Apple Removes Civil War Games From App Store Over Confederate Flag Usage [Updated]

It's amazing that we're all sitting by, like sheep, watching businesses like Apple rewrite American History so as not to offend. It's like Bennifer Affleck telling PBS to censor out the part of the Ancestry show that revealed his ancestors owned slaves. I mean, I'm sure he thought, "Hell, I'm Batman! I can't be related to slave owners!!"

Make a game where your avatar represents an olympic athlete and compete against others to see who can change their gender the fastest and come out of the closet...then you'll be pushed to the top of the list. But the Confederacy?!?! God forbid!!!! Even if they're the bad guys, the fact that a game even dare to mention that horrible part of our history is enough to ban them from the App Store indefinitely.

I'm sickened by this crap. It almost makes me want to jump ship and buy a Galaxy Note and a Surface Pro 3. Almost...but not quite. I mean, politics is one thing. But lousy products? That's another thing altogether. Just keep making cool gadgets, Apple, and most of us will tolerate your rewriting of American history. But if the hardware goes south, you can forget it. Yeah, I know...I'm one of the sheep who's sitting by letting Apple do what they do...but what can I say? I'm just a dumb consumer who got lost in the late 1980s in Steve Jobs' reality distortion field and I haven't found my way out yet!

This is so ridiculous it's not even funny. Of course it doesn't surprise me that Tim Cook's Apple would be doing this. But unless these apps were specifically promoting racism they shouldn't be removed. And if they were how in the heck did they make it onto the App Store in the first place?!?

That is ridiculous! So the Civil War never happened? It is a huge part of our history.

Okay, now that we are down this slippery slop...

Please remove the MLB App(s) for the racist dipiction of the Native Americans on the Cleveland Indians Logo. Remove the NFL App(s) for the Washington Redskins. Remove anything with state flags that have dipictions of Native Americans on them (Massachusetts).

Well they're not really comparable...... You've listed holy books. The confederate flag is not a holy book, its an offensive symbol of oppression as far as some are concerned.

Although I can't see why they've removed the games..... at the end of the day, they're just games using the flags to represent sides, not to make a social and racial commentary on modern day life.

I think apple are just playing it safe incase they get a knee-jerk reaction from their core purchasers who tend to be liberals that will jump on any old bandwagon going.

I used to follow the logic that "guns don't kill people, people do." I've since changed that to "too many guns kill people." There are just too many guns around, especially handguns. A moratorium on new handgun import/production in this country would be a great start, and anyone who wants to can easily buy any one of the 114,000,000 handguns in America, just no new production. But I'm not dictator so that's not going to happen anytime soon.

But back to the topic at hand, this Apple decision is pure stupid.

Let's all head to the library and burn Civil War history books! But seriously, I am all for taking down the confederate flag that is being flown. The fact that it is still being flown is an embarrassment to this country. But these are games that depict a different era. Unless they overtly glorify the Confederacy, I don't see why they should be removed.

And, yes. Everything is valuable based on a certain circumstance. Without it, even a good thing could turn to bad thing.

I doubt if putting such a flag could cause "significant", "obvious", and "negative" impact to the public.

ROFL. Really Apple? Guess we should remove all symbols/flags/imagery from all losing sides of previous wars, because all those sides hated people too. Nazi flags, Rising suns, British red coats, Native American :p

This game depicts re-creation of historical wars. We are going to pretend that the confederacy didn't exist now? ROFLcopter.

There are many confederate flags, and many different meanings. And the "confederate" flag has many meanings as well, even now.

In the case of Apple, the flag is used in historical context and was part of the Civil War. To remove it from all Civil War titles is the equivalent of revisionist history.

German here. It's indeed censored in every game. Mostly it's just a big black point in the middle of the flag.

And if you think this is ridicoulous... In command&conquer you don't see humans fighting. Only cyborgs because real people would be too violent.

Being Jewish, I think they should remove Wolfenstein 3D from the entire App Store, not just in certain markets. They should also remove gun games. Oh and we were in a war with the Japanese...remove any game with the Japanese flag in it. Remove Kim Kardashian's game too, as it promotes someone that got famous due to a sex tape. In fact, just get rid of all games that could cause controversy.

I'm gonna go download Frozen Freefall.
