Theo and Eduardo?

Since when do Arsenal players send information to Mac Rumors?

Yeah stupid joke that only football fans would understand. :)

Another sad day in Apple history. 1080p will be missed.

Here's hoping they bring in 1440p or 1800p trailers to replace them.

Interesting; I haven't actually seen the download option work for some time; when I clicked it it'd just open up QuickTime Player instead of actually downloading the file. If multiple people are affected then it's possible that Apple removed the download option to reduce support calls.

I have NO idea why they aren't using HTML5 on their trailers site. How is QuickTime any different than Flash here? It's not!

Doesn't HTML5 just use QuickTime internally anyway?

I have an AWESOME way I watch hot new trailers on an ENORMOUS screen. I go to the cinema. When I want to watch a less impressive version... YouTube.

Can't believe this. Apple was the last official site out there providing high-quality, 1080p encodes. Truly don't understand why they'd stop. As a huge movie fan, it sucks that 1080p trailers have just become an "endangered species," so to speak. They'll definitely be more scarce, and we'll only be able to get them from third-party sites like HD-Trailers now. Wasn't technology like this supposed to be moving the other way?

A free service that has to close to zero returns for Apple and will be missed by only a fraction of a fraction of a percent of Apple customers. Why would Apple keep putting any money in this?

The trailer site was set up to showcase Quicktime. There is close to zero marketing value for Apple in this anymore. Showing Apple's affinity to the arts in regard to movies is fully taken care of by the iTunes Store.

It's like those Apple stickers they've shipped with every Mac, at some point the added value by such things tends to pretty exactly zero.

"Trailers uploaded to the site after an approximate date of May 22"

Is that a fancy way of saying "yesterday?" :D

Or it's a way of making it meaningful whenever you read it....

Everyone on Macrumours' editorial staff should be smacked down whenever they use a headline like "Apple to announce XX tomorrow". On average, it will be incorrect and confusing in 12 hours.

Unfortunately knowing Apple, 1080p trailer streaming may end up being a feature exclusive to the AppleTV.

Quicktime does not flash.

(Quicktime is almost exclusively used only for video content, not for animated graphics and flashing banner ads.)

It is not clear at this point why Apple has begun phasing out movie trailer downloads, but we have contacted the company for more information.

I find this very curious indeed. I hope that MacRumors can get a statement from Apple.

I think what Eminem means is that it's still a browser plugin. Something they should have moved beyond by now.

It'll be one of the hundreds of new "features" in IOS 7

1080p trailers. :p

Never knew Apple doing trailers was a thing. Page 2 surely?

Absolutely, I am refreshing page one to get maybe some leaks on a possible mac pro and rmbp release at the wwdc, and I get a news item about trailers on apple's site? Wtf?

True. Could also be silly pressure from the studios to not want their content "owned" on devices but rather just streamed from providers.

Having worked in news before, I know that many cable/tv stations and studios put a lot of restrictions on how you can present their materials, for how long, etc.

I bet this is it. Most movie studios also own/produce tv shows. Could be related.

Or did anyone check if they were Sony? Maybe a give and take for iRadio?

Probably some silly copyright issue, to keep people from taking high-res screen captures or something. Or the distributors simply want to drive more traffic to their own sites to view higher quality. I doubt Apple is driving this.

For years and I means years before youtube existed Apple Trailers was the definitive spot to see and download a quality trailer. No one could match the quality. Maybe I'm getting old or something but trust me it was the place.

This sucks, I used to do this all the time to watch trailers on a TV.

qt player

Perhaps it's time Apple phased out Quicktime? My experience of streaming Quicktime video has never been good, while Netflix, Youtube and iPlayer all deliver reliable 720p streaming over a comparable connection.

it has always worked well for me. i'll definitely miss the 1080. watching 720 on a 27" display isn't quite the same...

Push high res screens then cut high res media from your sites...

I can see the future, and it's very pixelated.

We are slowly moving towards a world where we can't download anything for our own safe keeping. It's all stream, stream, stream, and the content producers want to retain all control.

Even now, many of the videos you DO download are DRM-encumbered. Look at movies and TV shows from iTunes. All DRMed. They're never really yours since your computer needs "permission" from Apple to play them.

Whenever an app comes out that allows people to download YouTube videos, YouTube tries to get it removed. Look what happened to Microsoft's YouTube client for Windows phone.

Soon we won't be allowed to keep local copies of anything anymore. It's terrible, and sadly the number of people who mind are in the minority so this will just keep happening.
