Who would buy songs on iTunes when you can download them from Napster?

Why a touch screen on an iPhone when Blackberry and Nokia use keyboards?

Who needs a giant touch screen iPod when we have netbooks?

Your comment will be forgotten just like the rest that expressed doubt.

Terrible answer to a legitimate question. Clearly, you don't know what the advantage is of a curved screen, or you would have answered. Many of us are Apple fans, which is great. But Apple cultists who wait for the Word to descend from Cupertino are useless. "Ye who have expressed doubt shall be forgotten as the sands of the desert." LOL.

Because some people want a larger phone, they don't want to carry around a tablet? One of these fits in my pocket, and the other one does not.

I actually do use an iPad mini (w/skype) & as my only phone. I run two companies on it.

It fits perfectly in the back pocket of every pair of slacks I have. And in the inside pocket of my jackets and coats. It's as big as it can be before it's no longer truly mobile. If there is a size race in phones, it'll end up there.

Some of us are former iPhone users and want Apple to introduce an iphone with a larger screen with a smaller dot pitch for full HD, and also want more storage.

Exactly what I meant by Android users wanting to go back to the iPhone but in the form of Android. So much for the comment that some people think Androids are better.

Fine with me, just means the 4-inchers will be cheaper.

On a side note, the new lineup could look like iPhone5CS (plastic phone), iPhone5S (metal phone), iPhoneL (4.8-5incher) made out of who knows what.

And yet it generated over 400 posts on MR. Of course the majority of which aren't questioning the accuracy of the story but arguing over screen size.

Nothing like an article about analysts and phone screen predictions to start a huge argument about screen size. Click bait at its finest ;)

Of course I don't know the advantage. That is my point.

Everyone thought it was ridiculous to have an iTunes Store when everyone was downloading music for free. Who would pay for free music?

Everyone though a giant iPod touch would be useless (iPad).

The point I am trying to make is that if Apple is making a conscious decision to make a curved screen, there is a good reason why. We just don't have the foresight to see it (just like the products I mentioned above).

Just take a look at this thread when news broke that Apple was going to make a music player called the iPod...

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/apples-new-thing-ipod.500/

Great just what the world needs, another freaking MP3 player. Go Steve! Where's the Newton?!

There are already two products similar to this on the market. The Nomad Jukebox and the Archos Jukebox which can come with a 20 gig HD. The iPod is obviously alot cooler and has firewire, but it is far from revolutionary. I for one am disappointed and think that apple is making a mistake by trying to get into this market.

I still can't believe this! All this hype for something so ridiculous! Who cares about an MP3 player? I want something new! I want them to think differently!
Why oh why would they do this?! It's so wrong! It's so stupid!

I'm at the stage in life where my close-up vision is starting to go.

I keep glasses at work, and glasses at home.

The extra half inch in length and width is not much of a big deal for me, the larger screen is a huge improvement for usability.

I had hoped that my iPhone 5 would have helped, but it gave me more text on the screen, not larger text. Increasing the font size helped, but few apps take advantage of that.

A bigger screen size will solve a lot of issues for me:
  • Reading text.
  • I'll actually be able to use my phone one handed more often. As now I'm holding the phone with one hand while pinching to zoom with the other, or switching to landscape.
  • Larger foot print means a larger battery.
  • A slightly larger phone in my pocket takes up less room in my pocket than a phone and a pair of reading glasses.

For those of you where a four inch screen is ideal, great. But in a few years for many of you, it won't be.

I don't want my iPhone 5 to be my last iPhone, but my next phone will have a bigger screen.

So what? Not everyone wants to sacrifice a more versatile screen size just to keep the device easier to use with one hand.
This is the real world and it is not about what you want. It's about reality and what did happen and what will happen. You are looking forward to a future that will never come and looking back to a past that never ended. Those so called iPhone purist are still laughing at too big to hold phones and will continue to do so for how long they continue to exist. Despite being disproved again and again, the bigger screen people remain convinced that somehow one handed usage won't play a role with next years iPhone redesign. They are wrong.

