Great news!
Even if at times it was a bit soapy I love the "space exploration - What if".
Production value is really good too, looks awesome.
Even learned a few things about the real space race too.

Wonder if they eventually go from the alternate past into an alternate future beyond 2020, time wise.
I would bet on it. The show started in the 60s and they’re now into the 80s in just the second season. They’re not wasting any time leaping ahead. My guess is that this sets the foundation for a future/space show property that builds up a mythos into a universe of shows like Star Trek. Instead of acquiring an established property, Apple is building their own.

I really wanted to like this show but it’s just so dull. And the premise, “What if America had lost the space race?” might be an interesting thought experiment, but it isn’t all that interesting in practice. The actual space race was way more entertaining. This show is like an answer to a question nobody asked.
I'm not sure America actually did win the space race. They were the first to the moon, but that's about it. Or is that where the finish line was according to the Americans?

For example, I don’t care who you are, you do *not* keep nuclear bomb secrets in a box at home or share them with your friend, even if he has a Top Secret clearance, or pass them on to your daughter. There is no version of history in which that makes sense.
You know it's not real don't you?
Just Great! It launches after my subscription has expired!
Hmmm. Do you think that was deliberate? I reckon that's why free subs has been extended to February.

It can depend on the definition of the race. There can be a race simply to be the fist to do something. There can be a race to be first to get the most and/or the best. There can be some combination of all of those, especially when applied to things that have some political and/or other similar type of impact. In this sort of scenario the race to get to space first was something that US lost, while the race to be fist to walk somewhere outside of the Earth is something that US won.

My point exactly. The race is whoever wants to decide what it is. It could also be the first country to send an animal or a human to space. Or in the case of US rhetoric, the first to get humans to the moon. I find this whole race thing moot anyway (meaningless argument). For All Mankind is a good drama, expertly filmed that's it.

Wait. Just hang onto yourself here! There are people that don't know about Moonage Daydream? It ain't easy to believe that. Give it five years and maybe it'll sink in.

On OMR Vinyl, it's almost good enough to be someone's soul love.
Well, I was raised more in a funk music household than a rock one. I guess I'll have a serious talk with my father about this next time 😂

Absolutely loved season 1 of For All Mankind, so very happy about this. Am also loving The Right Stuff - sure there is some added drama, but it's basically following historic events.

I see the premise of the show as a warning for America, now, not to stop fighting for greatness in a world that is advancing technologically. We need those fantastic young minds to keep pushing ahead even when it's not the "cool" thing in today's society.

I don't feel as though this show would be very plausible even in the 90s it was nearly impossible to get a flight position as a female in the 80s you could not fly armed before that getting jet engine experience outside of the commercial sector would be highly unlikely. Not only that but I am sure there would be a lot of issues at the time with a minority going to space as well. I tried for an 11F position a decade ago and ended up in cyber after not being selected I know I outperformed some of my male colleagues that got it and I am still salty over it if you couldn't tell lol.
I mean, that's kinda the point isn't it? It's *about* things being different!

idk how Apple can take a subject like space exploration and make it boring, but there ya go
Definitely, this show is not for everybody...
If it bores you, then switch to another show.
The show has nothing boring in it if you understand what's all about it, and you have an idea of what was really happening in the world during those years and compare it with how the show creates this alternated reality.

Plus, the Soundtrack is excellent!

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind".

Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind".

What do these words mean?

It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

You realize that they cribbed the women astronauts from reality. There WAS a group of women who passed ALL the same physical tests as men. Cobb was one of those women. Given that, the entire idea of the Soviets mocking the 'freedom and equality' of the United States makes perfect sense - and what you see on the screen is a plausible reaction to that.
