I just checked . Apple Iphone 14/14 pro will have physical sim card support in India. Check here - https://www.apple.com/in/iphone/compare/ . So basically , apple want us to buy different phone to use in US and another , when travel outside. This is ******** , crappy move by APPLE.

No, Apple just is confident in eSIM and since the major carriers in the US already support it they decided to take this action there and pressure all their non US partners to get their eSIMs ready.

India already has eSIM providers. I don’t know how the process works there but I am sure they will adapt to be able to serve future iPhone users.

I was about to order iPhone 14 pro max, new Watch and Airpods Pro. Now without a physical slot I do not order any of them. I travel a lot.
May be you have different opinion, but for me Apple is over. i switch to Galaxy S23 , hope they in Samsung have brain not to follow Apple.
You don’t need to get the pro version you can get the regular 14 or the iPhone 14 Plus. The lower models still have the SIM tray

EDIT** not only did I misread the article but I completely didn’t even pay attention to the headline. I just saw something about the esims 😂 So yes unfortunately for some, physical Sims are gone

I just looked around and there are very few counries that do not offer esims so what's the beef. Can you name a country that does not support esim technology???

I am actually sure more don’t than do but I also expect more to do than don’t within the next 12 months.

If you have older unlocked iPhone. just keep it for back up. Can be handy when you travel abroad. For a shorter duration travel to abroad; physical SIM(pre-paid) support in phone is must in many countries for the next 3-5 years.

When Sprint and VZW were full-on CDMA, there was no SIM cards. IMEI transfers were a simple scan and execute. We kind of went backwards with SIM in the US when that was depreciated for LTE.

Also iPhone 14 supports dual-SIM. The way TM works is say you came from another country, you just download a prepaid Tmobile eSIM app in the store and sign up right in the app. No need to find some 7-11.

Absolute dick move by apple, especially if you are on a prepaid network. Visible is pretty much the only prepaid that supports e-sim and it's a giant cluster. My cousins use it and its a giant headache trying to swap phones or troubleshoot stuff.
Well you can still get the regular iPhone 14 or the iPhone 14+ they still have sim trays

The outrage in this thread is hilarious. This is a big step forward, the SIM card slot was the biggest waste of space inside the phone. The few carriers that don’t support eSIM will now be forced to or they’ll lose business. You guys will get over it. Similar outrage when Apple got rid of the floppy disk drive, or the archaic USB ports, both genius moves in hindsight. :)

Just because you think it is fine, you do not represent people that go places where eSim is not an option.

Go check reddit, many people like me that go places where eSim service is ONLY offered on a post paid contract, so bringing an iPhone 14 there makes it the nicest iPod Touch you ever had, unless you can somehow quality for a 1 or 2 year commitment with a carrier to use the device for the few weeks you might be there,

So no, do not assume that things are just fine because you won't be effected by this.

Rome isn't burning. This is the same thing when Apple Watch first got it's own eSIM, some carriers were ready to support day one, some just a few months later.

In my case, the beef is that both carriers offering eSim are postpaid, so you need a contract to use them.
For someone in the country for a few days or weeks, what does that eSim availability do for them?

Apple today announced that all iPhone 14 models sold in the U.S. do not have a built-in SIM card tray and will rely entirely on eSIM technology.

An eSIM is a digital SIM that allows users to activate a cellular plan without having to use a physical nano-SIM card. eSIM availability is rapidly expanding, but the technology is still not available in all countries, which explains why iPhone 14 models will remain available with a SIM card tray outside of the U.S. for now.

Read our iPhone 14 announcement coverage for more details about the devices.

Why are people complaining about this? Why would you want to leave the best country?

I honestly feel you. My home country got no carriers with eSIM support and this is very annoying as I will keep a backup phone for that but I also do support the move because it will force every single carrier partnered with Apple to get their **** together and not just do eSIM but make the process simple ASAP.

And they will be forced to change the way they work soon because they either open it up to all or those wanting to go prepaid will just use their competitors.

I think people need to keep in mind the normal use case. For the majority of users, there is zero impact. For those who are impacted, the impacts should not last long, hopefully.

Let’s celebrate the good news of today, rather than constantly digging for something bad.

Not for someone in the USA who stays here, for them who cares. Get an eSim if you have a postpaid plan.

There are benefits like the carrier no longer being able to blame bad service on the sim card for example.

But for those who travel this is a dealbreaker, especially because there are many places that do NOT offer prepaid eSim service, and if you go somewhere for a few weeks, you will be paying a HUGE amount of cash to your carrier.

Some are worse than others.

Verizon gives you for $10, 500 MB of data, then after that 500MB is another $10.

if you were not careful, or heaven forbid your phone downloaded updates and chewed through a few gigs you are adding on potentially hundreds to your vacation.

But yea, if you are in the USA and have a plan I agree, stop whining.

Guess we'll see them convert soon enough; let's hope Canada drops physical SIMs too

Everyone is going to convert if they haven't already, Apple Watch has had eSIM since 2017. This isn't some new revelation.

Disposable SIMs are wasteful to the environment, and it was kind of silly to have to go the store to get a new one for even the same carrier. Just like the Sprint to T-Mobile conversion.

This is going to differ so bad between carriers so we will have to wait to see how each carrier adapts but T-Mobile being a launcher partner, if your current SIM is eSIM then when you setup your new iPhone even if not bought from T-Mobile/unlocked, it will ask if you would like to transfer your number to this device and it will handle the process for you. It may ask for your T-Mobile account details though.

Curious how it will work when one's current SIM is physical though, as mine is.
This is not a weird scenario, Apple really should have had FAQs for each of the American carrier partners ready to go now; I have a feeling next Friday will be a sh*tshow.

No SIM tray is on another level of dumb, especially when you consider how ubiquitous iPhone use is in places where eSIM is nonexistent.

In the case of the PH, it is a duopoly. Two major carriers, neither with prepaid eSim.

Right now traveling will be a little tougher, yes but you definitely shouldn’t be dependent on Verizon for traveling.

Right now you can check if the local carrier in the country you are heading to offers prepaid eSIMs. Some do even if they don’t advertise it.

You can also use eSIM services like Airalo. Check esimdb.com for even more.

Expect all carriers to adapt though. That if they want to keep being Apple partners and be able to carry future iPhones.