Don't care what Apple does. And deep down, most of you guys don't either because you know quite well were all going to be getting whatever iPhone they put out.

So are you saying the iPhone will not get a bigger screen next year?

I say don't be surprised if the screen size remains the same and don't expect Apple to ignore one-handed usability, fits-in-your-pocket ability, battery life and weight of the device, just in order to make the screen bigger. Screen size is only one minor aspect of making a product that is the best overall compromise of what is possible with current technology.

The first iPad mini was a great example of how to establish a new form factor. In striving for size and weight records, it divided the number of pixels by four and used last years cpu generation. Only now the necessary technology becomes available to avoid those compromises. Thats why the performance step is so huge with the second generation iPad mini.

With the iPhone 5 Apple went for a taller but not wider screen, because it could show a bigger section of a scrolling list of content. Skimming through a long list of songs or contacts is way better with an iPhone 5, while still being thinner and lighter. If there isn't such an obvious benefit of a wider screen, than it won't happen. Why needs the screen to be wider?

So someone has been wrong with rebutting a rumor before, therefor every rumor must be true? This argument is even more convincing than „7-inch tablets generally suck for content“. You know what? He might still be right.

ipad-mini-3.png

Apple made a big deal out of how 7.9-inch in a 3:4 aspect ratio gives you a 35% larger area compared to a typical 16:10 7.0-inch tablet. While you can condense visual information by applying a higher pixel density, you can't shrink your fingers to hit indefinitely smaller touch targets.

Even if no one can say where exactly it is, there definitely is a limit of how small an iPad can become and still be usable with current iPad apps. And even if naming it iPad mini, Apples 8-inch tablet was always set to remain on whatever Apple believes is this side of the border to become too small.

If they make one as big as rumored, no, I won't.

I will hang on to my 5S for as long as it survives, which may be a loooong time: my original 2007 iPhone is still in heavy daily use as our home theater universal remote, cooking timer and alarm clock. With the original battery(!!!)

So the current size is 4"
How big would one be before you won't buy it?

No.... No... No, and No

I had a feeling this would be....

First stage: Apple develops something curved, like an iWatch... They reckon its soo good, they must do it across their entire line.... No No No.... :p

Please, don't do it to the Mac ......... and just like Apple, they'll probably ditch this current line up in favor of curved..... AGHHhhhhhhh.... !!

It's very encouraging to see the explosion of iPhone 6 rumors as a direct result of the increasing threat from the Android camp. Now that the Nexus 5 and Galaxy Note 3 have been released, iPhone rumors are coming out of the woodwork.

It's becoming harder and harder for Apple to live in denial. No matter how good their phone is, as long as it's equipped with a demure little display, there's quite a disadvantage. Now that Apples a few years late, the difference is glaring. Instead of posturing and condemning the competition, it's time for Apple to build a compelling new smartphone.

I think MCDJ said it best...

MCDJ said:
The only "NOT" that can be stated empirically regarding an Apple rumor is that random people on a web forum do NOT have a clue as to what Apple will and won't do. In fact, history indicates that as often as not (or more often), those who emphatically postulate that Apple will not turn a given rumor into reality are eventually proven dead wrong, to the cackling delight of his or her fellow forum members.

The thing he doesn't say is that most of the fun to be had around here is in the speculation. The wishlist of things you want, the excitement over the unforseen things you get, the satisfaction of getting something you want, and the disappointment of not getting something you were looking forward to. We're all fans, and it's neat talking about these things.

...then some dipwad comes in with a know-it-all attitude to do the whole "oh, I think Apple knows better what people want than you do" thing, and how person A is a niche market compared to person B, so they should just shut the hell on up and quit asking because the mass market would never something like that useful. From there, things get dumb. Some people get timed out. Others get banned. Feelings get hurt. Occasionally there's a drunken bar fight. And...yeah...

MACRUMORS! :D

But there's one thing you should all remember. Fruedling wasn't wrong. He said Apple would never release a 7 inch iPad. And you know what? They never did.

...they released a 7.9 inch iPad.
