Apple is in the early stages of developing a new iMac with over a 30-inch display, which would be the largest-ever size for the all-in-one computer, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. In his weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman said this iMac remains "further out," suggesting that it might be at least a year or two away from launching.

"The company is also conducting early work on an iMac with a screen over 30 inches," wrote Gurman. He did not share any additional details at this time.

Excluding refurbished models, the iMac is currently only available in a 24-inch size, as Apple discontinued the Intel-based 27-inch iMac and iMac Pro over the last few years. Despite occasional rumors about the iMac Pro making a comeback, there is still no larger iMac with Apple silicon available. One solution is to purchase a 27-inch Studio Display and connect it to a Mac with Apple silicon, but this is not an all-in-one setup.

Released in April 2021, the 24-inch iMac features a colorful, ultra-thin design and is equipped with the M1 chip. Gurman expects the 24-inch iMac to be updated with the as-yet-unannounced M3 chip by early next year. All current Apple silicon chips are manufactured based on TSMC's 5nm process, while the M3 chip is expected to move to a 3nm process for significant performance and power efficiency improvements.

A larger iMac is one of many products on Apple's product roadmap, according to Gurman. He also expects a second-generation Apple Watch Ultra to launch later this year, suggesting that the high-end watch might be updated on an annual basis like other models.

My best guess: branded PRO, "starting at $3499" with minimal specs and maybe keyboard & mouse sold separately, between $4K and $5K nicely specced (add $600 to get past too little RAM and half-speed SSD).

I foresee no possible way to get back to the sub $2K "starting at" price point of the Intel iMac 27"

I see only ONE path to MAYBE get to a "starting at" of $2999.

I've been chugging along on my 2017 iMac waiting for a newer iMac. The 24 inch screen isn't big enough to serve my needs, and I prefer not having the clutter with a mini+monitor situation. But like the above poster, my patience is getting thinner every time Apple has an event and the iMac receives no upgrade.

I would seriously consider buying a 30" iMac to replace my 27" iMac. I'm not interested in the current iMacs because I don't want a smaller screen. A Studio Display + Mac Studio or Mac Mini setup costs a lot. So I think there is definitely a gap in the Mac lineup that a 30" iMac would fill well.

Wish list for redesigned iMacs:
  • Allow vertical and horizontal adjustment of the screen.
  • Follow the design philosophy of the current MBA and MBP and make functionality and connectivity more important than a thin enclosure.
  • Make Ethernet standard on all configurations.
  • Make the full set of ports standard on all configurations.
  • Don't remove the headphone jack!

Starting price: $3,999 w/ 16gb RAM and 250GB SSD.

"Reasonable" by MacRumors standards.

Do the math. If it is >30“, it will be probably 32“. With retina resolution (and Apple won’t go below that), it will be a 6K display. The only 6K display on the market besides the XDR Pro is the new Dell, which is 3K$ for the display alone. So yes, 4K for the machine you describe would be very reasonable indeed, by anyone‘s standards.

Give us a 5K 29.5" iMac And a 5K 29.5 standalone display please, at 200 ppi.

I know they won't, so I wonder what a 30"+ display's resolution would be. Same 218 ppi yet again?

Here's hoping it doesn't include 8GM of RAM. Well it better not!
I wonder if such a mythical beast would come with only M3 Pro, meaning minimum 16 GB, and possibly no 24 GB option. Only memory upgrade option 32 GB.

while a larger misc would make sense with a "M" chip (vs Intel) - how much does Apple really plan to offer in the desktop space? 24 iMac, mini, Studio, Pro, 27" and 32" displays are plenty choices for a category that has a limited future (remember provision?). not really buying this rumor ...
I loved my 27 iMac but replaced it with Studio/Studio ...

This is just stupid at this point. Most of us will have had to transition to a Mac Studio and display before that happens. I was holding out for an imac but like holding out til this fall…
Agree completely. Am about to replace my 2017 Intel 27-inch 5k iMac in favor of, yep, a Mac Studio M2 Max and Studio Display. Would’ve gladly replaced it with an Apple Silicon version of what I have, had such a thing ever existed.

It’ll ship as the first system with the Extreme processor ;)

Further out just means “don’t ask me about it ever again because I’ll always say it’s ‘further out’ ” My guess, another leaker is going to be getting a pink slip real soon.

Guess the focus is on iMacs once again because Gurman says so. Still yesterday's story.

Yeh, but it’s just a rumor, I think it will be along the lines of iMac 24”, it will be limited to how much Unified memory.
There are too many Macs now, including Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro: tower and rack. Also, sales of ioda Oro will slice off some off the Mac line up.
I have waited too long for an iMac, now I got the Mac studio and Apple Display.
