I could care less if I get a charger. Have so many already, that I never use.

I'm in the same boat, though if I don't get a charger, and the charger is $19, why is my device not $19 less? That's my issue with it.

(The answer of course is that this is now an extra $19 in revenue per watch and iPhone Apple sells, which is a TON of money.)

So, if this is your first Apple Watch it will cost you extra for a charger?
If you don’t already have a working USB power adapter laying around, or even a spare USB port on a computer, yes. It still includes the cable with the “puck” that actually connects to the watch, just not the adapter that plugs into an outlet.

Apple sent out some surveys to customers along these lines a few months ago to gauge how many people were actually using the adapters that come in the box with their new devices. Given that they’re going ahead with plans to remove the adapter, I’d say it’s reasonable to assume that enough people were just leaving their new adapters in the box because they already had working ones.

I don't buy into the argument that this is a stealth price increase by Apple
They are charging the same for less. Environmental reasons is just a PR move.

I understand not everyone needs these power adapters, but Apple could easily add the power adapter as a BTO option with no additional charge. That way the people that want them can get them, and the people that don't want them, can not get one.

Apple stated that it would be removing the power adapter from Apple Watch boxes due to environmental concerns.
I am sure "environmental concerns" had little to do with it.

Maybe margin concerns.

I guess the extra packaging being thrown in the trash from buying more charging adapters is okay for the environment....

ha, environmental concerns..

Turning the page, There doing well in retail to solve renewable energy.

Apple is now dictating what is "considered" to be environmental issues.. even on its own "environmental" products.

The fact its slipping means they can't be sure anymore their accessories will meet the same standards, as once was.. So they just pull it

What would be Samsung’s spin on removing the power brick? True concern for the environment?

If Samsung removed the power adapter while charging the same amount and said it was concern for the environment, I would believe them even less. I am sure it would be to push that margin a little.

Given the wasteful packaging on the watch and bands - beautiful, but wasteful - its hard to say its because of environmental concerns.

Having a separate foot-long box for the band is crazy. It could literally fit in an envelope/sleeve 2mm larger than the band rather than in a box.

Yeah exactly. It is hard to take their "environmental concerns" seriously when there are plenty of other wasteful examples like the one you mentioned.

I would respect them a lot more if they said that the removal of the power adapter was to help their market cap get $3 trillion.

That they did as reported on Macrumors.
Okay.

Okay.

Good to know, but still doesn't change my opinion on the matter.

Although it is kind of funny that Samsung is copying Apple again.

I know a lot of people have strong feelings against Apple not including a charger with portable/wearable devices going forward, but how would you feel if you purchased your new (charger-less) iPhone, got to checkout and found that Apple had automatically added one to your basket and charged you for it, and you couldn't delete it, regardless of whether you wanted a charger or not? Because that's effectively what the situation is now - you're paying for a charger whether you want it or not. I don't buy into the argument that this is a stealth price increase by Apple - like all successful retail companies, they are experts in knowing how much consumers will pay for a new model iPhone regardless of what extras are in the box, and pricing their products accordingly.

Well that's not really true, seeing that the price doesn't change for the apple watch if you compare previously with charger and now without charger.. Apple is not giving you back money for accepting the product without a charger.. in your example it will be more similar to expecting to pay $999 for iPhone with charger, go to check out and find that you're still paying $999 even without a charger.. Why take it out and not subtract the charger price? Shouldn't it be $980? i'm effectively paying more now..

So it's a rather dick move to say it's included during launch, then suddenly take it away 1 week later without adjusting the price correctly. Note this is different from the other series 6 which was announced not to have the charger from launch..

Good. Revisiting old boxes is like finding a surprise power adapter/cable or earpods. Two of which you can't even resell at a good price.

Easier to chalk it up as being ALL-IN on their attitude towards environment regardless how overpriced any gear is.

Guess I am the only one who always sold or gave away older gadgets and now have exactly 1 power brick per gadget lying around. Which is one, from my iPhone.

It said a charger was included when I ordered my Edition last week so there better be one included when it arrives tomorrow.
Just arrived and it has the charger in the box.

I got a titanium version with a cord, power adopter and a spare (or default) low-end Apple watch strap. Thinking the box versions with power adapter included, etc. are rare collectors' items ... probably worth the price of a Tesla 3 already.

Apple: We care about the environment, we're removing wasteful 5W adapter no one wants!

courage

Also Apple: Rich people who bought the most expensive Apple Watch models need free adapters!
Also Apple: You must return both watch and bands if the Solo Loops don't fit! (Even though watch is perfectly fine)
Also Apple: Replacing a MacBook screen due to staingate issue requires replacing the complete screen assembly! (Even though the actual LCD screen behind the crap coating is completely good and functional)

wow so so much courage

It just shows how hypocritical about the environment these big companies are.

I personally do not care if Apple still includes power adapters in the more expensive AW models, they cost more, so it isn't unusual for them to include more.

But the hypocrisy is so obvious, not sure how anyone could say this really has anything to do with Apple's environmental concerns.

Apple should have been quiet about the removal, or just be honest and say it was to increase their profit margins.

I disagree. Based on your biases the hypocrisy will be obvious or not. (Yes I know one can like apple products and still criticize the corporation).

My own view it’s a mix of environment and not raising prices.
