It's not entirely like that, Apple pulling apps off the store is still a rare occurrence. They tick a lot of boxes before an app goes into the store, there's not so much of an express approval especially for a brand new app.

Apps being pulled still makes the news around here, so you see how rare it is.

That's to be expected. Most apps don't push the boundaries of the App Store T&Cs, so apps being approved and then removed are likely to be rare.

Then they have to expect these situations to crop up. Obviously, they are still suffering from growing pains in this arena and the situation, while it has improved (we get less of these stories nowadays), still isn't quite perfect yet.

But I doubt they would do such a process, that's just asking for bad publicity. You want to have as little as possible of these "Approved... and now it's not" situations, so unfortunately, the best way to do so remains direct rejections.

Obviously, Apple had an issue after the developer opened subscriptions. How much of it is poor communication on Apple's part ? How much of it is poor understanding on Big Fish's part ? Who knows. There's 2 sides to every story, we have 1.

Apple have been getting bad publicity about their approval process almost from Day 1, so they are to some extent between a rock and a hard place. They may have decided that the bad publicity from occasional app withdrawals is 'less bad' than the bad publicity of every single app approval taking longer (because they'd require legal advice, or escalation to management for commercial decisions).

As you say though, it's all just speculation at this point.

The Bible is good? News to me.

Yes, the Bible is good! It is good to justify all your deeds. You just have to say that it is God's will. Quote the Bible and all what you'll do will become holy.

I will never rent any games. They can always try to get more money from us. it just depends if it is worth it.

Don't mess with Apple's business or you'll be smashed like a fly. I'm glad for not having any AppStore-dependent device.

Waiting for "unlikes" from fanboy squad...

Apple, Steve is gone you can do things Differently now. Its not like your not flush in money not to experiment doing things a little different. :(

----------

So instead of selling me some game which I can play forever, they want to charge me rent every month? As a consumer, why should I care about subscription games?

The sheep have spoken.

Don't mess with Apple's business or you'll be smashed like a fly.

How was this app "messing with Apple's business"?

Subscriptions were still entitled to the usual 30% app store commission, so AFAIK Apple only loses out from this.

I'm amazed at the negative comments here, spoken in complete ignorance of how the App Store works, of how Apple treats us (developers), and this particular situation specifically.

You guys that hate Apple so much should really just switch to Android. You will be much happier.

As if there wasn't enough reasons to hate Apple already.

You belong in a different habitat: http://androidforums.com/

From the actual Bloomberg article:

We were notified that the app was removed,” said Paul Thelen, founder of Big Fish, a game publisher in Seattle. The app had been available since Nov. 18, he said. “We’re trying to follow up with Apple to try to figure out what happened.”

I'm pretty sure the notification Big Fish received from Apple included at least a general reason why the app was pulled, so I don't buy this "Apple didn't tell them anything" line that some people have twisted this quote into.

Maybe it didn't have all the detail they wanted or Big Fish disagree with it, but that's another thing. Didn't stop them from rushing to the media with it though.

Correct if I'm wrong but for some rejections, all you get is a simple message that says the app is now rejected, with no reason at all.

People are allowed to disagree with their policies, I find that some developers have good reason to hate the policies.Shouldn't stop them from making apps for the most profitable app store.

Except the people posting here are not developers affected by any of this, and they are posting in complete ignorance of the actual processes.

Obviously I'm not aware of all rejection messages, but in all reported issues I've seen so far the developer was never left wondering why their app was pulled.

But if someone else knows differently please post.

Everyone claims they work closely with Apple. They don't. I speak from being a former member of Apple. Very few work closely with Apple, period.

Exactly, and Big Fish games are, well, big boys in the games market (even hold several patent applications) - they know very well how to play this game.

Even in their statements they are being very careful, e.g. saying "Apple had even seen the app's press release before it went out earlier today" and not that Apple had accepted or even discussed their PR, which is odd because it was a big change in how the app store works.

I can make up a PR claiming my app "is the best ever and changes the app store model completely", email it to some Apple address and state Apple "saw it". Not saying that's what happened here, but could very well be the case given the particular wording they choose to use.

*LTD*, what is it exactly that motivates you to be so defensive of a massive corporation?

Facts are facts, irrespective of brand loyalties.

It might be better to question the motives of the individual I responded to, rather than mine. Just sayin . . .

Facts become useless when bias plays a role. Especially when they were chosen from millions others, the facts can be misleading.

I cannot disagree with you

but that part was unnecessary

Apple again trying to scare developers off for mysterious reasons..

Or not.

It is possible that the 'removal' is nothing more than some kind of computer glitch which triggers an auto email to the developer email address on file. But since Cupe is taking the week off for Thanksgiving (something MR posted about like a month ago), there's no one to answer the request for comment because there are no humans in the office.

This. I'm glad it got pulled. I do have to say though its goofy Apple approved it then took it away. I bet something went on that we don't know about.

I'm just speculating but perhaps the developer wasn't 100% up front about what all this subscription status entailed?

Analysts tend to post opinions more than facts. Not that I'm challenging your argument, I couldn't care much for this topic to be honest. I'm simply just stating that if you find one analyst that says one thing, you can probably find another that says the exact opposite.

Apps being pulled is a daily, if not hourly occourance.

Considering the number of times those apps turn out to be foreign language ripoffs of someone else's IP, dups of basically the same game that are then bought in scads using 'fake' apple ids and sometimes even stolen credit card accounts etc. I don't really mind that issue.

It is rare for someone to get approved and yanked without any reason. And I suspect that the developers aren't speaking up because either they were told exactly why or they were trying to slip something by Apple and they know they got caught. The media however just loves to hype all the removals up because the only thing that gets more hits than those dumb Twilight kids and their trumped up romance is Apple being in Big Bad Bully mode

Reality doesn't change based on who's telling you about it.

Facts can be marshalled for any purpose. It doesn't change what they are, however.

Apple sitting atop customer satisfaction reports in nearly all areas is common knowledge. To deny it is a demonstration of a) ignorance, or b) trolling.

It doesn't matter whether the facts are served up on a silver platter or a wooden plate. They still communicate what they communicate.

It's a matter of knowing which one is right.

Never denied it either but the way you portray your facts only gives positive light to Apple avoiding all articles giving bad press about Apple. Using your ''facts'' you make it seem like Apple is the perfect company with 0 flaw. There are reasons why people can hate Apple.

No. Andriod 4.0 is IOS 0.0.4

Now you sound so much better than the troll
