I find it interesting that so many people say iOS is better but won't pay for it. They want Apple to set the price of their flagships to be lower than Samsung's flagships. Why should apple do that when people already said iOS is better.
[doublepost=1542647390][/doublepost]

It’s an assumption from the past that iOS is better. There is almost no difference anymore between iOS and Android. Steve told with the introduction of the iPhone in 2007 that Apple was about 5 years ahead. I believe he was right. First they copied Apple, than they started innovating. I believe they’re on par now where some things iOS does better and some things Android. Where android is far ahead of Apple is Assistentes, maps and services. Combined with an more open approach and cheaper (in this case cheap doesn’t equal bad quality) hardware I can’t find any reason to make iPhones more expensive except greed.

You may think I’m an Apple hater, but in all fairness look at how little has come out those magical pipeline under Cook. Siri was a first and ended in being a joke, Maps is a joke (in the Netherlands) AppleTV is a joke, MacBook Pro with the touchbar disaster is an expensive joke as is the whole state of computer hardware.

You may love the newly introduced Mac Mini but it’s got overheating problems meaning everything higher than the i3 will throttle down to even less power than the i3.

SSD prices are pure greed as are the ram prices of Apple.

Glued together with the boneless iPad Pro 2018, Apple really needs to start thinking different fast and treat their neglected customers even better as their shareholders.

With the XR available I don’t see why people would be complaining about iPhones being too expensive. There is a model available for just about anyone.

Because you're not poor and you see benefits of a new phone?

I can understand this sentiment. However could it be years of record sales came off the backs of people who really shouldn't have bought or couldn't afford one? You see the schemes members here come up with to justify one. Spending their emergency reserves, using the IUP, buying on contracts that although have 0% financing require expensive data plans. Could it be that they have bankrupted themselves on phones and compounded year after year? I can see some of it being iPhone addiction and perhaps a side effect of that? Some people were spending in the ballpark of 10% of their salary on the latest for me and one for my wife.

I know from living in Asia I saw people who make $250 a month with the flagship models. So I am wondering if Apple was counting on people that really can't afford it and they had to tap out.

Well, when the latest iPhone can’t beat LAST YEARS Google Pixel 2 in the camera, this will happen

Welcome to competition Apple
Lmao. The XS is superior to the Pix. 2 and 3. Better dynamic range, better color. Better video. More video recording options. Better quality slow mo. Better sound recording.

Pixel is good at stills, but doesn’t have the dynamic range the iPhone has. It has added sharpening and contrast, which loses detail in darker areas. Pixel wins in selfie camera with the wide lens. And wins with night mode. That would be awesome if Apple could adopt a tech like that.

And nevermind all the software and hardware issues the pixel phones are having, let’s just ignore those though.

I think Apple has found the tipping point, that point where the price is so high most people say "It's not worth it."

Me personally, I will never pay more than $200 for a phone. My used iPhone 6 can do text messages and take photos and make voice calls. What more do I get if I pay another $1,000? The difference between the $200 and $1,000 phone is not so great.

Actually, I've started to look at Chinese phones. They have almost all of Apple's features but new models sell for $150.

Apple's long-term prospects are not looking good. The competition is able to build a phone for 1/4 the price that is very close to iPhones quality.

Maybe Apple will have to go back to making computers

And that was for the 16 gig model back then.
2014 Apple's largest base model top tier iPhone was $749
2018 Apple's largest base model top tier iPhone is $1099.
You need to compare the same line not the highest priced unit of 2014 to the low end new phone of 2018.

Except when you want a smaller device with the new design that does not cost over 1000€. That is just not available from Apple.

It was slashed because they weren’t selling. The market wants bigger and bigger phones.
Correction, the market got used to bigger screens and less bezels for a cheaper price and aren’t willing to pay flagship prices for even an iphone SE.

That’s one of the main reasons why Apple is doing so shameful bad in India. Why buy a device with 6 years old tech and screen when you can have so much better for even less?

The first is extremely expensive for a phone, the second is an expensive dinosaur from the past. No wonder Apple is slashing production orders. People have gotten fed up with Apple's never-ending price increases.
The asking starting price has only gone up $50. The past iPhones such as 7 and 8 models started at $699. You get a bezeless design. A12. Camera upgrades.

People are holding onto older phones longer because they work fine.

LOL really? I hope that's sarcasm.

ha not really. I upgraded from the 6S + which was working fine but I was tempted by the better camera etc and went for the XS MAX. its a great phone but I regret buying it. I wish I'd just stuck with the 6s + to be honest as I don't use all the features.

They’ve already neclected the pro computer market for too long. I don’t believe any pro user will ever take the gamble in investing to an overly expensive new Mac Pro again, no matter how good it will be. Apple hasn’t been loyal or thrust worthy to their pro customers and only long time investment and taking less profits will gain back thrust again. Not apple’s thinking today.

Yes, for today’s standards the screen with big bezels and limited storage surely isn’t competitive anymore.

Well that's it for me I am selling my AAPL and jumping ship for a better company. I am now part of the FB family!

Their greedy push for bigger profit margins was bound to bite them in the ass. I won't be surprised one bit if the new iPad Pro sees sales fall off as well. They can't continue to raise prices with this much competition.

Absolutely agree, I am really wanting the new iPad Pro but it is just priced so high I'm having a very hard time justifying a purchase of the device.

This is what happens when you increase the price without adding any meaningful new features. There's zero incentive to upgrade from the X to the Xs, realistically there's not a huge incentive to move from a 7/8 to a Xs if it means breaking a carrier contract; and if you don't view FaceID as a must-have (I certainly don't).

Yes phones were always going to become less groundbreaking year-over-year, but this increasing of the price without any justification whatsoever was always going to turn people off and away form upgrading every year.

I agree, I upgraded my from iPhone 4 every year up to iPhone X but this year I didn’t find any sense to upgrade to iPhone Xs as generally no anything new worth to pay again such price

I wouldn’t be surprised if this was true.

The iPhone X was a big leap forward last year, at least in terms of design. But at over £1,000 the XS offers little to justify the upgrade except to those who want an (even bigger) handset.

When iPhones were more affordable it was easier to warrant upgrading every year but less-so now.

I’ve upgraded every year since the 3G but this time around I just don’t see enough value in the XS - especially in the UK where 5G will launch before the next iPhone is released. The next iPhone I buy will probably have to have 5G support to have me upgrade.

they made a calculated gamble to raise prices across the board thinking people would go along with it.
they didnt.
end of story.
expect lower price points across the board with the next generation along with claims of "improved manufacturing process" or something to make you think they're doing you a favor by selling it for $50 less.

FAANG stocks officially in correction. I believe Microsoft is too.

Don't come in here with logic. Only AAPL is doomed.

Or perhaps people are wiser now about secret throttling
and the "need" to update every year to a phone that can keep up.
Cheaper to just swap out the battery.
