What's this like for someone that doesn't like sport at all? I saw the trailer and noticed that a lot of it was filmed around where I live which could be fun but I have less than zero interest in any kind of sport and neither does the wife.

I don’t like sports at all and really really enjoyed this show. I think it’s really well done. It’s more like an office based comedy but the office happens to be a sports venue.

Entertainment Weekly's review does a pretty good job capturing my sentiment.
Ted Lasso has no right to be this funny. It’s got a one-joke premise, built around a character created for NBC Sports back in 2013. But the new Apple TV+ comedy — starring Jason Sudeikis as a soccer neophyte hired to coach a football club in the U.K. — is a wonderfully amusing, surprisingly thoughtful sports sitcom that is, of course, not really about sports at all.

I didn't have high expectations, but this show had me laughing out loud. It is well written and well executed. I just really don't like the traditional weekly episode release.

I didn’t even realize there was a first season. I’m not a sports nut but this sounds amusing. I’ll save it for some binge watching this fall.

This is gonna be my thing for evenings pretty soon.... as the days grow ever shorter and I need more comedy in my life past how I function early in the morning trying to make coffee in the damn dark.

I'm generally a fan of Apple TV+ offerings, just don't make enough time for them. That's my summer self though.

I gave it a try but the pandering girl power opening scene was so childish I turned it off. No thanks. I really wish Apple hadn‘t taken this route with their content. Everything has a try hard “message” forced in.

I'm only 3 episodes in and this is my favorite ATV+ show so far! No need to be into soccer (I'm not even sure if Richmond is a real team/place? Gotta Google that) it's just compelling, human-centered story-telling. Love it.

Really good show. AppleTV is best streaming value imho, and is on its way to being next HBO.

That may seem out of this world but if you follow the EPL (or for that matter several other leagues) you would be surprised at the number of top managers with no experience and almost no qualifications whatsoever.
Maybe 20 years ago, but these days it's a requirement to have a UEFA Pro licence. As for experience, the only standouts given a top level job are Solskjær and Lampard, two ex-players with pitiful CVs but who were appointed in desperation.

As for the show, surprised to find I quite liked it or didn't hate it at least. It's not clever and won't trouble the BAFTA committee, but aside from a few scenes, it didn't induce the usual cringe you normally get from these unoriginal "fish out of water" comedies. Yes it's stuffed with tired stereotypes, but the writing is on point and compared with the almost identical but truly horrific show with David Schwimmer (NSA meets GCHQ) that Sky aired earlier this year (with the same kit man "comic" actor) it's half decent. Waiting for Anthony Head as the ex-husband/owner to make an appearance though.

It's set in Richmond-upon-Thames, an affluent suburb of SW London. The club is entirely fictional, and IRL the area is much more a hotbed of egg-chasing (rugby) than football/soccer.

I got the 1-year free subscription when I purchased an iPad right at the beginning of Covid but haven't been tempted to watch anything on offer. A couple of rainy days so I watched and Greyhound and it was actually good. Then I saw the trailer for Ted Lasso and thought "Why not?"
I binged the 3 episodes and was left hungry for more. It seems very predictable but it is still entertaining and makes me want to keep watching. Can't wait for the next few episodes.

I love this show, probably more so because it was shot at Crystal Palace FC, my home team, weird watching a program that’s broadcasting familiar images of my local club and roads that was for most of my life my home.

Amusing that the first episode Richmond FC play a match against the very club it’s filmed at. All the filming takes place in and around selhurst park, CPFC’s home ground. Crystal Palace play in the premier league for those of you who don’t know, arguably the best Football league in the world, playing teams like Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool etc.

Richmond is up the road and as already mentioned more aligned to Rugby (very close to Twickenham, home of the England Ruby team) then Football.

Funny casting too to see Jeremy Swift (Higgins) again. I couldn't place him after watching the first three episodes until looking him up and realizing he was Spratt on Downton Abbey.
