agree if we could give multiple likes on here you sir or madam would get like spammed from me lol

What now Samsung? Can't copy the success?

If we are being honest Samsung excels at copying anything and everything in mobile except success levels lol

I hope this news about Apple doesn't upset the trolls. ;)

You know it will. I've already seen a few comments here and there ( not just on macrumors ) maybe if/when Apple gets to a point they can finish burying all serious/major competition in salt this will change but not counting on the :apple: Trolls ever stopping

KFC is definitely big overseas. Especially China where it's bigger than McDonald's. It also seems that when you see a story on a nation that just opens it's doors to western business KFC seems to be the first one in. Doesn't hurt that Anthony Bourdain listed it as one of his guilty pleasures either.

Ha. I've hardly ever left the US before, but now I feel like traveling a bit just to try some KFC in exotic (to me) lands.

I actually follow a few fast food brands international pages on Twitter just to see the crazy stuff they serve up. Some of it terrifying (and I'm an adventurous eater) and some of it looks downright delicious.

Ha! Flavoured fizzy sugar water has been booted down to third by the combined might of an evil company that turns you into a product that sniffs information about you and sells it, and a company that has put magical devices into the hands of tens of millions.

IBM, Toyota, Samsung, and GE.

Unrelated to your post: It seems a lot of people are confusing what this list is. Brand value has nothing to do with healthy food (McDonalds) or drink (Coke). This is more about brand recognition and how it enhances the company. There are a number of alcoholic beverage companies and fast food companies on the list.
Not really. Being a top company in brand value sort of implies that these are companies that are well loved by a large number of people. A brand isn't worth much if it's hated by a lot of people. Note that Comcast isn't anywhere on the top 100. If you look at most of the other companies, there are large groups of people who love them or are loyal to them.

Thus, we tend to conclude that this is a list of companies with large fanbases - a positive thing. Contributing to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer is not what most would consider positive. But, they do still have people who love them. Hey, I work in a hospital and I see a large number of healthcare workers including doctors, who knock back Diet Coke after Diet Coke to get through their morning. I would also venture a guess that Silicon Valley programmers contribute a lot to the bottom line of McDonalds and Coca-Cola as well.

Yes, but when you come up with a list, people tend to associate being on the list of 'top' anything to be a positive thing. Contributing to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer is not what most would consider positive. Thus, the reaction you're seeing.
That's why people should RTFA. The F in RTFA stands for freaking, not the other F-word.;) An inability to comprehend an article should not be an excuse. Commenting before reading should be even less of one. I guess I expect more from my fellow MR members.

I clarified what I wrote after you replied, but I was actually saying it was a legit interpretation of the list. It's kind of like when people got all up in arms when Time considered using Osama bin Laden as Person of the Year. Vladimir Putin actually got Person of the Year (2007). The title isn't an honor, but that doesn't matter to people.

The low quality mark of nearly all of these companies products within their respective industries is telling. Even the internet still hasn't provided people with the ability to make educated purchasing choices.

By nearly all, are you referring to only three (Toyota, McDonalds, and VW)? Because 3/10 is not "nearly" anything...

You don't have to be vegan to not want to eat McDonalds.

Not that I completely disagree with you but a list containing JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley sort of knocks your love theory a few steps back. What Interbrand actually uses is: There are three key components in all of our valuations: an analysis of the financial performance of the branded products or services, of the role the brand plays in purchase decisions, and of the brand's competitive strength. Competitive strength is where the likability come in. Still it's only one component, not the be all, end all.

McDonald's and Coca Cola? LOL
They both have very generic products that tons of other companies also sell similar versions of, but they still make huge profits just because they're recognized brands, so I guess that makes their brands valuable. Especially because McDonald's is absolute ****, yet people eat there.

McDonalds and Coca Cola are only going down from here. The world is changing fast and unless those two adapt, they will be left behind.
Adapt to what? If anything, their influence is spreading to third-world countries as the world changes (that is, "Western" culture spreading).

No. The value comes from that and much more. You should read about their methods.
I didn't say "exclusively". So, you say "No.", which presumably means you disagree. Then you agree with me.

It seems like you don't know what to say.

You know what I meant. It seems you have nothing to say.

A health conscious society. People do not look at McDonald's or Coke the same way now as they did ten years ago. Not even close.

It's almost like lord of the rings up there at the top, good magic vs evil ;-).
