Apple Reportedly Developing OLED iPad Mini for 2026

This is normal. Every Apple hardware device that we buy was in development for at least 1-2 years. Design, development, testing, suppliers, manufacturing, packaging, support resources... it all takes time to execute.

Apple is not starting the next iPhome in October the month after they announce in September. The next iPhone (two Septembers from now) is already under development today.

The rumor mill is just getting better at tracking these hidden details.
1-2 years of research? Take for example the iPhone 15. What’s so different from the 14, 13, 12 except from camera upgrades (not developed by Apple)??? Same for iPad and Mac. How long did it took them to develop a new Mac Pro? Most brands would go out of business by this pace.

These things are all more complex than the sum of their parts or the visual changes. For example, the 4 lineup radically redesigned the interior to improve reparability. The Mac Pro was again another radical redesign, with a custom power delivery system integrated with a motherboard that needed to be designed from the ground up.

The new Macs are built around custom systems-on-chip, which in it's own right is incredibly complex and needs careful design. Same for iPad. How often are Intel and AMD releasing new architectures?

None of this accounts for the software side of things, either. New iOS and MacOS needs to be ready for launch, too. So yes, they need a good amount of lead time to make all of this work as well as it does.

This oled Mini means I can avoid 11' pro 2018 upgrade until 2026.
It's going to be Smart 11' replacement.

That's a long time to wait for a new mini! I was hoping for later this year or early next year.
The Mini 7 (likely a spec bump and minimal redesign akin to Mini 4 to Mini 5) is probably already in production, if only because they will need to offer it with or without the charging brick before too long. In Apple land this means remove the charger without reducing the price, and the 10th Gen and the Mini 6 still have the brick in the box with no option for those who don’t need it to have it removed. The Mini 7 is rumoured to launch in Q4 2024.

This Mini, if true, will be the Mini 8 and the time lag would be in keeping with a usual cycle length (and for the Mini, 2 years maximum would be an improvement, as the Mini hasn’t been updated annually for almost a decade.)

I wish they would make the iPad mini MagSafe compatible. I would love to put it on a MagSafe stand.
This would be cool, I agree, but there would have to be new stands created just for the new Mini IMO. Wouldn’t the current stands topple over due to the added weight of the iPad?

I have 2 diff stands. One from Belkin and one from Anker and they both have pretty substantial stable bases, so I think they would hold up quite well. The only issue I can see it that you would only be able to charge the mini and not the watch or AirPods along with it in their current stand configuration.

As the MagSafe standard includes the functionality to charge, that would mean a heavier and more fragile glass-back.

I'm not signing up for that.
