Did you buy it from an authorised Apple reseller online?

An Apple Store will replace or repair any device bought from an authorised reseller. If it is not, your contract is with the store where you bought it from.

It was the on-line Apple store. In store, they refused to refund or replace it.

At our house we have had strange behavior (semi-drops, but slowness) from our wifi, but its happening on our iPad 2, iPad (the 3rd), all our iPhones, MacBook Pro and Mini.

Pretty sure it's the AirPort router. :(

On the same topic, does anyone else's AirPort Extreme base station hiss? When I'm downloading a file there's an audible hiss coming from it.

my new iPad reaches further than my old iPad 2 did. I only got one bar of wifi in my bonus room with the iPad 2 when I lost my upstairs router. The new iPad gets full signal.

My wif-fi is fine so far, but it took me 15 tries to bluetooth pair to an Apple BT keyboard I got with my mac. Then, once I finally could pair it, not all the keys worked. Some letters and 7-8-9 would not output anything.

I wonder if bluetooth is an issue?

yep

Yep, I noticed this pretty early on and it is one of the reasons I returned my ipad 3 VZN LTE last week for refund. compared to my ipad 2, the ipad 3 wouldn't hold as strong a signal in various places in my house in various situations. It DOES seem that the orientation and how one held it, not GRIPPING or squeezing, but simply holding it in landscape in locations of course farther away from the from the airport express AP, the signal would go to 1 or none sometimes, whereas the ipad 2 on the same IOS version would still be strong and not lose signal.

Since there is no supply problem, it seemed better to return and rebuy once it gets all ironed out.

The interesting thing here is that they say (some) WiFi Only iPad 3 models are getting poor reception.

I say interesting because my 4G iPad3 is actually getting WAY better reception. I've notice 2 to 3 times as many available networks (compared to my 3G iPad 3) and with more bars.

I didn't really think much about it since I figured it was across the board.

What's the matter with apple and WIFI?

My first iPad 1 had to be replaced because I couldn't connect with any network outside my house or an apple store; my first macbook (which is still the same one I currently own) had to be taken in the second month of use for the "airport card not installed" message popping up. If my screen was angled at a 60* angle, then the card would show during boot up, if the screen was opened all the way, the card would not show up as installed. (yeah, believe it). Is it the aluminum, the plastic, the chip? Or is the software?

After they fixed the problem, I went a year without any problems, but since I installed OS X Lion last year, I am constantly having to change network settings, making a new location, and renewing the settings - every single time to be able to use WIFI. I've tried every fix on the forums, If anybody has any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear it....

This is gonna be another "your just nitpicking" debate from the fan boys!

In fact, it's just the oppostive. It's the fan boys who are doing the nitpicking! They wanted the best, they paid for the best, and they expect the best!

Oh, and as to the light bulb analogy... I'll bet most of those concerned about heat understand your point, but this is supposed to be a handheld, laptop device! It's supposed to run cool; it really shouldn't be running over 110 degrees or be too hot to handle comfortably... If this is indeed a widespread issue, then a different insulation or heat dispersion was called for.

Caution! The 'bars' on any device are not calibrated to any standard. Having 5-bars on one devise in no way indicates that it's signal is any better then a device showing only 4-bars. The number of bars showing can only be compared to the number of bars showing on the same device. Also, there's a delay or buffering in the Bar display to prevent it from flickering or going up and down rapidly.

As with the % charge display, it's set to provide a general overview of conditions instead of a confusing fluctuation of readings.

Excuse me? My Dell laptop should then fall into the same category. I used it on my diningroom table a few months back and it turned the blond wood dark brown and the varnish bubbled. I use my iPad on my lap all day and it never even gets warm. iPads don't have a heat problem, at least mine doesn't.

As with any electrical appliance, if you run it under conditions that cause excessive heat, you should take necessary precautions to keep it cool. I purchased a cooling fan to use with my Dell laptop that sits between the tabletop and computer bottom. We don't expect or demand that Dell starts creating cooler running laptops, so we shouldn't expect it from Apple either.

Every version of the iPad has had worse wifi reception than a typical computer. It's a low power mobile wifi chip, and it's surrounded on 3 sides by signal-blocking aluminum.

Since when did aluminum block signals? Antennae are made of aluminum.

Yeah, my flip-phone sometimes showed full bars but then said "No Service" when I tried to call.

And for the % charge, I think it's accurate. Doesn't it check based on the voltage the battery is outputting? It may do some averaging to make it smoother, but I doubt it can ever be more than 2% off.

You can't check signal strength based on the bars; it's too inaccurate. Try doing a few speed tests on each one.

This isn't a good excuse for the iPad to heat up. Does the new iPad use a lot more electricity to run? You could calculate how much higher the operating temperature should be when you use the iPad (3) instead of the iPad 2, but I can guess right now that it is reported to heat up more than this calculation would give you. It's not just from more electricity usage.

But I doubt this is a real problem. I haven't heard anyone complaining about it yet. It's probably like the BS antennagate and Toyota recalls. I know I sound like a fanboy calling "BS" on the antenna problems, but I do so for reasons (also, I dislike Toyota and hate their Prius, but I still call their recalls BS).

Happy iPad owner.

When reading your posts people I guess I should consider myself a lucky person. Have been using Apple since 2007 and never had any problems.

Upgraded to the new iPad from iPad 1st gen and I'm amazed with what they came up with. iPad is absolutely amazing I just love it. No wifi problems for me. Tested the Internet speed on my iPad, iPhone and MBP and pretty much getting the same results.

As to the heat issues not much of a gamer so cannot tell.

Let the retina be with you.

Bless.

I reluctantly returned my new iPad due to Wifi issues also. I am hoping this is an iOS issue as I plan to repurchase one again in a couple of months after the next iOS update.

I'll be checking back to this forum frequently to see if an updated iOS fixes a few of these issues.

I really appreciate all the helpful people and information on this forum.

Run it under condition that causes excessive heat? Are you saying the Ipad cannot be playing games that doesn't even remotely task it, like draw something? That what the heck is it supposed to be doing anyway?

Your Dell was the exception, not the rule. How naive of you to assume every Dell is as bad as yours. My old work Dell D620 laptop doesn't heat up the clear coat on ANY table and even when placed on carpet it doesn't melt down.

Sheesh.

Did you learn basic physics at school? :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage

The new iPad does consume more power, and the outer aluminium case is used as a heat sink. It is only a rise in temperature of 3-4°C, yep people are complaining over nothing.

Why does the announcement say "In the United States,...." ? Because it's something related only to USA models or what ?

Having a problem with your two week old $500+ device? Here 's a used one to replace it.

I don't care that a factory refurb is like new. I buy them whenever I can to save money. But when I buy new, I expect to get new.

Totally agree. WHen I bought my iPhone 4 the camera flash was on all the time so I took it in to the apple store two days after purchasing and I was offered a refurb or he could "open it up and take a look". I was literally fuming. I actually wrote a letter got an apology and a replacement with a new in box iphone. Months old I could understand but these people are you early adopters surely you show them some love?

New products don't get refurb replacements.
