Apple Remote App doesn't see ATV while it is asleep?

When I open the Apple TV Remote app, I usually don't see the Apple TV. I have to hunt the physical remote down and wake the box by pressing a button on it. Only then does the Apple TV appear in the app. I thought the point of the Apple TV App was that you didn't need the physical remote? Am I doing something wrong?

I get the same results...

I remembered I had the Apple Remote App the other night and went to use it but realized, I needed the silver one to "turn it on" and so I just kept using the silver remote. I don't see much point in the app. Maybe I am missing something though.

Oddly enough I was able to wake the TV using the remote app last night. At first the app complained it could not connect, then I saw the light come on on the Apple TV and then I tried again and it worked! I need to figure out why it works only some of the time…

so you have your TV connected to come on via the App??

maybe I read that wrong. and sometimes you can get eh AppleTV to come on/wake from sleep with the app...so there's a chance it can work

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, and I have no idea why.

Same here. Even with the Apple TV on, the remote app doesn't see it most of the time anyway.

At least we have a consensus. (sort of) It's gotta be a problem with Bonjour right? School lets out tomorrow for me, so I'll have more time to do some troubleshooting on this.

Ive never had an issue waking my ATV using the App. I normally have to wait about 2-3 seconds before the ATV shows up in the app and once that happens I tap the icon and the ATV wakes up....

I think my problem could be my WiFi.

Currently I have Comcast Xfinity. They have this thing called "xfinitywifi" that allows you to safely login to anywhere that has Xfinity internet which is nice but then my home has its own router with Xfinity password. so, basically at home I have two different WiFi's I can easily connect to and for some stupid reason my phone is now defaulting to the Share Wifi, not my password-protected one. and that could be my issue. I'll have to give it a try tonight ensuring I'm on the right WiFi

That happens to me, too. And I have a few other Apple TV problems as well. I can't figure them out. Good luck! I'll let you know if I hear of any fixes in my other thread.
